Preface
I highly encourage that others include their own tips in the comments!

I am not highly experienced with Resonite or it's former platform, I am learning as I go as well, it's going to be a little bare-bones for now until I continue updating this.

First things first: If you are/were a VRChat player in any capacity, do not go into this thinking it's going to be anything like VRC you will be severely disappointed. While both are definitely built on similar concepts, both are completely different executions. Resonite has much more of a focus on creation and user freedom. It's systems are complex and will take time to get used to, especially if you're used to other social VR games such as VRChat.

If you need a better idea, people often describe Resonite as like a VR Garry's Mod or SecondLife.

How to Change Your Profile Picture In-Game
This one was probably the biggest curveball I faced because if you're used to literally any other platform ever, you think you'd just click your profile picture and it'll bring up a file browser.... and then get confused when nothing happens. The way you actually goes about this makes sense in terms of consistency.
  • First go into the "Files" tab of your menu, find the image you want as your pfp on your computer and spawn it as an image/texture.
  • Then grab that image once it spawns, go to the "Home" tab in your menu and click your icon in the top-left corner, drag your image onto it and click it.

Adding a custom inventory thumbnail

To add a custom thumbnail to your item, open the root of your item in your inspector (Not CenteredRoot, the model name) then click "Attach Component", under "Uncategorized" and find "ItemTextureThumbnailSource", add it and then scroll to the very bottom of your root, spawn an image, and drag it into the "Texture" slot of the ItemTextureThumbnailSource component, then once you save the item into your inventory, it'll have an icon!

Random Info I was looking for yesterday: If you want a pixel art texture (aka Minecraft stuff) to display correctly you have to select point filtering when importing or change it to that later:missing:

you are also able to send nearly any object to others in your contacts by doing essentially the same as changing your pfp.
if you hold an object and use your laser to click the "send" button to a contact, that object will be sent to them, including images, tools, and just about anything you can hold in your hands.

Make sure you properly organise your inventory! This is one big mistake I made when starting, and now my inventory takes forever to load, since the root of my personal inventory has a few hundred items saved on it! I'm just hoping the ability to move files like a normal file manager comes soon.

On the topic of grabbing anything from your system: I suggest people instead use the Desktop tab, hit their context menu button on that screen to open up a menu, and hitting the Windows key to free their cursor from the Resonite game window. I find this to be much easier than using the file browser in-game, especially for newer users.

I am not a new player at all, but one tip I could give is: when working on something, don’t forget to save your stuff every now and then, so the worst that can happen if you mess up is just you having to reload a save.
Don’t hesitate to try stuff and to mess up, that’s totally fine and this is how you learn in here.
Lastly, remember that you can get lots of resources and help on the Discord or even in-game (look for the green badge).
