6 Day War

Opis
“6 day war” is a mod whose aim is to recreate the 6 day war which took place in June 1967 and which saw Israel and its Arab neighbors oppose each other in a blitzkrieg which demonstrated the military superiority of the Hebrew state.

It is also the first mod in the “HoS Old School Wargames” series which offers a gaming experience close to tabletop wargames in terms of design, ergonomics and gameplay.
Other conflicts will follow, inspired by game scenarios or existing tabletop wargames. Next on the list is obviously the Yom Kippur War of 1973.
Feel free to suggest others in the comments.

THE GAME

The scenario takes place over 10 days; 40 turns of 6 hours each (as the game does not accept turns shorter than one day, the scenario takes place over 40 days in the game – you will have to do the conversion yourself, sorry).

The belligerents are Israel, Egypt, Jordan and Syria. Lebanon and Saudi Arabia are neutral and it is not desirable to declare war on them.

Each hexagon represents 6 to 8 km of distance.

The land units in game are brigades, sometimes battalions.

Air units are squadrons

Unit symbols do not represent a single type of element of the unit (nor a single vehicle, soldier or plane) but rather give an indication of the quality of the unit. Units are made up of all kinds of sub-units with varying skills and tasks and unit numbers reflect the unit's overall characteristics in different areas of the game.

Where possible, historical orders of battle have been followed (including unit names and starting positions). Some accommodations with historical reality were necessary in order to balance the gameplay.

The game map is an overlay that is superimposed on the original HoS map (The one made by Whooman - thanks to him).
This is a unique game feature in the world of computer wargames that the developer was kind enough to implement in HoS. This had the effect of transforming this game into a fantastic sandbox for porting tabletop wargames to a computer version (I can't thank Valentin enough for granting this request on my part).
The map may take a few seconds to a minute to appear when you start the game, be patient... I think the result is worth it.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE DRAWN MAP TO BE SHOWN
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The first time you play the scenario, you MUST ask the game to display the overlay of the drawn map.
To do this, once the scenario is open:
1- Press pause (esc)
2- Click on “Open Overlay”
3- In the window that opened, choose the following path:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\1240630\3078997926\Maps\6 Day War.jpg
4- Wait a few moments for the map to appear

This is only necessary the first time you run the scenario. Once the manipulation has been carried out, you will no longer have to do it when you restart the scenario.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Suez Canal is impassable (this is why the Egyptians have pontooner units placed on it). This prevents the Israeli player from crossing it because the threat of Egypt's collapse would have inevitably triggered the Soviet Union's entry into the war... And there, it would have been another game.

In a war that only lasted 6 days, there is no question of being able to buy units during the conflict (their prohibitive cost will not allow it anyway). No unit loss can be compensated, you will only be able to repair a few.
Obviously, no research and prototypes either.
Labor and production capacity also have no effect in the game.
The gameplay is focused on the conduct of the different battles which will mark this conflict.

The paratroopers begin the game in their air transport. Although they were employed as infantry in the historic 1967 battle, there's nothing stopping you from parachuting them behind enemy lines if that seems appropriate.

In order to simulate the particularity of this war which is the surprise attack on enemy air bases by Israel, the fighters of the Arab countries are in reserve at the start of the game and can only be used in the second round, leaving their bombers defenseless which will be doomed to suffer the terrible effects of the IAF's surprise attack in the first round.

Another characteristic of this war are the terrible mistakes made by the Egyptians during the conflict (deactivation of air defenses during the first hours of the Israeli air raid, change in the communication protocol with their allies just before the start of the conflict, poor command, lies to their allies about the reality of their defeat, etc.). All this has led to a very great ineffectiveness of the Arab armies as a whole on the battlefield, although on paper the latter are more numerous than those of the Israelis and rather well equipped.
To simulate this fiasco in the game, Arab units are of very low quality (represented by their strength figure below 100).
Conversely, the extraordinary motivation and commitment of Israeli soldiers as well as their creativity in battle (as well as luck, it must be admitted) are valued by a force of 120.
Under these conditions, the Israeli player has a great chance of succeeding in reproducing the miracle of David's victory against Goliath (on paper), but it is not guaranteed. Will the HoS AI make the same tactical and strategic errors as the Arab armies of the time? Nothing is less sure…
In any case, the player's objective (whatever side he chooses) should not be absolutely to win the game, but rather to try to do better than the protagonists of 1967.

The scenario was tested on both sides against the AI and sometimes I was surprised to see the AI almost exactly reproduce the historical course of this war... but not always, which clearly demonstrates the strength of HoS AI in terms of replayability.
I haven't played it human vs. human, but I think the outcome of the game could be uncertain (even if the Arab player may seem at a disadvantage).

The overlay is not compatible for use on mac, the scale and position is wrong and even with the in-game tools it's seemingly impossible to fix, otherwise great mod.

Yes, normally you can refuel and rearm your planes, but you cannot repair losses or buy new planes (given the brevity of the conflict, this would not be very realistic)

Is it not possible to rearm and refuel the air units, and all of them in general?

thanks :)

Just wanted to pass by and say that I love the map you've created, good work on the scenario!

Yes it's normal.
The scenario is designed so that you are forced to play with only the units that are on the map (which correspond to the forces present during this conflict).

Is there a bug regards building new units? I take it as Israel you cant build units. there is just one (recon jeep) which is affordable, but is 9999 health. I take it that should have been 9999 cost?

Unless you have already done it, I would suggest to look into the new modded overlays feature for mods.
I have added a new Overlays folder in the mod's generation (if yours is lacking, just create a brand new folder and name if Overlays in your mod folder)
You can drop your overlays there, and simply load them from there when in the map editor, then you can save your map, and now the game will know where to load the custom overlays from when loading the mods :)

I updated the mod with new graphics more relevant to the 6-day war for Israeli air units.
