How To Unlock Lore Chapters & Endings

How Story Mode Works
A common confusion with new players is wondering why their character is locked after playing Story Mode and completing it once. This is because once you complete a character in Story Mode, it will remain locked until you finish all other characters as well. This is because all of their stories are linked and need to be experienced together.

Just keep playing the other unlocked ones, and eventually you will be able to play them again for "Round 2" of Story Mode, which continues the story after "1st Ending" and similarly with eventually unlocking "Round 3" which takes place after "2nd Ending".
Chronological Order of Story
I recommend you read and play it in the following order:
  • Profile
  • Lore Chapters (Note: All characters have various amounts of chapters)
  • Story Mode (1st)
  • 1st Ending
  • Story Mode (2nd)
  • 2nd Ending
  • Story Mode (3rd)
  • 3rd Ending
Unlocking Lore Chapters
To unlock a “Lore Chapter” complete any of the following “Single player mode” on any AI Level to unlock the next chapter.
(You can do different ones, or even just the same mode if you so want to)
  • Story Mode
  • Arcade
  • One Life
  • Team Duel
  • One Strike

Number of Chapters Per Character
  • Kenji = 6
  • Ayai = 7
  • Tomoe = 7
  • Miyo = 7
  • Yasuke = 9
  • Goemon = 11
  • Hozoin = 12
  • Shenyan = 12
Unlocking Endings
To unlock all 3 “Endings” you need to complete a character’s Story a total of 3 times.
  • 1st Ending = Unlocked by default
  • 2nd Ending = Complete your character’s story a 2nd time
  • 3rd Ending = Complete your character’s story a 3rd time
Tips of Unlocking Chapters
If you want to unlock the chapters as fast as possible, you want to do the following:
  • AI Level 0 + One Life

It's a bit risky playing One Life, as you only got one life but assuming you don't die it's incredibly fast as you only need to take 1 life of the opponent as opposed to 3 for any other mode.

If you struggle and die a lot on this mode and want something easier, then the 2nd fastest would be with One Strike mode. Good luck!

great guide, but I feel like you mixed the modes up a bit in the end. you have 1 life in... well. "One Life":) "One Strike" is best out of 5.

I completed Ayai's Story Mode for the 1st time and found myself unable to start Story Mode with Ayai again.....
changing AI Level doesn't help
