In the previous episode, USS Montpelier (688 Flight III) ran out of torpedoes, and was unable to prevent a PLAN commando raid on Subic Bay base in the Philippines. Now that our reload is complete, we were tasked with clearing a PLAN submarine wolfpack that was harassing shipping between Japan and Korea.

PRIORITY MISSION: Anti-sub sweep of Tsushima Strait (between Korea and Japan) of PLAN wolfpack attacking local shipping

03-OCT-2000 East China Sea

By the time we arrived the contact detected by JSDFN patrol has entered East China Sea and mixed with other subsurface contacts. We have no choice but to kill them all. Fortunately, we do have enough torpedoes this time...

We killed a Han-class

Then we killed 2 more Han-class in a storm by luring one with an active sonar ping.

17:08 Another contact

Then we killed a Ming-class and a Song-class.

PRIORITY MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

Navy commendation medal was awarded.

22:59 New Mission Received

NEW PRIORITY MISSION: Intercept PLAN convoy from Ningbo to Hong Kong.

Which will have to be in the next episode.

In the hypothetical Cold Waters (DotMod) Y2000 NATO campaign, Taiwan declared independence, and Great Britain delayed returning Hong Kong to China after massive protests. China threatened retaliation, which crashed the Asian economy. Russia decided to have an arms fire sale to China... and China is buying naval assets (along with Russian "advisors") to take over the South China Sea and its resources, plus attacks on nearby countries. NATO decided to intervene... and the first response was US Navy Submarines... Specifically, USS Montpelier, a Flight III 688-class nuclear attack submarine...
