It's quite simple: the saves are set in an ini format and are super easy to read and edit.
also doubles as a NG+ guide for those that want it.

so you're bored already? well I am too. let's fix that with a new game plus! and yes. this was by complete accident.

this is assuming you've already beaten the game once and know what items do what. undesirable effects can happen so ALWAYS back up your save.

this is a super simple guide.

step 1. turn off steam cloud. steam cloud will prevent any changes due to having the file backed up.
step 2. know where your appdata folder is. if you don't, look it up. go to local and then look for a folder called "arzette" that's created after starting a new game.
step 2.1 (optional but recommended) make sure you back up your saves in a secure directory in case something goes awry
step 3. this is where the fun begins. the save file is in .INI format, easily readable in most text editors. the save can be messed with in any number of ways, such as giving yourself upgrades, changing your difficulty, etc..

just look at an option, and if it's an option you want to get early, set it from 0.000000 to 1.000000 (literally change one digit)

example:
purple_beam_unlock="1.000000"

will start you with purple magic. (able to access red, blue, and purple blocks, as well as defeating red and blue shielded enemies) changing the items you get *will* make the game act like youve obtained them legitimately. and yes, if you obtain an item that leads up to a sequence it will only skip the part to what youve edited. (ex getting the speed shoes enabled will still have the enchanted shoes show up, but obtaining them will make the game already clear getting the speed shoes)
this does NOT make you able to shoot magic by itself, you'll need to at least get an item that enables red magic (and thus SHOOTING magic, like the gun or sword beams) to be able to use purple magic.

step 4: save your game and see if the changes you made stick.

this can double as a NG+ feature too. THANK YOU DEVS THIS GAME IS THE GIFT THAT KEEPS ON GIVING!

how busted is this? well i'm out the gate and i already have the purple sword and ultimate sword so you tell me!
small side note
this game runs on the same engine as the remasters of the cdi zelda games, right down to having the same save system that allows you to manipulate things however you wish.
