How to change the 'Non-Binary' trait from the game
By InternetFren
This guide is here to educate and inform; if people want to have this option to remove parts of the game, they can feel free to follow the instructions and stopping the creations of threads (leading to distractions and arguments on such a contentious topic, a win win for people who dislike the 'Non-Binary' stuff; and the people who like it who dislike others dislike of it).

I should give a warning that it might make the game look broken and lead to empty fields, and that there probably exists a better method (e.g. a mod) but I cannot find it.

The Solution (as of writing this)
Simply goto:
.../steamapps/common/Shadows of Doubt/Shadows of Doubt_Data/StreamingAssets/Strings/

And change the fields in the .csv files to your liking [particularly descriptors.csv and ui.interface.csv]

If you wish to revert things, then verify your game files through Steam.

I wanted to give credit on who I found the solution from.

Someone figured it out in another thread asking for the same thing. I never tried it and I don't know if it works for the current version of the game.

So... is anyone going to actually answer OP's question or are we just gonna talk in circles?

Edit:
I did the research and figured out how to make it possible. Go into Shadows of Doubt > Shadows of Doubt_Data > Streaming Assets > Strings > English > Citizens. Open up the descriptors.csv and scroll down to non-binary and replace it with your preferred choice. Since outright removing it leaves a blank gender option. I assume you could replace the string with male / female but it might not identify them correctly. You could do what I did and change it to 'unknown'. Additionally you can go into Strings > English > Interface, and then select ui.interface.csv and scroll down to non-binary. Select the entire string and delete it. This removes the non-binary player gender selection entirely.
I'm sure removing they / them / their might also matter from citizen strings; but I can't be certain if its used when you have no idea if the killer is male or female. So I left it untouched in my game. Game works fine with the changes.

I hope that someone with some better understanding of the game assets can work out a better solution for citizens.

I guess I proved it is a game after all and isn't real life.
Additional updates and stuff
If there's a better option or guide on this regarding the customisation, please lemme know in the comments and I'll see if I can update this guide. The current method has a flaw of just changing how the field is rendered rather then removing characters with this trait; so something like a mod would probably be better.

Nice - Weird how many are getting triggered by the desire to remove murican nonsense from the games we like.

Sweet, I changed mine to identify them as 'delusional anti-science cross-dresser' to reflect real life.

"I did the research and figured out how to make it possible. Go into Shadows of Doubt > Shadows of Doubt_Data > Streaming Assets > Strings > English > Citizens." did you actually have to research that? like that wasn't intuitive? you have a mental deficiency girlie

idk if it's funnier that you guys can't simply not play the videogame that offends you, or that not 1 of you can figure out the most basic mod lmao

i added neopronouns and you can't handle a simpler process : P

As someone who identifies as non-binary I also understand the desire by someone who isn't to want to remove the field to clean up their game for confusion reasons or any other, even personal preference. It's a singleplayer game, do what you want with it. I totally understand the confusion of the gender mechanics, I even got confused with it when I was starting out until I realized you could observe someone to tell their gender they identify as (which is sort of odd, but glad you can in SoD). I do feel like that makes more sense for a "sex", but that gets into the whole topic of sex versus gender. My point is: do what you want with your game for what makes you comfortable. Want more genders? Go ahead. Want to remove genders and make it a binary male/female system? Go ahead. It's your copy of your game.
