Welcome, this guide contains several optimized builds for survivability and endgame progression in overlord mode.
Please note that these builds are based on my personal game experience and are not copied from the web.

Introduction

Welcome and nice to meet you.
Building requires a general understanding of sinergies through skills and passives, i hope this shortguide will help you increasing the fun over this game.

Character selection

While casters provide alot of fun and sinergies over elements, consider that if you reached endgame with most of skills and runes unlocked, you may want to focus on melees for survival during overlord runs. There are just a few reliable builds i made for casters, i hope you will enjoy them.

Finishers

Every skillset has its finisher.
Whatever is your pick: armor,thunder,poison,bleed,ice..etc

Let's say i want to build something based on electric, it should be everything that stacks thunder+daze+disoriented, plus:



I want to build something based on armor, the finishers will be titan's cleaver and shield bash:





Runes

Depending on what you wanto to build, the first pick will be something that boost your core strategy.
I highly recommend if you are new to building, to stick with the rune that reflects your element affinity:

Fire: searing intensity
Electric: Vulnerable exploit
Bleed: Pulse of agony
Critical: Heroic slash skill + Critical mastery

Divine legacy : builds based on this rune will be very powerful expecially if paired with endless refill, which allows to refrersh your locks at the start of every run.
Every 25 levels you will be presented with 3 legendaries, and if you saved locks, you will be able to pick 3 consecutive legendaries which will increase your character skills.

Singular focus: builds based on this legendary rune will provide tons of fun, and need to be paired with solid damage or defensive skills in order to maximize the damage and defensive output

Adrenaline and Recklessness are basically a berserker setup, see the character build later in this guide

Unwavering persistence : can be a nice add to warrior and berserker builds if you dont want to go on area boost for ground slam

Decapitator + merciless precision: if you want fast kills, that might be the combo you are looking for

Purity and Sinchrony are just lovely if you plan to have a pure build,these picks will help out a lot

Versatility runes



Reroll will be a must have to increase the chance of finding the skills you need for your build, or later in the runs, to replace the common passives and search for rares



Endless refill will be required in some builds, expecially divine legacy builds where allows you every 25 levels to pick 3 legendaries



Unconventional start is mostly for hybrids. you want your own build, several rerolls to find your picks needed and the weapon power, removing the starting skill.



Center of attention is to make a good use of random position skills, now targeted on this character.
However i did not find this usefull in deep runs.

Weapons choice

Depending on what you are going to build, weapon can help you a lot during the start, expecially with the rune: weapon expert.
You may want to remove every skill it is prersented at start or you may want to have it depending on your build.


Monkey King - General endgame info
Some useful tips for Monkey king gameplay

Prowess and Colossal
Whirling defence and Expansive throw may give a reason to mix them while trying builds.
If mixed together can be very effective, expecially with dot builds.
Light beam for example, can be one of the skills that could potentially be combined with Prowess and Colossal.
We also have access to a new rune called battle profiency which cost 1, that can rise the overall potency of this stat.

Orbs of Energy
You will be able to collect orbs from the very first Skilltree levels.
The white and dark orbs have different effects and i do suggest for the endgame to always go for dark orbs. As it may be useful mixing both for spawn positions, they can really affect damage damage when you collect all the dark orbs in the map.

Orbs of Energy - Positioning
You may think that the spawning is random, but they actually can be foreseen.
The white can usually spawn in the direction you are moving, or close to, while the dark one usually spawn behind you.
Which means that, if you are facing and going north during the spawn, to collect the black orb you will have to go back on your step south, so be careful when the map is full of circles, as you may want to actually mix them in order to survive and focus on combat

Blessing of the Depths
Selecting blessings, depending on the build, can give you access to fury of the seas faster or increase the damage while in this form.
For slower setups, expecially with wail of the reefs, i highly suggest to go for fervor.
With 4 / 5 fervor skill picks you will transform in a few seconds of stage.

Fury of the seas
This form has an immense damage power and can be controlled by increasing critical damage / chance stats.
All the effective build i made untill now are based on critical chance and this formgreatly increase the damage output.
Increasing the damage output and chance in this form increases the damage potential it already has.

Positioning
Fighting style depends on the skills you picked.
However it doesn't matter at high OL stages, since area of effect will be so wide that even melee attacks will hit anyway.
The rush in / rush out can be situational and mostly on your playstyle.
This character is mostly a hybrid but with slightly lower melee skills survailability if i take in comparison warrior and templar.

Build general info
Chaotic aptitude and Controlled Chaos are there to help the overall damage and increase at the same time the chance to get into critical.
Critical numbers are also helped from vulberable target and critical mastery runes.
Alltogether can out beat bosses untill OL6.
However i highly recommend to invest points in agile & dashes as soon as possible, followed by behemoth stats.
This build has a huge damage output, but suffers a lot in health and needs a lot of attention starting on OL 3.

The 8midon
This myrmidon build relies on critical chance / damage + exposed debuff, finished from Celestial retribution.
This build melts bosses and can reach 9 stage with patience.
Survavability is handled from exorcism and Bullwark

1) critical chance > critical damage> fervor amount

The sequence from the first stage has to be focused on searching for more dps and crit chance/ crit damage.
The fervor amount will hbe a core pick from OL 2 - 3, as you will need to stay trasformed for the most part.
Depending on the build setup, you may want to go fervor at start instead of damage.

Highly suggest to pick them when presented between choices from the start.

Cast speed > area of effect > damage

Late game
From around OL 5 you need to start playing this build as a caster from distance and focus on targeting the center of the stage, alternating hits on the external part to clean your path.
If the movement speed will be too high i recommend to start rerolling for a blue leviathan which will greeatly increase the capacity to keep the stage under control.

Ocean's bless
This myrmidon build relies on a crit base runes build + double retribution.
Survavability is handled from holy setup & exorcism

These two finishers take advantage of the immensive build on critical chance/damage exposed and bleed dots.

Late game
This build has to be played as a hybrid in term of melee and distance, keeping field under control and sometimes running against bosses for your melee ss/eviscerate attacks.
However, progressing in the late game means that the aoe will increase and the distance necessary for hitting in melee can be widened.

Amplified Monkey
This build for Monkey king bases its damage for OL on Amplified Power rune.

For the skills we will mix Prowess and Colossal which will be helping Whirling Defence and Expansive throw

This warrior build mixes Armor + bleed and relies on Haste - Finesse stacks for scaling up multicast / movement speed.
The survavability is handled from Ground slam.

Warrior change - Rage unleashed

This skill will allow us to build rage faster. We need to select it expecially when presented in blu between choices

Bloodshed - deep wounds - Brutal Strikes

Bloodshed: Gives a chance of all of our attacks to cause bleed

Ground slam
This skill will be our heal. Built up with Area of effect, it will allow us to stay in melee range and kept us full health.
Keep in mind that in the first stages you will barely see the healings coming, but in the late game it will instantly fill our health.

Late game
The Haste stat will be covered from the Finesse multicast, so dont be afraid of rerolling to search Leviathan. I highly recommend doing this starting from OL 6, when character movement speed will be clearly visible.




Celestial Templar
This legionnaire build mixes exposed, form, haste with three finishers.
The survivability is handled from Purity.

Legionnaire changes
Legionnaire still has access to pieces for building sieges so we need to partially rely on them at in the first rounds.
I highly recommend to skip the skills which increase siege damage / area or finding pieces.
However this build is quite effective and from OL2 there won't be the necessity of building catapults.

Stacking purity through Celestial retribution will allow us to heal through late stages, it will automatically build up with celestial retribution.

Finishers
Quickstrike: Relies on Movement speed, and also give us movement speed
Celestial retribution: Holy AoE damage which scales damage with exposed
Storm of Spear: Great finisher which relies on Form buff

Quick build explanation
Spear skills stack "exposed" on enemies which nt only increase our damage but serve as a finisher for Celestial Retribution. Increasing area of damage of Celestial Retribution will increase the overall damage.
Everything that builds movement speed will increase quickstrike damage

Strategy
Game start: Search for fast skills and leave the finishers as your last three choices. Eventually quickstrike can be picked as first if you have the chance to see it.
Then always pick skill damage increase and as last, movement speed.
Mid game: start searching for area increase, expecially for celestial retribution and storm of spear.
For storm of spear always search for: Cast frequency > area of effect
Late game: everything on damage - blue leviathan is nearly a must when presented from OL4


Eruption Templar
his legionnaire build mixes exposed, form, haste with two finishers and crit runes.
Differently from Celestial Legionnaire build, this set doesn't have an actual heal or armor for survivability but relies on high damage ourput and aoe

In this new version we will handle survivability with Beacon of light, which also will help us with Exposed debuff, and shadow step immunity.

Havoc and Horrific Presence

Disarray is a great damage builder. When it is presented in the late game is the best choice with also blue leviathan.

Strategy
Shadow step: Frequency > multicast > damage > aoe
Beacon of Light: aoe > frequency > damage
Always search for time between assignments: 3 picks will be always on boost, while the fourth pick will present the guy before the boost is over. Skip the bonus duration and value if picking the bonus damage from assignment. If it is blue, it may be a good choice depending on the other possibilities.

Movements
Do not rush between bosses aoe unless their zone is full of portals: play searching for enemy back and immediatly go away when targeted, repeat.
Assignment: at the start, save the assignment when statues are spawning, kill the guy and start the bosses fight.
When shadow step will grant us enough portals you can even rush in and bounce through them.

Late game
In the late game you want to focus on: Disarray (if presented between choices)>Blue leviathan>block chance>Behemoth for HP increase
Do not hesitate to lock or pick a green stat if it isa life saver: Behemot/Resilience etc

The assassin
Assassin changes with patch

Bounty hunter - increases the duration of bonuses from assignment, i recommend to skip even if we find the following (even grey) powerup:

Bounty hunter - reduces the time between assignments: with three picks of this grey skill you will permanently have boost on starting from the first assignment.

Important pick for our build: Laceration

Stacking up this + elemental flow and pulse of agony runes to buiild a perfect oneshot machine

This is a oneshot build which combines Bleed + Doom / Haste and form together with Critical Mastery rune

Ice Weaver
This build for Arcane Weaver will focus on ice vortex as finisher together with Glacial affinity for damage increase.

Horrifying presence for Disarray in late game is a great help for damage.

*After the first screen there is a viariant with light beam instead frost strike

The Hound Master
Houndmaster build thought on Aptitude + Shattered.

Houndmaster change - Hound feast

This skill will allow us to make our hounds useful in the late game, i'd suggest going on dps over speed.
Be sure to invest only if the presented skill is green or blue, otherwise might invest in something else.

Strategy
Focus on movement speed. When you reach 7 with mixed colours in agility ( you can hover the box on the left corner to see how many points in agility you invested) the character will start moving decently.
So it would be speed>damage>area of effect
On OL 4-5 if the speed is enough ywe may start searching for Blue or even green Leviathan

Portal Rogue (Pre-patch)
If you are seeking for massive dps this is a must.
While you will be godlike in the first overlord stages, keep in mind that the max i reached was overlord 5, where bosses oneshot, and most of times they do it as soon as they spawn.

Also keep in mind that portal>blind spots is very punishing.

*At the end of stage 1 (or 2 depending on your machine) remember to lower your graphic settings

Banish : use basnish event skills and find your build skills fast
Lock: save the locks for the 25th level where you can pick and lock 3 legendaries
Reroll: use at start for finding core picks and later for finding rare passives

Epic or Legendary multicast shadowstep is a must pick over everything else
shadowstep: frequency > aoe > dps
Bladestorm: aoe > dps > frequency

Subdue : Frequency > dps > area

Paladin 6 (pre-patch)
Paladin 6 uses the blasonated tier with bleed set. Surprisingly the first stages ended in 6 minutes which is quite interesting.

Eviscerate and subdue can be switched if you dont find one of these.
Keep in mind that eviscerate removes bleed, which is doubled as dot with Elemental Flow rune, but may work with an additional direct damage.

This build made for Overlord mode reequires patience in the first stage to build it.

Gangrene

Shadowstep is the only skill that will let you go through the lategame with groundslam and let you heal properly.
Normal enemies will melt from far away and you wont be able to heal, but warping on them will solve the problem.


Venomous Templar (pre-patch)




This builld makes a good use of Corrosive spear and purging slam.

Skill mastery nature: Noxious shot (obvious finisher) and venomous arrow

This Legionnaire build relies on speed, vulnerability, arcane mace as finisher

Bewaree that despite the dmg output, theree wont be much survailability, so use it may be used more for endless then overlord.

Also, any tips on how to make it survive longer? The damage and speed are great, but I just can't get past like 6-7 overlord level due to damage.

Hello, love the yellow flash build and it seems to be working better than anything I found so far on the Internet for me. One thing that is unclear to me is which upgrades are recommended to take.

I'm not quite sure how to understand these notes:

From Thunder Clap
Prowess: Damage Modifier + 4%
Electrified: 2 stacks

or

From Call lightning
Electrified: 3 stacks
Finisher

If you could explain what that means, it would be great. Thanks

You were correct, but i can confirm that the assassin build doesn't rely on backstab. It uses sinister strike and eviscerate to take advantage of the listed stats and bleed.
It was my error putting s.m. thrust on backstab

i just reached ol9 with barb by going bleed + splittergranade, then i stopped because it took too long, but you for sure can go ol10 with it.
