KH2 Randomizer Basic Installation
KH2 Rando is a fan favorite and now with the Steam Release, the team in charge of the project has been hard at work making a version that can run on the new patch.

I'm going to explain the components to the Rando here but I'll skip the the install instructions as they are properly handled in this guide already:

https://tommadness.github.io/KH2Randomizer/setup/Panacea-ModLoader/

Rando Components:

OpenKH
Like most mod managers, it can keep track of any number of mods and Save/Load Profiles to help manage them. Most mods can be used through it and in the next section I'll briefly go over where to find more mods. For randomizer, the only truly required mod is [KH2FM-Mods-Num/GoA-ROM-Edition] but the above guide has other QoL recommendations.

Seed Generator
Can be used to customize runs (Seeds) such that you can tailor the experience of playing a Rando to a very precise Degree. If you want to get into playing quickly, you can also load daily seeds.

KH2 Rando Tracker (optional)
This is a separate program that can both track progress on the Seed and use the Hint system you chose when creating the Seed to point you towards progress instead of having to clear the whole game blindly.
Other Mods and Using OpenKH

OpenKH has an add Mod button on the right side of the menu which you can use to either manually add a local mod (necessary for Seeds) or auto download and update mods from Github.

Most KH2 mods nowadays are published on Github as to be used with OpenKH.

When running playing Randomizer, you must place the GoA mod at the bottom and the Seed at the top unless a mod specifies it needs to be above for priority.

To run the Modded game you click on [Mod Loader] at the top of the menu and then choose:
  • Build and Run to combine the game with the mods.
  • Run Only if the mods were built already.
  • Build Only if you want to simply test if it will combine at all.
  • Fast Restore if you want to revert to unmodded (vanilla) KH2.

If you want to find more mods, the place where they are published is generally in the KH2 Randomizer Discord. There there are channels that specify the kinds of mods within them, Most of the mods that are not in the Lua section work on the new versions without needing changes. The Lua mods will generally only work if they are from the current patch.

The link to the discord is under this paragraph and is also present within the Randomizer Setup Guide. Feel free to ask for help, report bugs or just hang out there.

Achievements
Achievement tracking still works while playing modded. Aesthetic changes shouldn't stop things from registering, but gameplay mods, randomizer or similar might bug out the tracker.

@Rizzy I've gotten achievements while moded, just not story related ones while on rando. Game clear worked correctly for example but none of the bosses since I was doing enemy rando

Also important to mention that OpenKH requires the game(s) to be extracted in order for certain mods to work, such as KH2 rando. This means that you need at least 40gb left over to play KH2 Randomizer, and maybe more if you're planning on using OpenKH with the other games. Just a heads up in case anyone's running low on storage.
