Broken Decks For Critter Championships
By Pestilence
I haven't seen any deck lists or anything of that nature for this game yet, so I thought I'd throw together a quick guide for some of the more broken decks I've found for the Critter Championships. These 3 decks are extremely powerful to the point that many times you will win on the 1st turn of the match. I personally used the first deck here to finish out my master binder. This was written for VF1.039 of the game, some cards and interactions may change as the game updates.

Obaraboil Burn

Nerfed in Update VF1.1 Obaraboil no longer gives burn to all critters, and instead only applies to 1.

General Strategy

This deck is very simple to play, and completely busted. You simply start each match by swaping your 2 Pombusts back and forth, and then spam energy on your Obaraboil. Most fights will be over by the time you empty your hand, but some tougher critters will survive to round 2.
Decklist

You can use any energy you want here, even the flash burns aren't needed, though they do add extra burn stacks
Character Choice
  • Any

Recommended Stickers

With a rare critter, we only have 13 sticker points to work with, unless you play as Marshall and get his 35 points. These are my suggestions for the 13 points.
  • Use Roller Skate if you are using the Pombust version for the additional critter-move, which gives more burn stacks
  • Card Holder gives us that 1 additional card to put us over the top for most consistent 1st-turn combos
  • Lava Rock is a no brainer. It causes enemy critters to take extra damage each time burn procs, we want as many as possible
  • Volcano is another key sticker and is better than lava rock for us, which is saying something. it's more damage to all enemies whenever burns proc.

Key Cards and Interactions

Obaraboil adds 2 burn for each energy card played on him. Simple as that, he is the key card that lets the deck function. Pombusts each add 1 burn to all enemy critters when they critter-move, meaning if 2 swap places with each other, they will add 2 burn for the 1 move. Add a Roller Skate into the mix to get an additional critter-move, and that's 4 burn stacks on all enemies before a single card is played.

With everything together and the correct stickers, each trigger of burn on the full enemy team will cause 3 + 3 + 9 + 3 + 3 =21 damage to all critters. so 3 burn triggers will wipe most critter teams.

Substitutions

  • Instead of Pombust, you can also run Effluvark. Really any critter can be used, or even no others at all, as long as you have the Obaraboil.
  • If you're running Effluvark or some other secondary critter, you can run paper heart over roller skates.
Call an Ambulance, BUT NOT FOR ME!

General Strategy

Another simple and broken deck. Draw your hand, white flag the 2 enemy critters with the most hp, and the 3rd dies to our Soul sticker.
Decklist

You can use any energy you want here, If you use Finn, and the Rainbow sticker, energy won't be an issue. We run the max copies of WhiteFlag for consistency and we don't need any other cards for damage.
Character Choice
  • Any, but Finn is recommended for the extra energy on T1.

Recommended Stickers

We are only using common critters, so we have the full 18 sticker points to work with, unless you play as Marshall and get his 35 points. These are my suggestions for the 18 points.
  • Rainbow gives us our energy for 1st turn kills without having to rely on energy cards
  • Paper heart reduces enemy hp for more consistent kills, though probably isn't required
  • Card holders are just for consistency. More cards drawn means better chance at hitting 2 white flags in our opening hand.
  • Soul is our main damage source against the surviving enemy critter.

Key Cards and Interactions

We use Fossil as our critter because it is the toughest common critter available. If you happen to not kill on turn 1, it can survive to finish the fight in round 2, and being common lets us use the max 18 sticker points. White flag kills our own critter in order to instantly kill the enemy critter in the opposite lane. Combine this with the Soul card, and the enemies that are still alive take damage upon this death. Stack enough soul stickers, and you'll kill the final enemy with this damage alone. Each white flag use does 12 * 3 = 36 damage to the remaining enemy critters. After 2 white flags, that's 72 damage, which is enough to kill most critters.

Substitutions

  • You can use any common critter that you like, it really doesn't matter.
Goadger PUNCH

General Strategy

While not as strong as the first 2 decks, this one still packs a punch. Stack energy on Goadger and hit big with Overgrowth once or twice to kill everything. Usually a turn 2 kill.
Decklist

Need some earth and nature energy in order to be able to use Overgrowth. Meditate gives us critical.
Character Choice
  • Marshall is required to abuse the stickers

Recommended Stickers

Goadger limits us to 13 sticker points normally, but we are running as Marshal for the 35 points. This lets us abuse stickers.
  • Again we use Card Holder for extra card draw and consistency
  • Ball and Chain lets us get some more energy and cast more Overgrowth in 1 turn. The downside is negligible.
  • Large Sword is more power. More Power. MORE POWER.
  • Short Sign is free damage on nearly ever enemy critter in the championships, and doesn't affect us at all.

Key Cards and Interactions

  • The combination of Alertle and Protestudo protect our Goadger for when we don't kill on turn 1 and need to absorb a hit or 2. Other than that, there's not much to say.

Substitutions

  • This is a pretty tight list, but the non-Goadger critters could be played around with I'm sure.
Conclusion
There you have it, 3 extremely strong decks to clear Critter Championships easily. I tried to give variety and not focus on 1 character or card too often. Hopefully you find them fun!
