Introduction
This guide provides tutorial and helpful tips for each Free Ride Extreme quest.

Quests are sorted by difficulty starting with the easiest one. This is not a speed running tutorial. Tips in this guide aren’t describing the fastest way to complete each quest. Rather the easiest way is described, even if it takes longer.

Free Ride Extreme features 19 quests, 2 of which are FPS dependent. FPS dependent quests aren’t necessarily more difficult than regular quests, but I still placed them as last because you need to set up an FPS limiter to finish them (see quest 18 and 19 for more details).

Location of each quest is marked on the map here:

1. Carry the box
This is the easiest quest in the entire game and if you struggle with it, Mafia honestly isn’t for you. You can drive around the block, you don’t have to run. Saves a bit of time.
2. Speedy Gonzales
There are two easy ways how to kill this guy without using any bullets.

You can block his way with a car. He won’t be able to run away, and you can simply beat him to death. Picture below shows how to block his way. You obviously must set up the blockade before you start the quest.

Or you can drive to a location marked on the map, then drive fast on the sidewalk in the direction shown in the picture. Speedy will be waiting for a bit at the other end of that sidewalk (unless you follow him, then he will just continue running). You can get ahead of him and kill him with your car.

3. UFO Chase
Route is marked on the map below (orange = back alleys), but you honestly don’t need it. This quest is easy because there’s so much time to finish it. You won’t have any troubles.

4. Gangster Killing
There are 6 gangsters on the balconies with Thompsons (see pictures below) and 3 on foot with shotguns. Kill them, that’s it.

You can use barrel by the entrance to jump on the roof of the car. Using a makeshift platform out of cars you can reach and pickup additional Thompsons after you kill all gangsters. However, there’s honestly not much use for them in Free Ride Extreme.

5. Snipers
Pictures show location of each sniper, there are three in total.

Don’t forget that scope key unbinds itself every time you close the game, so make sure to rebind it.

Sometimes snipers drop their guns to the sidewalk, pick them up for extra ammo. Sniper rifle can be useful in some quests, such as Sea Monster or Gangster Killing.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You might be wondering why I have marked this quest and the previous one as one of the easiest quests. The answer the lack of driving. Even if you fail, your next attempt won’t take you long. With the other quests, failing means having to repeat a long drive.
6. Invisible Man
Not so invisible but still hard to see. I’ll write down what exactly he does during his escape so you can prepare better. The route he takes is marked on the map.

1. Start by Morelo’s bar.
2. Runs through the back alley and does a little loop on the little courtyard at the end of it.
3. Proceeds to run down the road, take a right turn, runs to one of the doors, stands there for a second.
4. Turns around and run back, across the street.
5. Crouches for a bit before continuing to the phone booth at the end of the street.
6. Enters the booth and stands in it for a while.
7. Runs diagonally across the street and once again stands there by the wall for a bit.
8. Runs down the street towards train station. There’s a small yard under the train tracks, he will stand there by the wall.

Now comes the tricky part.
9. Runs to the train station in the direction to Central Island, it’s the one on the other side of the street.
10. Stands there for a bit before leaving the train station. You do not have to follow him, he will return. Stay there, watch out for him, and get on the same train as he does. Exit the train at the next station, Guliano Street.
11. Leaves the train station and runs through back alleys under Guliano Bridge
12. Crouches and crawls behind decorative grass island then sprint again towards the river.
13. Takes a left turn and runs to the doors opposite of the bonus car. Go to that door and he will disappear, the quest is finished.

7. Flame Spear
Make sure to drive close enough to smokes, otherwise the next one won’t trigger, and you will likely need to restart. Route on the image below.

8. Airplane Chase
This one is really simple. Just follow the route marked on the map below. Make sure not to outrun the plane.

9. Vision Distortion
Rather break sooner than later. Good tip is to drive on tram tracks – there will be no cars in your way and trams can be easily spotted on the radar. Route on the image below.

10. Gass Guzzling Trauntenberg
Premise of this quest is simple – drive this car to location, car has extremely high fuel consumption. Selecting the best route, refueling, and saving fuel is the key here.

Driving correctly is of key importance. Get the car up to speed, put it to neutral and let it glide for a bit. Do this for the entirety of this quest.

Remember that to refuel, your car must be facing the gas station employee.

You must drive the entire way. Getting out of the Trauntenberg and pushing it with another car won’t work. As soon as you leave the car, game will fail you.

If you see red blinking light it means that the fuel level is critically low. In this case DON’T put the car to gear, keep it in neutral. If you are in gear when you run out of fuel, you will lose all momentum.

Now let’s go over the route. Orange marks back alleys as usual. First part is relatively straightforward. Get from the start to nearest fuel station in Oakwood to refuel. From there drive towards Rainbow Garden restaurant. From there straight down to Central Island. This part is downhill so you should be able to glide the entire way. Next drive to fuel station on Central Island and refuel.

Here comes important decision. You can either refuel in Little Italy or skip the last fuel station. Skipping is faster, but riskier.

If you want to play it safe just follow the route on the map and take the blue detour to fuel station in Little Italy. If you glide whenever possible, you should make it no problem.

If on the other hand you want to risk it, here’s how to make it without third refueling. Beginning at the fuel station on Central Island save as much fuel as possible. Once you come to the bridge leading to the Little Italy, get your car up to speed. At least 100 km/h (70 mph). Once you’re at the bridge, put your car to neutral and leave it there until you reach the end of the first orange part on the map. From there drive normally saving fuel and gliding when possible and you should make it just fine.

There’s also a third route which skips the fuel station in Oakwood as well. It’s used by speed runners, but I deemed it too difficult for regular playthrough. You can look it up on speedrun.com if you are interested.

11. Phone Booths
Booths are marked on the map.

Don’t break them, you will mission fail. REGARDLESS of the quest! As long as you are in one, if one of these booths is broken, you will mission fail. So, watch out for that.

First is right next to the beginning of the quest.

Second, in China Town. Close to square in back alley.
]

Third above tunnel entrance on Central Island.

Fourth on the Centra Island pier. It’s hidden on terrace in the very back of the pier.

Fifth in the park in front of the hospital in New Ark.

Last one next to church in Oakwood. This one is very, very small.

Bonus car is parked by nearby tennis courts (in front of the house where Frank was held by the police).

12. Bomb Defusal
Get a fast car, the time limit on this one is tight. Other than that, it’s just driving. Location of each bomb is marked on the map below.

13. Nitroglycerin Truck
Drive fast and don’t hit things. That’s the gist of it. The truck can survive more hits than the game makes you believe but don’t push your luck, better safe than sorry. Optimal route on a map below. You will have to drive through some back alleys, those are marked with orange.

14. Race Car Exchange
One of the most difficult quests in Free Ride Extreme because it is easy to screw up parking the race cars on to the trucks. Take your time doing it, don’t rush it, failing is not worth it. You don’t need to back up to the ramps.

Map below shows the optimal route. Black is from start to first truck. Blue from first to second truck. From there you will take almost the same route all the way back to the start, first on blue route, then on green, then on black.

Driving the quickest route will give you enough time to exchange the race cars, which is the part where you will most likely fail.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This quest plays a special role in unlocking all cars for regular Free Ride. Details in my other guide.
15. Taxi Bomb
There are 5 taxis and 3 locations where you will be dropping them to water. Taxis are marked with yellow cross and drop locations with blue cross.

Here’s how you drop taxi into water. Park it facing downhill. Turn off the engine, put the car to neutral. Now let go of the handbrake and at the same time exit the car. If you do it correctly, the car should start moving downhill on its own.

First taxi is right at the beginning of the quest and it’s also the place where you will drop it into water.

Second taxi is in the construction zone in Hoboken, and you will drop it on Central Island.

Third taxi right next to second drop location so drop it there as well.

Fourth taxi is by the government building on Central Island. Drive it to third drop location in Little Italy and drop it there. You will most likely need to push this one with another car.

Last taxi is by the docks but there are two, not just one. You must take the one closer to the main road. Push it into water in the same location as the fourth one.

16. Speed Explosive Truck
Set the speedometer to MPH for this one!

There are two possible routes. Long and easy (blue) or short and difficult (green).

The first one follows the main, broad roads which means there’s plenty of space to take wide turns to keep the speed up.

The second one requires you to drive on the brink of an explosion, but it is much shorter and thus faster. Driving with manual shifting on second gear will make it easier to make it past the tight turns.

17. Sea Monster
This one can be tricky. You need to get to the beach behind Rainbow Garden restaurant and free the trapped woman. In order to do that, you need to shoot the lock that’s keeping her from escaping.

However, there’s the stupid censored banner obstructing the view. It is not there in game version 1.0 so downgrading to this version might help you. But I don’t think it’s necessary, it can be done on latest version as well.

First of all, you need to get to the beach. Optimal route marked on the map.

Once you are there you have two options.

First, go to the spot on the image below. From there you should see the lock clearly, and you should be able to hit it with just about any gun.

Second, if you have ammo in sniper rifle left, use that. The scope will definitely help you here and you don't even need to go down to the beach.

Setting up for FPS dependent quests
Last two quests are FPS dependent. This means they are impossible to finish with regular 60 FPS. To combat this, we need to use 3rd party FPS limiter. Best option is Riva Tuner Statistics Server (RTSS).
Download RTSS from official website[www.guru3d.com]. Alternatively, you can use Winget. Open PowerShell, type “winget install Guru3D.RTSS” and RTSS should download and install automatically.

Screenshots below show how to set up RTSS for the purpose of finishing Free Ride Extreme.
1. Set the frame limiter to 12
2. Enable “Show own statistics” to confirm frame limiter is working

You can also set up keyboard shortcuts to enable and disable frame limiter. I would recommend you do that, as it makes the whole FPS ordeal way less annoying.
Go to Setup > Plugins > HotkeyHandler.dll > Setup. Set the shortcut to whatever you want. Make sure HotkeyHandler is actually enabled, the check mark bust have black outline as shown on the screenshot.

18. Bridge Bombing
Drive with speed limiter on. It’s easier that way because the game drops your speed if you drive too fast. Enable FPS limiter once you start approaching the ramp and drive on the right side of the bridge.

There is another way to do this quest. You can push the Bolt to the other side of the bridge before starting the quest. Lassiter V16 Fordor is a good car for this. Then go back, start the quest, cross the bridge with a faster car, and just deliver the Bolt. It’s extremely tedious and slow approach, but this way it can be done without frame limiter.
19. Exploding Celeste
There is no work around for this one. You need to drive with 12 FPS. And you need to drive fast, otherwise the car’s going to explode. Route on the map as usual.
