Introduction
In this guide you'll find my informed propositions for your own tower layout. It is more targeted for mid to late game as you won't be quite able to implement these layouts right from the start.

Only the 3 first floors really needs to be where they are, others are mere indications.

With that in mind, enjoy !

POV of you becoming an Informed Casual Enjoyer reading this.
Floors Rundown
-1st to 3rd floors- [Typesetting, Assembly & Printers]

Floors rundown:
  • 1st Floor : Your 4 primary typesetters, and your 2 security guards (you won't be needing more). This floor is first meant for treating text reports from returning reporters. On both ends, there's a simple toilet for accommodation and the elevator shaft.

  • 2nd Floor : All of your assemblers, placed around page modules for the nice +2 bonus. You can easily mitigate noise and heat with soundproof wallpaper, large fans and air vents. There is also a toilet for accomodation.

  • 3rd Floor : The input and output of your printer and the rest of your printing modules. Only accessible by a stairway leading to the 4th floor.

Upsides
Downsides
The assemblers bonuses are maxed out.
No food item on the 2nd floor.
The typesetters bonuses are maxed out and there is space for 2 security guards.
No direct stairway access between 1st and 2nd floors to prevent dependence on the only elevator shaft.

-4th & 5th floors- [Power Generators & Utility]

Floors rundown:
  • 4th Floor : Your 2 coal power generators and your 2 repair guys. The stairway leads both to the 3rd and 5th floors (where they will find accomodations.

  • 5th Floor : Your 2 supplier guys, storage, your sweeper and your cleaner (you only really need one of each). There are accomodations for food and toilet.

Upsides
Downsides
All of your utility guys and 2 coal generator on only 2 floors
No direct accomodations for the repair guys (they deal with it)

-6th to 8th floors- [Graphic production chains]

Floors rundown:
  • 6th Floor : Your 2 illustrators, a processor and an engraver. There are no toilet accomodation.

  • 7th Floor : Your 2 cartographers, a processor and an engraver. There are no toilet accomodation.

  • 8th Floor : Your photographer (in my experimentations, you really only need one as photograph tags are more rare), a darkroom, a processor and an engraver. There are no accomodations for food nor toilet.

Upsides
Downsides
All of the production chains bonuses are maxed out and neatly lined for time optimization.
The 3 toilet accomodations and 1 food accomodation are victims of the min/maxing for time and bonuses.

-9th floor- [Ads production chain]

Your 4 salesmen and 2 typesetters (we want quantity of quality ads for a quality quantity of money). There are food and toilet accomodations.

Upsides
Downsides
Independent production chain capable of producing all the ads you could wish for.
No downsides, just pure profit.

-10th & 11th floors- [Reporters]

Floors rundown:
  • 10th Floor : Your first 6 reporters, 2 for each category (crime, economy and politics). With food and toilet accomodations.

  • 11th Floor : Your other 6 reporters, 2 for each other category (sports, entertainment and society). With food and toilet accomodations.

Upsides
Downsides
2 specialized reporters with maxed bonuses for each category, and if you spread their 2 other categories wisely you can have up to 6 reporters available for each category (able to handle any urgent news).
No downsides, just pure news coverage.

-12th & 13th floors- [Editors, Law & Telegraphers]

Floors rundown:
  • 12th Floor : Your 3 editors (2 text and 1 graphic, which are quite useless if you accomodates well your employees) and your 2 lawyers (wich is sufficient for most of the game). There are food and toilet accomodations.

  • 13th Floor : Finally, your 6 telegraphers (max) with food and toilet accomodations.

Upsides
Downsides
Bonuses maxed out for the max number of telegraphers.
Poor placement for the editors.

Overall Ups & Downs
Ups:
  • Maxed out bonuses for assemblers with the use of printer modules (which I couldn't find in other guides).
  • You basically have everything you need maxed out (or very close).
  • You will make a sh(i)tload of money pumping out ads.
  • Most of the productions chains are kept on the same floors and are thus optimized (only assembling and editing requires switching floors)
Downs:
  • Some floors don't have the necessary accomodations.
  • There is only one stairway use for maintenance purposes for generators and printers. Min/maxing makes space unavailable for placing stairways anywhere else, thus creating somewhat of a bottleneck for the elevator.

For now you've reached the end of this guide. Congrats !

Tried this layout and it completely broke my newspaper.

Also, as a random aside, I feel like this guide should probably be updated or newer mechanics looked into. For instance, pneumatic tubes can transport production items between floors faster than staff can walk between them, which can mitigate the bottleneck of the elevator in regards to moving between the 6-9th floors to the 2nd floor by virtue of consolidating the engravers into a single floor and putting a pneumatic tube down to the 2nd floor.
Depending on how you set it up, you could also simply turn the bathroom on the 2nd floor into a "delivery" room with tubes coming from the typesetter, engraver, and advertisement floors, though that again shifts issues onto the elevator when staff need to use it to get somewhere else for their needs.

I think it might be worth putting a disclaimer that the third floor setup is impossible to get "naturally" from what I can tell. Basically what I mean is that if you try to build this as you play, you'll end up being unable to build the setup as shown due to the door being "off center" from the first floor and, as a result, not being valid to link up to a staircase leading directly from it to the second floor. In the interim (until you can get an elevator and connect from above) the second floor will need a pair of doors leading to two separate stairwells.

@SoupeurFurieux will you update this please?

Oh wow, I had totally missed that page modules give a +2 Assembly bonus! I used to segregate my printer to one floor as much as possible, but now I'm definitely going to experiment with putting them around my assembly tables. Thanks for that info!

made some tests: now I can say that having two cartographers and two illustrators is to much. Cartographer is useless. But I'm using two Photographers (gold tag you know ;)
And two lawyers is too much, same thing with editors (idk, but worked for me)
anyway you did a great job on planning all that, I just reworked it for my needs

Its not necessary to place dark room technician next to photographer, because he is a reporter, so he goes out to take pictures and when he gets back he goes straight to the dark room. Ill try to reconfigure your plan. btw thanks for smallest toilet room. sinks suck. :KScared:

Themuffinpal 18 Oct, 2024 @ 6:49pm
how did you get that sound resistant wallpaper? seems really useful.

Nice layout but I think you should edit out the extras you don't need and add another elevator and or stairs.
