Extended Color Palette Revised

Beschreibung

On the surface, the revised version of this mod does the same things as the original.
It just goes about it in a less drastic way. (A modder lives and learns.)
I suggest you use this version instead of the original mod for compatibility reasons,
BUT:
If you switch from the original mod with an existing save that uses one of the bright palettes, all of those colors (your carpets and paint on objects) will vanish.
And be aware that you will have to redo the settings for this version of the mod, including custom colors if you've set any.

What's different in this revised version?
When the base game palette is switched out for a bright one, the original structure colors are NOT removed. The new color values and labels are patched into the original color definitions. The internal identifying name of the color definition will no longer match the shown color and label (for example: The color internally identified as "Structure_RedPastel" is labeled "forest" and displayed as green). But the player never sees the internal name, so this shouldn't pose a problem from the player's perspective. Also, the colors of the bright palettes are now labeled with proper color names.

Description:

This mod gives you the option to make changes to the color palette used for vanilla carpets and for painting floors and buildings. Nothing will happen when you first load it, you have to go to the mod settings and choose what you want to do. You can:

1) Exchange the regular color palette with different palette. A switch on an existing save will change its carpets and paints to the colors of the new palette.

  • Bright
  • Less bright: Same colors but darker
  • Bright contrast: Same colors but including very light and very dark shades

------
and/or
------

2) Add the colors of the bright palette to Ideology colors. (Ignore this setting if you don't have Ideology installed.)

------
and/or
------

3) Extend the main color palette with a set of style colours.
If you switch between styles for an existing save, you can consistently change the appearance of all painted buildings, floors and carpets of your base in one step, provided you used the style colors for them. Colors from the main palette (vanilla or from this mod) are not affected by a style switch. The colors white and black are reordered to be the last in the main palette, so you can easily identify where the style colors start. (Though the carpet palette sorts differently.)

You have eight options for the style palette (see preview images). Their colors are named with words that aren't color-related to keep the labels consistent for all styles.

A ninth option, created for use with Extra Stone, is not designed to be switchable. It consists of the colors of all the added stone types plus one shade, lighter or darker, for each. The colors of vanilla stones are added as well, though without any shades (see style Vanilla Plus for that). The colors in this palette are labeled with the names of the stone types. You can technically make a style switch with this palette, but the color changes will probably be charmingly eccentric.

Beware: If you deactivate style colors completely after having used them, they are removed. If you do this for an existing save, any style colors on floors and buildings will be gone and corresponding carpets will vanish.

------
and/or
------

4) Add up to 15 custom colors to the palette.

To add your own custom colors, you need to know their RGB values (RGB meaning red/green/blue). You can look those up on the web. The values must be between 0 and 255. The name you choose for your color must be unique and not contain any numbers or spaces. If you want to change a custom color that you've already used in your existing save, you can do that as long as the name remains the same. The paint (or carpet) will still be there and change its color according to your new RGB values.

Find the Settings
The settings are created with XML Extensions.
1.6: Choose this mod in the vanilla mod settings.
Earlier versions: Open the game options, then click the little plus sign next to the mod options button, and then choose the mod on the left hand side.

Incompatibilties/Issues
I hope that most of the incompatibility issues are resolved with this revised version of the mod. Any mod that uses structure colors will always find them. Their appearance is changed, though, and the color changes might not have a pleasant effect in the context of other mods. But nothing should be outright disrupted.

Persisting issue: No changes are made to the UI, so it is possible that added ideology colors are cut off in a menu, because the space isn't sufficient to display them all. This also affects other mods making use of colors, such as Gradient Hair.

@Vengeance I can't reproduce this error. Everything works as it should when I test it. This must be an interaction with another mod. (Did you restart the game after adding the custom colors?)

Hi, i have the mod loaded (1.6) and everything seems fine except there's no option to add custom colors. (I have the add 15 custom colors box checked). Anyway around this, or any file i can edit to directly add the colors instead of using the UI?

@Imranfish That sounds really neat! This seems like a sign to me to overhaul the menu. I will happily dive into that when the initial 1.6 craze is over. Thank you for coming over here and letting me know about this!

After looking at your menu, I got inspired to add a few more features to XML-E. I added proper color settings, and a way to display the chosen color in real time.

1.6 update:
This mod worked with version 1.6 when I tested it. If you encounter any errors, please let me know.

Ye I did it already, I was just curious about if somehow something was going to break after the change, since no mod uses a "true" white. Thanks for the insight :er_heart:

@lucky_one Possible, yes, but I don't want to change the existing palette. "True" white is rather glaring among the other colors. But you can easily change one of the existing colors to your preferred shade of white: Go into the Patches folder of this mod, open the xml file Patch_8_Ideo-Colors, and replace the three RGB values between the <color></color> tags of one of the listed colors. (255, 255, 255) for the brightest white.

Just a question, is it possible to add a white for ideology that isn't greyish? Every color mod tunes it but it always has the greyish tone. I wonder if it is a limitation of some kind.

@DRE4DNOUGHT No, only the colors of the bright palette can be added to Ideo colors.

Can I use the custom colors for my ideology?
