Slavic Mercenaries / Славянскiе Hаемники

Initially, I wanted to create, as far as possible, historically accurate Slavic layouts. However, I encountered an insufficient number of customization elements presented in the game for this purpose, which are necessary for creating diverse and interesting builds corresponding to the chosen theme. Then I went down a different path. There are a number of standard mercenaries in the game (knight, marauder, etc.). These builds are NOT historically accurate representations. The developers set themselves the goal of creating relatively unique game classes within the essentially classless game.

I intended to release a rethinking of these standard builds in the Slavic style. In these analogues, according to my idea, should be combined: an easily recognizable game build taken as a basis and, in combination with it, an appearance corresponding to the Slavic spirit. Thus, this work is a "reskin" with the goal of creating a certain memorable aesthetic image, which will be easily understood as Slavic.

Изначально я хотѣлъ создать, на сколько это возможно, исторически ​достовѣрныя​ ​славянскія​ выкладки. Однако же я столкнулся съ недостаточнымъ для оной цѣли количествомъ представленныхъ въ игрѣ элементовъ ​кастомизаціи​ потребныхъ для созданія разнообразныхъ и нескучныхъ ​билдовъ​ соотвѣтствующихъ избранной тематикѣ. Тогда я пошелъ по иному пути. Въ игрѣ существуетъ рядъ стандартныхъ наемниковъ (рыцарь, мародеръ и т.д.). ​Эти​ ​билды​ НЕ являются исторически достовѣрными ​репрезентаціями​. Разработчики задавались цѣлью создать относительно ​уникальные​ ​игровые​ классы въ предѣлахъ, по сути, безклассовой игры.

Я же вознамѣрился выпустить переосмысленіе этихъ стандартныхъ ​билдовъ​ на славянскій ладъ. Въ этихъ аналогахъ, по моей задумкѣ, должны ​сочетаться​: легко угадываемый взятый за основу игровой ​билдъ​ и, въ совокупности съ нимъ, внѣшній видъ соотвѣтствующій славянскому духу. Такимъ образомъ сія работа ​есть​ "​рескинъ​" съ цѣлью создать нѣкій запоминающійся эстетическій образъ, который при этомъ будетъ легко считываемымъ какъ славянскій.


A few Words about the Difficulties that Arose, Armor and Slavic Aesthetics
The game provides a very rich toolkit for creating a detailed costume for your character and, due to its own specifics, largely prompted by requests from users, focuses on the era of the High and Late Middle Ages. Most of the weapons and protective equipment presented in the game belong to these categories. As for the Early Middle Ages and the Renaissance, in this field we have a very modest number of items, the presence of which, as a rule, is due to the desire of the developers to present two very specific images of warriors of the past: Vikings and Landsknechts.

In reality, the appearance of a Slavic warrior, as he seems to most sophisticated readers, is essentially a warrior of the Early Middle Ages, differing from others only in the fact that in detail he is replete with ethnic elements unusual to mass culture. As for the armor, most of the heavy helmets and plate cuirasses simply do not fit with this image, unless, of course, we are talking about the Western and Southern Slavs. However, in my vision, I rely on the Eastern Slavs.

I have specially equipped my loadouts with an artistic portrait, which is prompted by the desire to simplify the perception for the reader.



О возникшихъ затрудненіяхъ, доспѣхахъ и славянской эстетикѣ
Игра даетъ весьма обильный инструментарій для созданія детально проработаннаго костюма вашего персонажа и въ силу собственной специфики, подсказанной, во многомъ, запросомъ со стороны пользователей, фокусируется на эпохѣ Высокаго и Поздняго средневѣковья. Именно къ этимъ категоріямъ относится большая часть представленныхъ въ игрѣ оружія и защитнаго снаряженія. Что же касается Ранняго средневѣковья и Ренессанса, то на симъ ​полѣ​ мы имѣемъ весьма скромное количество предметовъ, наличіе которыхъ, какъ правило и вовсе, обусловлено желаніемъ разработчиковъ представить въ собственно игрѣ два весьма конкретныхъ образа воиновъ прошлаго: Викинговъ и Ландскнехтовъ.

Въ дѣйствительности, обликъ славянскаго воителя, такого, какимъ онъ представляется большинству искушенныхъ читателей ​есть​ суть воинъ ранняго средневѣковья, отличный отъ прочихъ лишь ​тѣмъ​, что въ деталяхъ изобилуетъ онъ специфическими для массовой культуры этническими элементами. Что до брони, то большая часть тяжелыхъ шлемовъ и ​латныхъ​ кирасъ попросту съ даннымъ образомъ не вяжется, если, конечно, мы не говоримъ о Западныхъ и Южныхъ Славянахъ. Однако же я опираюсь, въ своемъ видѣніи, именно на Славянъ Восточныхъ.

Мои выкладки я спеціально оснастилъ художественнымъ портретомъ, что подсказано стремленіемъ упростить воспріятіе для читателя.

In this layout, as in the subsequent ones presented, I strive to preserve the original gameplay balance and, in favor of this desire, I do not change the type of armor, greaves, and weapons. I decided to change the helmet in order not to repeat myself (the game has only one "Slavic" heavy helm and I intended to use it in the second layout). In addition, the mentioned casque completely covers the face, creating a more impersonal image, which is more suitable, in my opinion, for the second layout. Finally, the heavy helmet, which requires the greatest number of points, seems useless to me personally and therefore I consider such a deviation acceptable.

Въ ​сей​ выкладкѣ, какъ и въ послѣдующихъ представленныхъ, я стремлюсь сохранить первозданный геймплейный балансъ и въ угоду этому стремленію не мѣняю типъ ​доспѣха​, ​поножей​, и оружія, такъ же, не измѣняю. Шлемъ же я опредѣлилъ смѣнить дабы не повторяться (игра располагаетъ лишь однимъ ​"славяскимъ​" тяжеломъ шлемомъ и его я возымѣлъ намѣреніе примѣнить во второй выкладкѣ). Кромѣ того, упомянутый шлемъ полностью покрываетъ лицо создавая обезличенный образъ, что болѣе подойдетъ, на мой взглядъ, именно второй выкладкѣ. Наконецъ, тяжелый шлемъ требующій наибольшаго количества очковъ лично мнѣ представляется безполезнымъ и по сему подобное отхожденіе я почитаю за допустимое.

And although he had reached great heights in his bloody craft, Dobrobud was considerably tired from martial work.

He stood amidst the raging battle like an indestructible rock amidst the ocean waves, leisurely and coolly, clasping a heavy club with both hands, placing it on his shoulder, and looked around. With his appearance alone he drove away the enemies, and they did not know how to approach him. But suddenly, among the enemy's fitted belted robes and chain mail, he saw a coat of armor that was decorated better than others...

And he rushed to meet the enemy warrior, who did not see the tall bogatyr, but only at the last moment turned around when his own shadow was swallowed by another: long, wide and menacing. His eyes became wide and his face frightened, and he himself froze in motionlessness. But Dobrobud deftly picked up his heavy club and raised it over his head with effort, and from his chest came an awkward, abusive yell and a mischievous, malicious laugh, so that those who watched it themselves seemed to feel the weight of the deadly weapon. And it fell rhythmically, as if under its own weight, onto the confused yellow head. It flew into pieces in fountain splashes and brittle, like clay, pieces, washing the fertile soil with life-giving red wine, and showering the rich steel armor with the whitish pearls of teeth.

There was no head left - only a bare jaw showed white among the blunt, oozing logs.




И хотя большихъ высотъ достигъ онъ въ кровавомъ своемъ ремеслѣ, но порядкомъ ​потомился​ Добробудъ отъ ратнаго труда. Стоялъ онъ среди бушующей брани подобно скалѣ нерушимой среди океанскихъ волнъ, неторопливо и съ прохладцей, обхвативъ двумя руками, уложилъ на плечѣ тяжелую палицу, осмотрѣлся. Однимъ видомъ своимъ отгонялъ онъ ​непріятелей​ и тѣ не знали какъ бы къ ​нѣму​ подступиться. Но вдругъ средь подогнанныхъ опоясанныхъ вражьихъ халатовъ и кольчугъ увидалъ онъ панцирь что украшенъ былъ лучше иныхъ...

И ринулся онъ навстрѣчу вражьему ратнику, а тотъ не ​увидовалъ​ высокаго богатыря, но лишь въ послѣдній моментъ обернулся когда собственную его тѣнь поглотила другая: длинная, широкая и грозная. Глаза его сдѣлались широки а лицо испуганнымъ и самъ онъ застылъ въ бездвижіи. Но ловко подхватилъ Добробудъ тяжелую свою палицу и вознесъ надъ головою съ усильемъ, а изъ груди его послышался ​неукладистый​ ​бранливый​ ​зой​ да озорной ехидный смѣхъ, такъ что ​наблюдавшіе​ сами, будто бы, почувствовали тяжесть смертоноснаго оружія. И мѣрно опустилось оно, будто бы подъ собственною тяжестью, на растерянную желтую голову. ​Вдребезги​ разлеталась она фонтанными брызгами да ломкими, точно глиняными, кусками, животворящимъ краснымъ виномъ омывая плодоносную почву, да бѣлесымъ жемчугомъ зубовъ осыпая богатый стальной панцирь.

Не осталось головы - а лишь бѣлѣла среди тупого ​сочащагося​ сруба оголившаяся челюсть.

This particular image has undergone the greatest changes, because the standard archer has a long bow. Equipping a Slavic archer with such a long-range weapon would be an unforgivably large assumption, since the tradition of its use in Rus' is completely absent. By changing the bow, we get a significant number of points, the use of which only for acquiring skills, I consider unjustified, and therefore the build was completely reworked.

Снабдить славянскаго лучника подобнымъ оружіемъ дальней дистанціи было бы непростительно большимъ допущеніемъ поскольку традиція его использованія на Руси отсутствуетъ вовсе. This character, whose name my account have at the time of writing this text, was invented by me much earlier for purposes different from the current ones and belongs to a fantasy world constructed in collaboration with my friends back in 2023. In the same year, I decided to write the currently presented guide, being deeply impressed by my own dream in which it was revealed to me and I perceived it as an incentive to action.

The work, it must be said, was planned to be more large-scale and equipped with an attached plot. Milorad played the role of the main character, a "popadanets" (accidental time/world traveller) and an unreliable source. Finding himself, in an instant, in Rus' of the first decades after the adoption of Christianity, he immerses himself in the circumstances of the relationships of various heroes, mostly courtiers of a Boyar who owns a remote estate. It was these characters who owned the portraits presented in the guide, inspired by the loadouts created earlier.

Under each portrait, it was planned to place a short and vivid sketch of an episode from the life of the corresponding character, as was done under the portrait of the "Bogatyr". After this, a text was to be presented, written on behalf of the main character, in which their experience of communication was described in detail. The plot was to reflect my own experiences and impressions of a full-scale war that has been going on since 2022 in my country, and the main themes of it were: a conflict between two boyar groups rooted in the tribal era, treachery, the desire for power, religious relationships.

In the end, the events described led to an open confrontation, in which all the characters died, but on the eve of the culminating moment, the Boyar, late at night, by the fire set up in the military camp, tells Milorad the legend of the founders of Kyiv, who destroyed each other in civil strife. He orders Milorad not to enter the battle at dawn with the assembled army, but to return to the estate and take away the boyar's son, for his father has a vision that he, the Boyar, is destined to lose the battle and his lands will be put to the sword. Milorad fulfills the request and, taking the heir away, hands him over to the Slavic Priest. The hero himself, in the place indicated by the Boyar, raises a significant artifact from the swamp - the sword of Khoryv, ​​one of the founding brothers of Kyiv.

Finally, Milorad hurries to join the battle and help the boyar warriors, but meets an Adept of Veles, leading his detachment of forest dwellers to this battle. Adept claims that their meeting was predetermined by the Gods and Milorad must now perform a mysterious ritual with the sword of Khoryv at the secret forest temple, where the idols of Perun the Golden-Moustached, and Svarog, and the Elder Veles, who dressed in cattle skins, are. Alone, the hero carries out the command and feels a surge of supernatural exhaustion. Entering the crevice behind him, he plunges into a sorcerous somnambulant condition, in which episodes of events of subsequent years and the fate of friends rush through his consciousness in abrupt echoes. Coming out of the cave, he finally feels rested after a century of sleep. The temple is discovered to have been abandoned for many years, and the paths to it are overgrown. Obeying an unknown unspoken order, Milorad hurries to Kyiv to give the legendary sword to the Grand Prince, who is a descendant of the surviving son of the Boyar. Later, the artifact is used by the Rurikovichs royal family in a series of conflicts against the nomads, and in 1240 it is owned by the Galician general Dmitr, who commanded the defense of Kyiv from the Mongols, after which the weapon disappears without a trace. Milorad records his adventures in great detail on the birch bark manuscripts, which would be discovered only at the end of the 19th century under the foundation of an isolated abandoned forest church with crooked crosses. The body of the wooden temple is covered with ingrown branches and roots of ancient trees, and in its place, they say, in ancient times there was a place of worship of Veles.

Now the reader knows my original idea and let it also be known that the previously mentioned experiences from the war, which served as an impetus for the creation of this guide, ultimately did not allow me to complete it back in 2023. Now, having decided to fulfill what was planned earlier, I understand that the original version would hardly fit the format of a Steam guide to an online slasher, even if it is so beloved by me.

Въ томъ же году я задумалъ написать представленное нынѣ руководство находясь во глубочайшемъ впечатлѣніи отъ собственнаго сна, въ которомъ оно мнѣ было явлено и сіе было воспринято мною какъ побужденіе къ дѣйствію.

Работа, нужно сказать, планировалась быть болѣе масштабной и оснащенной прилагаемымъ сюжетомъ. ​Милорадъ​ игралъ въ ​нем​ роль главнаго героя, "​попаданца​" и ненадежнаго источника. Очутившись, вмигъ, на Руси эпохи первыхъ десятилѣтій послѣ принятія ​Христіанства​, онъ погружается въ обстоятельства взаимоотношеній различныхъ героевъ, въ массѣ своей, придворныхъ Боярина владѣющаго удаленной усадьбой. Именно этимъ персонажамъ принадлежали ​представленные​ въ руководствѣ портреты ​вдохновленныя​ созданными ранѣе выкладками.

Подъ каждымъ изъ портретовъ планировалось помѣстить краткую и яркую зарисовку эпизода жизни соотвѣтствующаго персонажа, какъ это сдѣлано подъ портретомъ "Богатыря". Послѣ сего долженъ былъ быть представленъ текстъ составленный отъ лица главнаго героя, въ которомъ подробно описывался ихъ опытъ общенія. Сюжетъ долженъ былъ отражать мои ​собственныя​ переживанія и впечатлѣнія отъ полномасштабной войны длящейся съ 2022 года въ моей странѣ и основными темами онаго были: конфликтъ двухъ боярскихъ группъ уходящій корнями въ племенную эпоху, вѣроломство, стремленіе къ власти, ​религіозныя​ взаимоотношенія.

Въ концѣ концовъ ​описанныя​ событія приводили къ открытому противостоянію, въ которомъ ​всѣ​ персонажи погибали, но наканунѣ кульминаціоннаго момента, Бояринъ, глубокой ночью, у костра установленнаго въ военномъ лагерѣ, ​разсказываетъ​ ​Милораду​ легенду объ основателяхъ Кіева, погубившихъ другъ друга въ междоусобицахъ. Онъ наказываетъ ​Милораду​ не вступать на разсвѣтѣ въ бой вмѣстѣ съ собраннымъ войскомъ, но вернуться въ усадьбу и увести сына боярскаго ибо отцу его снисходитъ видѣніе, будто бы ему, Боярину, суждено бой проиграть и земли его будутъ преданы ​мѣчу​. ​Милорадъ​ исполняетъ просьбу и, уведя наслѣдника прочь, передаетъ его славянскому волхву. Самъ же ​Герой​ въ указанномъ Бояриномъ мѣстѣ поднимаетъ изъ болота знаковый артефактъ - мечъ ​Хорива​, одного изъ братьевъ-основателей Кіева.

Наконецъ, ​Милорадъ​ спѣшитъ присоединится къ битвѣ и помочь боярскимъ ратникамъ, но встрѣчаетъ служителя ​Велеса​, ведущаго свой отрядъ лѣсныхъ жителей на оную битву. Послѣдній утверждаетъ, что ихъ встрѣча была предрѣшена Богами и ​Милорадъ​ долженъ, нынѣ, совершить таинственный обрядъ съ мѣчемъ ​Хорива​ на потаенномъ лѣсномъ ​капищѣ​, гдѣ идолы ​Перуна​ ​златоустаго​, и ​Сварога​, и ​Велеса​-старца въ одеждахъ изъ скотьихъ шкуръ. Въ одиночествѣ ​Герой​ исполняетъ ​веленное​ и чувствуетъ приливъ сверхъестественнаго изнуренія. Войдя въ разселину позади онъ окунается въ колдовское сомнамбулическое состояніе, въ которомъ эпизоды событій послѣдующихъ ​лѣтъ​ и судьба друзей проносятся обрывистыми отголосками въ сознаніи. Повинуясь не​вѣдомому​ негласному приказу ​Милорадъ спѣшитъ въ Кіевъ отдать Великому Князю, потомку уцѣлѣвшаго сына боярскаго, легендарный мечъ. Въ дальнѣйшемъ артефактъ используется Рюриковичами въ чередѣ конфликтовъ противъ кочевниковъ, а въ 1240 г. имъ владѣетъ ​галицкій​ тысяцкій ​Дмитръ​, командующій обороной Кіева отъ Монголовъ, послѣ чего оружіе безслѣдно исчезаетъ. ​Милорадъ​ же записываетъ подробнѣйше свои похожденія на берестяныхъ грамотахъ, ​которыя​ ​обнаружаются​ лишь въ концѣ 19 ​вѣка​ подъ фундаментомъ изолированной оставленной лѣсной церквушки съ покосившимися крестами. Тѣло деревяннаго храма испещрено вросшими вѣтвями и корнями вѣковѣчныхъ ​древъ​, а на мѣстѣ его, поговариваютъ, стояло въ ​древнѣйшія​ времена мѣсто поклоненія ​Велесу​.

Теперь читателю вѣдома моя изначальная задумка и, пускай, такъ же, будетъ извѣстно, что ​упомянутыя​ ранѣе переживанія, ​послужившія​ толчкомъ къ созданію сего руководства, въ концѣ концовъ, и не позволили мнѣ его ​заершить​ еще въ 2023. Теперь же, вознамѣрившись выполнить, таки, обозначенное ранѣе, я понимаю, что изначальный варіантъ врядъ-ли подошелъ бы формату руководства ​Стимъ​ къ невзначайному ​онлайнъ​-​слешеру​, пускай и столь мной любимому.

I ran it through hotpot.ai several times (from 3 to 20), slightly changing the query. Then, I extracted the most successful elements from each of the resulting images using Photoshop and combined them. And then, I adjusted the color scheme, corrected irregularities, etc. with the Photoshop tools

Черезъ hotpot.ai нѣсколько разъ (отъ 3 до 20) прогонялъ слегка мѣняя запросъ. Затѣмъ въ фотошопе изымалъ съ каждой изъ полученныхъ картинокъ наиболѣе ​удачные​ элементы и совмѣщалъ. А послѣ настраивалъ при помощи фотошопныхъ ​инструментовъ​ цвѣтовую гамму, правилъ неровности и т.д.
