First things first, you need to download a controller profile before you launch the in order to configure the analog axis in game. I have made a custom configuration based off of the Xbox 360 controls, you should download those first.


1. Go to F.E.A.R. on the Steam Deck. Next to the "manage (gears)" icon, there's a controller icon. Select this.

2. Under the current button layout, there's a prompt that reads "Browse Community Layouts for games without official controller support". Select this prompt.

3. Go to "search". Here you can look for either the ID or the name of the layout. You can also simply download it from the link I will provide below.

1. Open the game, go to "options", then "controls", then "Joystick/gamepad".

2. Tap Rx Axis until it says "Turn left/right", and Ry Axis says "Look up/down".

3. Tap X Axis until it says "Strafe left/right", and Y Axis says "Move ahead/back".

The analog axis are now configured


To have full control functionality on the Deck, you must change 2 keys in game. You can open the keyboard on Steam Deck with "STEAM+X"

1. Go to "options", then "controls", then "configure controls".

2. In "Interaction", change "SlowMo" to "K"

3. In "Inventory", change "Next grenade" to "J"

You should have full control functionality now. Please make sure you DID NOT tap any other key binds while doing this, or the process could be disrupted. You will need to restore the default bindings in game if so.

Hopefully, your game is still opened.

1. Open "options", then "performance". Change "Computer" and "Graphics Card" to Maximum.

2. Return to "options", then "Display". Tap "Resolution" until it changes to "1280x800x32", and enable "V Sync".
