King of the Jungle - Obtain title of MARKHOR | Full Visual Walkthrough

This guide is intended to demonstrate exact locations of all 48 food items in order to acquire the EzGun. Except where noted, this run was completed using a new game set on Normal using the "I Like MGS3!" option. The EzGun can be acquired using any of the other options available when starting a new game.

There are 44 food items and 4 medicinal plants to collect.

To attain a true Markhor rank, one must collect all 48 food items in a single playthrough and either a)get caught more than once, b)kill more than two people, or c)use special items. No foods carry over to the next playthrough and the EzGun itself does not carry over to other difficulty levels. If you want to use it on any other difficulty level other than the one you have acquired it on, you need to do it on that difficulty level.

The Calorie Mates, Russian Rations and Instant Noodles are NOT food items and do NOT need to be collected.

No eating of food items is necessary. Simply collect the item as it floats in the air.

Some item locations are duplicated to illustrate multiple opportunities.

Food items collected in the Virtuous Mission count towards the 48 item total.

Giant Anaconda (Snake G)
Found just north of the area around the tall grass.

Russian False Mango (Fruit B)
Found hanging on trees.

Russian Oyster (Mushroom A)
On the log left of you as you start.

Tree Frog (Frog B)
Found in tall grass.

Siberian Ink Cap (Mushroom C)
You can find this mushroom at many many places. Check the base of trees in the area.

Reticulated Python (Snake H)
Very hard to miss in this area.

Indian Gavial (Gavial)
Found all around the swamp.

Dremuchij North

Magpie (Bird D)
Can be found hiding in tall grass and trees.

Yabloko Moloko (Fruit A)
Red fruit found hanging from trees.

Sunda Whistling Thrush (Bird E)
Check tall grass near first patrol guard.

Golova (Fruit C)
Can be found in the tree near the first patrol guard.

Dolinovodno

Hornet Nest (Nest)
Virtually impossible to miss. Upon entering, Snake will look at this through his binoculars. Shoot it down to collect as well as obtain the Beekeeper achievement.

Dremuchij East

Cold Medicine (C Med Medical Plant)
Check near north exit for a small, dark green bush.

Dremuchij North

Green Tree Python (Snake F)
Check trees in the area

King Cobra (Snake A)
Go to the left of the exit in the area with tall grass.

Chyornyj Prud

Coral Snake (Snake D)
Can be found before you enter the water after the second encounter with Ocelot.

Milk Snake (Snake E)
Same as Coral Snake. Be sure to collect both as they are very similar.

Otton Frog (Frog A)
Right side before entering the water.

Poison Dart Frog (Frog C)
Found before entering water. You can also find a lot of them during the fight with the Fear.

Arowana (Fish C)
Found in water believe it or not.

Bolshya Past South

Tsuchinoko (Tchnko)
This must be caught be placing mouse traps. Place traps all over an area then leave. Return and check if you caught it. If not, repeat the process.

Bolshaya Past Base

Rat (Rat)
These can be found in many places. Check under foundations of buildings like the one you find Sokolov in during the Virtuous Mission. One can also be found in the jail cell after the torture scene.

WARNING: I strongly advise not relying on the jail cell rat for this as a user has reported that rat did NOT count towards the achievement. (Thank you digitalace for reporting this issue!)

Russian Glowcap (Mushroom E)
Impossible to miss. They glow... Found just before The Pain Boss Battle and just after at the riverside.

Taiwanese Cobra (Snake B)
Found to the far right of the caves.

Vampire Bat (Bat)
Found across the caves.

Chyornaya Peschera Cave

Maroon Shark (Fish B)
Found in the water during The Pain Boss Battle

Ponizovje South

Bigeye Trevally (Fish A)
Found just after The Pain Boss Battle They are very small so look carefully.

Ponizovje Warehouse Docks

Cobalt Blue Spider (Spider)
Can be also found in Krasnogorrje Mountain Base where you meet EVA.

Graniny Gorki South (Before The Fear)

Japanese Flying Squirrel (Squirrel)
Can also be found at the very start of Operation Snake Eater.

Fly Agaric (Mushroom D)
Use Thermal Goggles if you're struggling.

Graniny Gorki Exterior: Outside Walls

Red Avadavat (Bird C)
As you enter the area there will be a high grass area. Use Thermal Goggles to help spot it better.

Graniny Gorki South (After The Fear)

Tsuchinoko (Tchnko)
As noted before, This must be caught be placing mouse traps. Place traps all over an area then leave. Return and check if you caught it. If not, repeat the process.

Svytagornyj South

Tip! - As this area contains a bunch of different medicine items, you may need to make room by wasting some. Purposefully inflict some self damage by heading to the previous area and jump off of a high ledge to break Snake's legs. (Thank you L7vanmatre for this tip!)

Styptic (Medical Plant)
Near wall. Thermal Goggles will help you spot this quicker.

Disinfect (Medical Plant)
Again, Thermal Goggles will help you spot this quicker. Can also be found in Dremuchij East just before the Cold Medicine bush.

Splint (Medical Plant)
Again, Thermal Goggles will help you spot this quicker.

Spatsa (Mushroom F)
After you exit the warehouse to go and fight The End.

Baikal Scaly Tooth (Mushroom G)
Same area like the Spatsa but on another tree.

Vine Melon (Vegetable)
Near a tree as you exit the warehouse.

Svytagornyj West

Ural Luminescent (Mushroom B)
Right before you fight The End. Go all the way to the left and you will find a muddy place. On a tree near there is this Mushroom.

Sokrovenno South

Parrot (Bird A)
This is The End's parrot. You must search the areas where you fight The End you can find that parrot sitting on a log or a ledge. Also the parrot is a sign that he is nearby.

If you have taken this boss out earlier, the parrot can still be found perched on the log where it normally would be at the beginning of Sokrovenno South.

Right after you enter that area, it will be at the corner to the right as you progress.

All over the Krasnogorrje Mountain Base area.

Tikhogornyj

Markhor (Markhor)
As mentioned earlier, Found all over the areas where The End Boss Battle takes place. However, you can also find one here after The Sorrow Boss Battle.

Rokovoj Bereg

Snake Solid (Snake J)
Found in the log north of area where you fight The Boss

Snake Liquid (Snake I)
Found in the log east of area where you fight The Boss

Snake Solidus (Snake K)
Found in the log south of area where you fight The Boss

Tips

Thermal Goggles and Motion Sensor

Thermal Goggles and Motion Sensor are extremely helpful in obtaining every plant and animal. The goggles can be obtained during the Virtuous Mission in Dremuchij North. Head to the right of the exit with tall grass and crawl inside the log. Then after the GRU fight, in the room Sokolov was first found in and then during Operation Snake Eater, inside the warehouse after the battle with Pain near some boxes. The motion sensor will display animals as white dots upon use, just be wary of nearby enemies when doing so.

Very Easy

Very Easy is an option if you just care about the achievement. This difficulty will automatically grant you the EZ Tranquiliser gun to make the challenge slightly easier.

Time Paradox

Failure and deaths will reset the challenge back to the previous checkpoint, be sure to recatch anything in that area if this happens.

Gotta Eat 'Em All

This challenge doesn't require you to eat each item however doing so will make a note of it in the CURE menu. Use this to help keep track or use Steam Overlays Notes feature.

Multiple Ranks

The rank shown on the ending results screen doesn't have to be Markhor in order to complete this achievement. As long as you met the requirements, it should unlock as usual.

Item Full?

Be sure to have room to pick up the food/item to ensure you don't accidentally miss anything. Injuring yourself on purpose to make room for medicine or eat up some previously caught food if necessary.

This guide is a combination of multiple guides I have compiled onto Steam for both ease of access and preservation. The reason I created this guide was due to the source I have used the most only being obtainable through a Wayback Machine archive. Because of this, I can only take credit for simply putting this together on Steam and providing some of my own writeups and screenshots. I will link the archive below as that is the only way I know how to credit original author of images used in this guide.

This is also my first guide, so I apologise for any formatting errors and/or lack of presentation. Hopefully, I can return to this later with some updates. If there are any changes or suggestions to the guide, feel free to let me know.

Everything is in order and with images and maps.
The screenshot was great to get the Tsuchinoko, since it appeared at the first try when matching the screenshot mousetrap location (after 5 tries)

You actually can catch the Tsuchinoko without using mouse traps, it's just a pain in the ass to find. It's very easy to find again at Tikhogornyj, though as it spawns in a sunlit area near the enrance of the cave on the north side of the river, under the tree that the Parakeet sits in.

My advice to keep track of what you done so far is after collecting everything in the prior room you then save in the next. That way you can essentially use this guide list as a markdown as you know everything in the prior areas was already collected since your save is the bookmark between whats done and what isn't.

And that's how I did it.

Also as a word of advice to the author you can also catch the Tsuchinoko at Svytagornyj South by planting the mouse traps on the grass ledge just right of the splint plant.

I also would not recommend nabbing the Tsuchinoko at Bolshya Past South due to the guards making it more dangerous. Graniny Gorki, and Svytagornyj South has no guards. I personally recommend between the other two Svytagornyj South due to the distance from the door being closer then Graniny Gorki South for faster retries and its a cleaner area to work in so its easier to retrieve your Mousetraps.

Magpies can be found in Dremuchij South during the virtuous mission. They are located on the hill where you find the life medicine and the kerotan. They are hidden in some tall grass but can be reliably hit by the mk22 if you pay attention to the grass being disturbed.

This isn't terribly important but for anyone who might think like I do - you have to actually collect the floating item disk. Eating the rat in the jail cell following the torture will not count so kill a rat elsewhere and collect it. ;-;

Sorry for the slow reply. No, I don't believe you have to catch Tsuchinoko twice. As long as you have captured and collected it at least once, you should be fine to continue. The second Tsuchinoko on the list is just another opportunity a player has to collect it.
