This is a quick video showing the full process to downpatch, as well as proof of the v3.0 ending path to Kkotnim Sweetheart working properly. I show my local time and date multiple times so people know this isn't old footage, and is a currently working method.
Step 1
Make a back up of your v4.0 save files. When you downpatch to v3.0, it won't use those saves. It doesn't delete your 4.0 files (I didn't even need to copy my save back when I went back to 4.0), but I don't want anyone crying in here that they lost all their progress because I didn't mention this. To find your save file, go to:

%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\WD\Saved\SaveGames

Copy the entire "SaveGames" folder to your Desktop or somewhere safe.

Update: When you launch 3.0, it will make a new folder in your SaveGames folder labelled "0". All 3.0 saves get stored there. Your 4.0 saves are left completely unchanged, but you can still back them up if you'd rather be safe.
Step 2
Now we need to set up the Steam Console. Type "run" into your computer's search bar and open the Run app. Type in the following:

steam://open/console

This will open a new tab on steam that reads "Console". We need to tab over to that for the next step.
Step 3
In the Steam Console, type in the following command:

download_depot 2078040 2078041 5708602338614336302 : download a single depot

This will tell Steam to download v3.0 of White Day 2 to your computer. This will take some time, so just let it do it's thing. You'll know it's done when it spits out a location that it downloaded the files to. It will look something like this:

Depot download complete : "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\content\app_2078040\depot_2078041"

Copy the file location into your file explorer to open up the folder with the downpatched files.
Step 4
Right click White Day 2 in your Steam library > Manage > Browse local files. This will open up the current install location for WD2. Delete everything in that folder, then drag all of the files from the downpatch folder into there.
Step 5
Congrats. Your game is downpatched. Now all you need to do is:
  • Finish Story 1 with any ending.
  • Finish Story 2 with any ending.
  • Immediately replay Story 1 and finish with the Confession ending. This is required to set up Kkotnim Sweetheart.
  • Immediately replay Story 2 and do the steps for Kkotnim Sweetheart.
If you need help, this is a simple ending guide that should help you find what you need.

What if I want to go back to 4.0?
Easy. Right click WD2 in your library > Manage > Browse local files. Delete everything in that folder.
Right click the game again > Properties > Installed files > Verify integrity of game files. Once it finishes downloading, you're back on 4.0

All you need to do is go back into the save location, delete (or back up) the 3.0 saves and drag your 4.0 folder back in. As i mentioned earlier, when I went back to 4.0, all of my saves were still intact, so this is more a precaution.
Random Achievement Disclaimer
When I was doing my Kkotnim Sweetheart run, I unlocked "Revenge Incarnate" after escaping from the ghost girl in the hallway that connects MB and NB. If you're unfamiliar, Revenge Incarnate is a Story 3 ending achievement. v3.0 had issues with randomly awarding achievements at the wrong time. If you don't want this to happen, save Kkotnim Sweetheart for last.

I answered this below, but the game installs on v4.0. The devs forgot to change the version number in game.

If I remember correctly, v3.0 creates a new folder where the save is stored. I think I have it listed in this guide somewhere. Switching between versions should just use their dedicated save locations.

As for the update, I'm not 100% sure. I have auto-updates turned off, but you might not even need to do that if you're manually downpatching.

Not to be even more annoying, but I still have a question:

If I do the downpatch, how do I prevent Steam from updating the game to 4.0? Do I just have to disable updates?

And another thing: you told me that if I do all the endings in version 3.0 I would have the complete gallery of endings. So far, so good. But how do I go back to 4.0 while keeping that? Do I just have to update? Because otherwise I would have to stay on version 3.0 forever.

My saves from version 4.0 don't make any difference, because they only have the endings. I haven't done the ghost list or anything extra yet, exactly because I haven't been able to complete the endings. My intention is: downgrade to 3.0, do all the endings, go back to 4.0 without losing that and complete the other lists, that is, 100% of the game.

Thank you for your tutorial.

I believe I recall seeing that the v4.0 still says v3.xx on the menu for whatever reason. You reminded me of that, and I should probably add that in here.

I already have v3.0 for some reason? Without patching, but I still can't get the ending. I got the candle, chrysanthemum, bear..everything, but it still doesn't trigger the cutscene

I have a full video at the top of the guide! It goes over the steps to not only downpatch, but also a quick walkthrough of the steps I took to get the ending.

Dear friend, thank you very much for the quick response. Yes, it made perfect sense and I expected it to be exactly what you said. It's just a shame that you have to resort to a downpatch, to make an ending, when you could just release a small update, correcting the trigger for the final cutscene. But anyway, let's wait.
Your tutorial is perfect and I completely understood it. I'm just afraid of doing something wrong and losing, especially the version 4.0 save, or it causing a bug when the version comes back.
Would you be able to post screenshots of the tutorial steps, or even record a short video with the steps? I think it would be even more perfect and would make it much easier to see what you have to do. But it's not a criticism, on the contrary. Just a suggestion, really. It was very well explained.
A hug from Brazil.

Glad I could help, dude!

Everything but Kkotnim Sweetheart will still be on your old (4.0) save when you go back, since you're doing that specific ending on a fresh (3.0) save. The only way to have your ending gallery completed is to either do every ending on the downpatch version, or wait for a potential update. Hope that makes sense.

Man, you're a hero. I'll use that guide, for my platinum completion.

If I downpatch the game and return after the achievement, every final that I make, will be there too?
