First, what about leviathans?

Leviathans can be in the way to getting a cuddlefish egg. It is best to keep distance and go around them. However if they notice you, get out of transportation [if you have one] grab the egg, and make a break for it.

The eggs are extremely rare.

The Eggs are very rare to find, hence only 5 eggs are in the map.
