Restored Fire Color

Deskripsi
HL2's campaign maps were lit for the old fire effect that was really yellow, and the new fire effects don't look right in them. This has bugged me for so long I finally figured out how to fix it.

This is not a retexture, and should be compatible with mods that change the fire textures (in case you want them to be more yellow). Other particle effects mods might override this one, if so move this above them in your list.

This looks just so normal now. I can't even imagine why none have made smth like it ever before. And we've been playing with the default one for years in every mod and most source engine games... Well guess I just overthinking =) but, anyways, I wanted to say thanks to the author!

The old effect is the equivalent of a flat, low-resolution looping gif. The new effects are much better from a technical standpoint (they're particle emitters, with lots of fancy properties to edit). This mod adjusts the new effect to have the same color as the old effect.

It should work fine in EP1 or any other map AFAIK, as long as you set "Classic Effects" to "Disabled" in Advanced Video Options. If Classic Effects are enabled, this mod will do nothing - it only alters the new ones.

Does this need to be used in Episode 1 as well? I think EP1 was made before the fire change.

Do you think you could port this to Black Mesa?

This is exactly what I wanted thanks.

Thanks, I'm having trouble exporting certain textures to .vmt, not sure what's up with that. Otherwise, I would have just changed the color in the textures instead of messing with the .pcf files.

My mistake, I just realized you were talking about the .pcf file instead of the .vmt file. I'll do some looking.

They're in the HL2 texture directory, like any other texture. It goes by the name "fire_cloud2.vmt" and it should be in the effects file. Hope this helps!
