how to actually use your old Gaijin account on steam! Because... Gaijin kinda... sucks...

Finally after trial and error,
I have used my old Gaijin account in order to log in, now that I own the game on steam.
This way I had all my previous progress but able to play the game through steam!

And so I decided to make this guide considering it was ridiculously convoluted to do... And since I didn't see any other guides on it...

So if you used to have War Thunder through Gaijin, uninstalled it, and then decided to play it on steam, then this is the guide for you.

First what you wanna do is open War Thunder on steam.
Then open your Player card,








and click Change Nickname,









this should open a Gaijin website link.
From here click on Settings,











you'll have to click Delete account,
Which sounds like a bad idea but you're just deleting the account it automatically made.
Not your actual account.











you can now close this tab. And War Thunder should be on the login screen.
Now just log in with your old Gaijin account and you're set to go!

congratulations you did it!
You beat gaijin at their own game of having horrible tech support!

For anyone else wondering, if you DID delete your account you can go back to the confirmation email and it should ask if you want to cancel deletion.

If you do this in 2025 it just blocks you from playing lol. I appreciate the guide anyway, would've been nice to use my old gaijin on this account.
