About This Guide
This guide was created in the hopes of aiding new players with the mechanics of Autoforge as well as navigating the opening minutes and hours of play.

This guide is created with knowledge I have picked up and learnt about the game myself, along with several helpful insights from the community both on the forums and the official Discord.

This guide is a work in progress, so if something is missing or you have a suggestion, please leave a comment or get in touch with me on AutoForge's discord. I'm just a player, but I'm usually lurking over there.

The getting started guide for now covers the basics and gives you a strong start within the tutorial. If requested I'll expand on this and update with further parts. Either way I intend to continue with the guide up until at least conduits.
Getting Started
This is a brief guide in hopes to aid you at the very start of the game

Once you have generated your world and have gotten into the game, go ahead and get started with the first part of the tutorial.

Now interact with Apotheos to awaken it along with the mainframe. To the left of the mainframe should be some vines, go ahead and climb up those to collect the Ancient Tech. You can now go to the mainframe and unlock the main frame upgrade "empower"

EMPOWER
Boosts Health by 4, Harvest power by 50% and crafting speed by 25%.

From here you will wanted to get started on the next step called "Forge Ahead"

You can quickly gather the 8 pieces of stone from the large and little rocks that are scattered along the floor. While you are doing this, its also a good idea to harvest the cursed and normal logs too as you'll be needing them in just a minute. Its a good idea to harvest some of the vines as well for some easy biofuel. From here you will want to go ahead and craft 2 forges and place them directly below the iron deposit as shown

Now we'll be moving onto the third part of the tutorial "Research Tech"

From here you should craft 2 chests and place them at either sides of the forges. Hover over the forges and make sure the green arrow is facing the direction of your adjacent chests. This way, the ingots will automatically be put into your chests. No go and manually mine 22 pieces of iron ore from the deposity instead of the requested 5. Once you have them you can interact with your forges and begin smelting them into ingots.

QUICK TIP
You will want to save your wood at this point and use your biofuel instead. Wood at the start of the game is a finite resource.

Once you have the required ingots in your inventory go ahead and open up the research screen with "T", hover over basic extraction and add it to the queue and research will automatically begin. Now's a good time to grab some more resources from the vines and stalagmites that are dotted around the map.

Once research has finished, go ahead and craft 4 crank drill to get the next part of the tutorial "Get Cranking" underway

The reason you've created 4 crank drills is so that you can have 2 on the iron deposits feeding your forges while the other 2 chip away at the wood deposit.

QUICK TIP
Have a look below in the Starter Blueprints section for the Starter Iron Patch and Starter Wood Patch blueprints to get these setup.

With these steps complete you can begin "Emitter Expansion"

With the 10 remaining iron ingots in your inventory head to the right of Apotheos and loot the ancient chest for 2 pieces of void matter. With the iron ingots and void matter in your inventory go ahead and interact with Apotheos and expand your emitter range

QUICK TIP
Expanding your emitter range from now on will unlock new areas to explore

Since we have already grabbed our first piece of ancient tech and upgraded at the mainframe, "Mainframe Upgrading will auto complete.

Finally we can begin heading up to the surface to explore our world with "surfacing"

Before heading up, be sure to go back to the ancient chest and loot the 6 oil clot inside so you can craft 2 lots of torches for a total of 10. You'll want to use these as you navigate up to the surface, and dont worry about the finite amount you have as we can farm oil clots in just a moment.

As you journey upwards be sure to harvest vines for biofuel, get stone and wood and make a mental not of any areas that are sparkling if you can. These areas are resource deposits. You can also place a torch next to these deposits or dig a small entrance so you won't forget where they are.

Once you have made it to the surface you will be tasked with killing an Oil Slime and the spawner. Before doing this take a moment and explore the open area and see if there is more than one spawner for the Oil slimes. If uou were lucky and have multiple go ahead and destroy one for now but keep atleast one alive. You want to do this as killing oil slimes will reward you with oil clots which are invaluable early game as they are needed to craft torches.

Also, destroying these spawners is how you will acquire void matter. Be be sure to keep an eye out for them as they can spawn underground too.

QUICK TIP
Farming the poisonous snails is a worthwhile venture too, as the fungi can be used as fuel and later refined into biofuel

Go ahead and return to base and drop off your loot. From here you will want to begin "Node Discovery"

Remember thos sparkling spots before you checked out while you were exploring? Hopefully while searching these areas you managed to find all of the 4 required deposits. To mark these deposits as discovered, you will need to approach them and mine a single piece of the resource.

From here on you should be good to head out and adventure on your own. Your next quest will be "Transport Items"

QUICK TIP
Be sure to check the Frequently Asked Questions for useful tidbits and Starter Blueprints for a quick mall and efficient forge setups.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will AutoForge have a roadmap?
Yes you can view it here

https://steamproxy.com/steamstore/news/app/1960480/view/4176600429546163779?l=english

Will AutoForge have multiplayer?
Multiplayer is planned for a future release. There is no information about local hosting or dedicated servers at this time.

Will AutoForge have modding compatibility?
Currently modding is unofficially supported so there is no workshop or dedicated support. There is, however, a modding section on there Discord server with various discussions. Some mods are also available on Nexus Mods

Nexus Mods [www.nexusmods.com]

Can I skip the tutorial?
Currently as of version 0.2.9 the tutorial cannot be skipped or disabled

How do I report a bug with the game, or leave feedback?
You can report problems and leave feedback both on the dedication sections of the Steam forums and official Discord server.

Steam Bug Reports
Steam Feedback
AutoForge Discord [discord.gg]

I cant find anymore spawners on the surface
Spawners can also spawn underground, so be sure to fully explore the map

I've ran out of void matter and can't progress
As mentioned above be sure to explore and look for spawners as this is currently the only way to get void matter. Jasson has for the forseeable future made void matter a craftable item untill more ways have been added into the game to receive void matter. If the problem still persists a bug report is suggested.

I cant find any resources in the world
Zoom out in game and look for a twinkiling effect on the map. This is easy to spot in unexplored areas and is a indicator of a resource node. Also be sure to light up areas you've explored as sometimes it can be easy to walk straight past some nodes.

With patch 0.2.9 resources were slightly overhauled and have become more common. if you're on an old save such as from 0.2.7 that was bugged its suggested that you generate a new world.

What is collection range?
Collection range on machines lets you customise how items are pulled from tubes. Currently there are three settings. Two of which pull automatically from adjacent pipes that can be set to either one or two blocks away. The third option makes it so items have to be piped directly into the machine.

I am about to run out of wood, what should I do?
To prolong this resource as fuel, you should be looking at turning it into biofuel. Once you have reached far enough into the game, Plant Supports can be used to create a sustainable source of fuel and crafting components. This can be unlocked from the tech tree.

How do I automate item retrieval from placed chests?
Porters. This item can be researched and is used to move items from chests and into pipes.

The conduit has stopped taking mana
Approach the conduit and click on the infuse mana button. Enemies will come in waves to attack you, so this gives you a breather in between waves to make sure you are prepared.

The conduit's output hasn't increased between stages
To achieve maximum power output from the conduit, you need to reach the final stage of infusion

The conduit's output has stopped
The conduit has most likely been damaged and will need to be prepared. Once done output of power should resume shortly after.

The conduit's colour has changed to purple
As above the Conduit has been damaged and will need to be repaired.

How do I quickly select an item in the overworld?
You can highlight any item in the game with your cursor and press 'Q' if the item is in your inventory it will be selected for placement. Doing this on factories that are in production will also copy over the machines selected item for production.

How many forges can a basic pipe feed?
The basic Tier 1 pipes throughput can sustain a maximum of ten forges for ore. For biomass a single tube can feed 25 forges.

Can I move Crankos?
Currently Crankos cannot be moved, I'd suggest moving your base East or West slightly so his placement doesn't become a problem.

When machines aren't running, do they consume power?
Yes when a machine is not running it is in a 'idle' state with significantly reduced power draw.

When processing plants, the output was not as I expected it to be
Outputs are not a 100% guarantee. Currently the UI does not reflect this, but there are in depth charts and graphs over on the wiki.

Cranking is too difficult or awkward
The way cranking works can be changed from the accessability options and toggling "Interactive Interfaces"

In what order do splitters output?
Splitters will always output in a clockwise or round robin rotation.

How can I contribute to AutoForge?
Firstly the Wiki is community driven so take a look there. Secondly spreading the word about the game on socials, videos, streams etc. Most importantly be sure to report any bugs you find.

This guide currently is pretty outdated. I originally made it back when the game was around 0.2.17 or something like that I believe...

So yeah, there is going to be a fair few things that just seem odd or are outright wrong at the moment.

I do plan on getting the guide updated some point soon now that 0.4.0 is out

In the same vein as grinking’s question, have the speed of pipes been updated? The pipes are currently listed at 150/min and smelters accept inputs at 10/min. Doesn’t that mean a single pipe can feed 15 smelters? Thanks for the guide! Just making sure im not discounting some math that brings it down to 10.

So in the "Forges" Picture the pipes are (from top to bottom) : Ore , Fuel and Output... Hope that helps figuring out the rest ^^
DynaMike78 22 Apr, 2024 @ 7:24am
@grinking. I assume the "feeds 10 Smelters" is for the ore but the middle pipe would be Fuel and thats enough for 25 smelters, iirc

I'm sure I'm going to make myself look dense with this question (only new to the game - hence looking at guides), but here goes anyway - if in the blueprints section with the smelting line-up, the single tube of fuel has enough to feed 10 smelters... and you have a line of smelters being fed by a tube... how can you mirror it, and have another 10 smelters fed from the same tube...?? Is that not going to be starving half the smelters?

Thanks! I learned quite a bit from your guide.
