I: Introduction And Overview

You're not a loser! In Yakuza: Like a Dragon/ Ryu Ga Gotoku 7, you can swap jobs at any time you have access to Hello Work from Chapter 5 onwards! Being the equivalent of the Alltrades Abbey featured in the Dragon Quest games (Or Temple of Dharma if you prefer the old translation and hate alliteration), you can use this place to swap around what jobs your characters have, completely changing how they play.

Swapping jobs does the following:

+ Changes all stats
+ Swaps out weapon for the strongest one available
+ Changes what Job Skills you have
+ Removes job exclusive accessories

(Much better than Final Fantasy 3, which debuffs you for a few battles if you swap classes!)

There is one hitch to this. You have to qualify for the job to swap to it. Each character has a different order of jobs. To unlock them, you need to be of a certain level. That applies to all of the characters. But the second qualification is different. For Ichiban: He needs one of his Personality Stats to a certain level. For everyone else: you need to have their Drink Bond up to a certain level. We'll go over what you need for each character to take the job.

The skills with green lights are Job Skills. Those can only be used when you're in the job. The red lights are Character Skills. You get them and you keep them on that character forever. Skills in Red Text deal damage, Green Text heal, and White Text provide buffs/debuffs/status effects. See those HP + 10 and Def + 5? Those stat boosts are also permanent to the character.

Each job has an unique accessory that will boost Job Experience. Some can come in multiple copies, but some only come in one. You can equip both to boost the experience you receive for it. Ichiban does have an unique accessory called the Dragonfish Tenugui that works for him and for all of his jobs.

One thing to note is that upon entering New Game +, you will lose access to all jobs, and therefore lose access to all of the character skills tied to that job. So no Fulminating Forecast until you re-unlock Hello Work. The game will say you're Inexperienced for the job, but once you select the job, the game will recall what level you were on the previous playthrough and immediately correct it. You'll still have to re-do the Drink Bonds for the party...so Nanaba will be less useful early on. You will retain all of the stat boosts though.

Let's begin...with a word from our sponsors! Romance Workshop!
II: Romance Workshop, Money, and the Necessary Ingredients

Down the street from Hello Work is Romance Workshop, your local smithy and producer of the ultimate weapons for each of the jobs. You will need to upgrade the smithy though to get access to the ultimate weapons, so be ready to shill out a lot of money. To get to Lvl.4 (The final and required level), you'll need 22,200,000 yen. Already pretty expensive. To put that into perspective:

+ 111 Platinum Plates/222 Gold Plates
+ Beating Yakuza 5 on NORMAL...then on LEGEND four more times.
+ Getting the max bonus from Business Shareholders Meetings seven times

It is a lot, but it is totally worth it. The best weapons can be made here. How much better are they? The ultimate weapon for Ichiban's Hero class goes to 344 Attack. Shame about the other weapons, they really do pale in comparison due to stats. Even the elemental ones tend to not be really useful. (For instance, the Bodyguard line gets a weapon that improves fire damage...for a class that doesn't learn any fire attacks nautrally. Actually, looking at a list, it seems that all of the weapons made as Romance Workshop that boosts elemental damage are for classes that don't naturally learn those elemental skills)

You'll need money. Even if you aren't going for the ultimate weapons right off the bat, you'll still need money. So here's some of the strats to get moolah, from the order of the least to most effective:

1. FIGHT ENEMIES. Sadly, there's no Money Spider in this game. The Pornogra-Pharaoh (Encountered in the Yokohama Underground) are literally covered in money, but they don't drop THAT much money.

2. CASINO. Get your Style to Lvl4 and access the casino in Chinatown. Save scum your way through the Poker minigame, advancing through the higher stakes. Then cash out in Platinum Plates and the other good stuff in the casino. You could try to do the same in the Gambling Hall, but even with Koi-Koi, it will take far longer.

3. PART-TIME HERO. You get all sorts of useful stuff from doing Part-Time Hero. You can complete the Missing People and Toiler Paper requests as soon as you unlock Part-Time Hero, doing the Slugger takedown nets you a Nouveau-Riche Crown (HINT: You can farm Sluggers in the Yokohama Dungeon, there's one that spawns next to a staircase halfway through the level. Just go up and down the stairs to respawn), and doing the Cat and Kappa Statue hunt will earn you millions. Speedrunners do those missions instead of grinding in Business. Downside is that Part-Time Hero missions do not fresh in New Game +. I only put this above the casino because it's 'easier', 'more profitable', and 'fun'. The casino have endless Platinum Plates, but you have to deal with CPU...and they can just cheat.

4. BUSINESS SHAREHOLDERS MEETING. This is the 'easiest' way of doing this. Business is easy to master, even without progressing that far in the story. (I completed it around Chapter 10). It will net you 3 million yen at max bonus. It's boring, but it's efficient until you unlock the better options.

5. SOTENBORI BATTLE DUNGEON. Paying the 3 million to get to Sotenbori is a big investment, and so worth while. Throw in one million more to complete the two substories to get your hands on the Miracle Donation makes this even more broken. You'll get plenty of money, necessary crafting materials, and when you do multiple runs (And you should!) you can sell off the excess weapons. They're worth 1 million each!

6. POST GAME DUNGEON RUN. Once you beat the game, you can run through a tougher version of the final dungeon, now populated with four mini-bosses that drop 5 mil, and a superboss worth 8, 888, 888 mil. Those are the base amounts you'll get, so if you can outfit your party with more Nouveau-Riche Crowns, you'll can get a lot more. This is the highest amount of money you can get, but you have to go through the entire game to get this.

Now to get the ultimate weapons to their most powerful forms, the EX forms, you'll need three things. The base weapon, the Ultimate Ingredient, and an Empty Cough Drop Tin (Seemingly the modern day version of a Rat's Tail from Final Fantasy). The Ultimate Ingredient is the penultimate weapon of that line; half of those are found as a bonus prize in the Sotenbori Battle Dungeon. The others are obtained from minigame store (Along with the base weapon!)...but most of those are just so out of the way to farm that you should wait until you return to Kamurocho so you can buy them from le Marche...for ten million. Each.Honestly, some of those Ultimate Ingredients are much easier to buy from le Marche than to farm the points.

The Empty Cough Drop Tin drops in a few places. You'll get one from defeating members of the Tojo Clan, there's a few in the Sotenbori Battle Arena, and you'll get one at the end of the Post Game Dungeon.

Now, on to the first class!
III: Freelancer (Ichiban's Exclusive I)

If this was the original style of gameplay, this would be what you would be doing 24/7.

WEAPON: None
UNIQUE ACCESSORY: Dragonfish Tenugui
BOOSTS: Attack, Agility

The first job that Ichiban gets, and the only one that the game forces you to swap off once you get into Chapter 4. It is considered to be the worst job in the game because of the low stats and having access to no weapons. There are fisticuffs weapons, but they aren't for him. He just refuses to use them. Weirdo.

You are swapped back to this job two times; at the start of Chapter 6, and during the true final battle. And during the latter, the game gives you all of the skills for the job regardless if you unlocked them or not.

It does have some decent use, but it's horribly outclassed in terms of damage and utility. It just does blunt damage, and to one target.

CHARACTER SKILLS:

+ Hyper Swagger (2 Turns Evasion and Attack Boost): Chances are that you won't get this by the time the game auto-swaps you to Hero. Is it worth it? No, you'll get Fearless Command soon, and that's party-wide.

+ Release German Suplex (Chance of Insta-Kill): Decent, but chances are that you'll only get this by the end of the game, if not post-game.

NOTES:

+ Get this job to Rank 30 before starting a New Game Plus on Legend. You start out any New Game Plus with this job and without any of your other job skills, so get it up, unless you want to the first three chapters last three hours...each.
IV: Hero (Ichiban's Exclusive II)

Don't hold out, do you want to be a hero?

WEAPON: Bat
ULTIMATE WEAPON: Legendary Hero Bat
(Base: When you first get the Hero job. Ultimate Ingredient: Sotenbori Battle Arena 30F)
UNIQUE ACCESSORY: Dragonfish Tenugui (Gold Safe in Lullaby Mahjong in Kamurocho)
BOOSTS: HP & Defense

This is a game all about Dragon Quest, and this is the class that best encapsulates the Hero of the Dragon Quest games. Having access to heals, lightning attacks (Okay, the best weapon does electricity damage. That counts!) and good single-target damage just like the Heroes. (At least from 3 onwards. Did you know that the Hero of 2 doesn't have any magic?) He does have the same issue that Heroes have by having lower Speed, and sadly lacks the defensive spells.

This is the best job for Ichiban by a long shot. It solves so many problems at once.

CHARACTER SKILLS:

+ Peerless Resolve (Provides Guts effect, prevents death): Dragon Quest isn't the only RPG mashed into this game. This game borrows Shin Megami Tensei's habit of giving a Game Over on Ichiban's death. This game might be easy, but this is a good thing to have! Even more so on the other difficulties.

+ Indomitable Courage (Heals all status effects for entire party, chances improve with higher Charisma): Really good to have! Only downside is that most status effects can be ignored, don't trigger, nor do they really hit the entire party. Good to have if they do the latter mind you.

NOTES:

+ A lot of these skills are based around spells from the Dragon Quest series. Hero's Vigor having a 50% chance of reviving is the same as the Zing spell. Essence of Bonecrunching Bat and Essence of Full Swing can be considered the equivalent of Gigaslash and Gigagash. Hero's Compassion and Hero's Embrace are equal to Multiheal and Omniheal. While not exclusive to Hero, Essence of Orbital Laser can be considered to be the same as Kazap/Kazapple (Minus drawing MP from the rest of the party)
V: Homeless Guy (Nanaba's Exclusive)

Spare damage, ma'am? Spare damage?

WEAPON: Cane/Umbrella
ULTIMATE WEAPON: Amenohoakari no Mikoto
(Base Weapon: Buy Rugged Cane at Love Magic. Ultimate Ingredient: Sotenbori Battle Dungeon 25F)
UNIQUE ACCESSORY: Old Fountain Pen (Substory 18: Home Run Heroism)
BOOSTS: MP & Magic

This job restores MP with regular attacks.

Nanaba's base job starts out weak, but after getting some good weapons, he'll be hitting real hard with magic. Still very fragile, the weak homeless enemies at the start of the game can two shot him on Legend. It does have some good debuffs on it, real essential for harder difficulties playthroughs.

The real problem with this class is that it ends up falling short to Host. The two Character Skills you pick up are the best versions of their line, which means you can carry them over to the other jobs. The exclusive skills to Homeless Guy aren't really that great. The Pigeon skills are awesome and are Neutral-Elemental, but there's really little need for that. Host outright has a Magic-boosting skill, which means it can take Nanaba's already great magic damage even higher.

CHARACTER SKILLS:

+ Pyro Breath (Targets one enemy and nearby enemies, deal Fire Damage and can burn) : Decent, but getting Megaton Throw is better. Plus, the Foreman's stat boosts greatly benefit Nanaba.

+ Malodorous Stench (Lowers Attack and Defense of all enemies): Really handy! Even more so on New Game +, where this is the only debuff you will have. If only he could stay alive long enough to use this.
VI: Detective (Adachi's Exclusive)

I guess it was Adachi in the Bar with the billy-club!

WEAPON: Clubs
ULTIMATE WEAPON: Chromium Alloy Club
(Base Weapon: Find the Carbon Police Baton in the Yokohama Underground. Ultimate Ingredient: Sotenbori Battle Dungeon 20F)
UNIQUE ACCESSORY: Vintage Notebook (Secret Shop at end of Sunrise Street)
BOOSTS: HP & Defense

The tank role, and much like Homeless Guy to Host, this one falls short to Enforcer. Detective is kinda mediocre in that regard. Tanking isn't that useful in this game; while Adachi does have a skill to draw fire to him, it has hardly worked in my favor. In my first playthrough, I did get some use out of his Counter...but I hard use it now, even on repeat playthroughs. On Legend, it can help protect Nanaba during the early chapters before you re-unlock Hello Job, but it can mean that Adachi dies instead.

It also has an unique angle of a skill that specifically targets only two people. Body Stacking will most likely be obtained after you learn the All-Enemy Hell's Wheel, leaving Body Stacking only useful when you have exactly two enemies to deal with.

CHARACTER SKILLS:

+ Slick Tongue (Chance to Enrage all enemies): This works better with Enforcer's higher Defense. If it works period. I once enraged one enemy...out of five.

+ Grand Helmsplitter (Damage one enemy with the chance to Stun, chance increases with Higher HP): Good, even better if you get the Chef's Vanquishing Pan skill!
VII: Barmaid (Saeko's Exclusive)

Drinks are on the next chump that attack us.

WEAPON: Purses
ULTIMATE WEAPON: Jeweled Bag
(Base Weapon: Buy Casual Bag at Hustle Boutique . Ultimate Ingredient: Sotenbori Battle Dungeon 15F)
UNIQUE ACCESSORY: Mysterious Blush (Substory 19: Bubble, Bubble Toil, and Trouble)
BOOSTS: MP & Magic

Continuing the trend, but this one is the far weakest option for Saeko. Focusing on debuffs and buffing herself, this one ends up being an easy contender for 'Worst Job' in the game. She's magically inclined and this job is mostly physical. It does learn a fire skill...with a better option available in the Night Queen job. Essence of Powerpuff Press is supposed to activate a debuff, but I never gotten one to work.

None of the skills really do stand out when compared to other jobs. Perhaps that's the reason as to why you unlock Hello Job not too long after you get her? I would call it the Worst Job...but there is that one...

CHARACTER SKILLS:

+ Beautician’s Finesse (Defense buff for self): Sexy Pose is a better option. After all, debuffing the enemy's attack is the same as buffing your defense.

+ Yoga Meditation (Self heal, removes Burn and Bleed): Somewhat handy, if you're suffering. But most people just spam the Idol's healing abilities.

NOTES:

+ The girls get half the jobs the guys do...but they make up for it by getting better stat gains. Plus, less grind.
VIII: Hitman (Joon-gi's Exclusive)

It's not a trash bag. Even if it's easier to find than the Psuedotrash.

WEAPON: Fisticuffs
ULTIMATE WEAPON: Darksilver Fists
(Base Weapon: Buy Inlaid Gloves at Chinatown Casino. Ultimate Ingredient: Sotenbori Battle Dungeon 10F)
UNIQUE ACCESSORY: Bullet of Memory (Substory 25: A Fading Star, Gold Safe on top of Serena)
BOOSTS: Agility & Dexterity

Unlike the past few jobs, Hitman is really one Joon-gi's better jobs. The only non-DLC class to focus on Bullet damage, combined with the Blade and Blunt skills, it really allows Han to focus hard on hitting hard and as soon as possible. Giving Joon-gi some crit-boosting equipment turns him into a monster of damage...even more so with Rapid Shots.

Really doesn't have much issues outside of low defenses. And he learns an Evasion boosting skill to help with that.

CHARACTER SKILLS:

+ Rapid Shot (Targets one enemy with Bullet damage): This thing murders Invested Vagabounds. Doesn't do that much damage, but it has the highest hit count in the game. Diabolic Wristbands make this skill do some real raw damage!

+ Phantom Shift (Boosts Accuracy and Evasion for self): Handy! Even more on New Game +, where enemies can actually dodge...unless you use magic or Kiwami skills. Those always hit.
IX: Gangster (Zhao's Exclusive)

Ironically, he cannot cook Italian.

WEAPON: Dao Swords
ULTIMATE WEAPON: Curved Crystal Saber
(Base Weapon: Buy Master's Saber at Kai Xin Specialty. Ultimate Ingredient: Sotenbori Battle Dungeon 5F)
UNIQUE ACCESSORY: Worldly Cigar (Secret Shop at end of Sunrise Street)
BOOSTS: Attack & MP

A decent job, only really falling flat to Chef. Zhao does have some Magical talent (I believe he's fourth best magic user, with Nanaba, Saeko and Ichiban higher than him) and this job doesn't have any magical or elemental skills. Does improve once you get the Character skills that will give you those things!

But honestly? It doesn't really stand out for me. Good for some things, but not really out-standing. The stats boosts are great to work up to though. The Essence of Ladder Acrobatics does have a chance of insta-death, and trust me...you'll need that to get through New Game +.

Character Skills:

+ Shell Shatter (Damage one enemy, chance to lower Defense): Other character have access to guaranteed Defense lowering skills, and Nanaba gets one that hits all enemies and lowers their Attack at the same time. You'll use this all of once.

+ Drunken Tiger Fist (Damage one enemy, higher critical chance if drunk): You'll either need an item (Kakubin is a good option) or the Host's Secret Cocktail to take advantage of this skill.

X: Clerk (Eri's Exclusive)

You have an ass-beating at 4:30. Then dinner at 7.

WEAPON: Boxcutters/Rulers
ULTIMATE WEAPON: Super High Frequency Ruler
(Base Weapon: Buy Anti-corrosion Boxcutter at Gambling Hall. Ultimate Ingredient: Reach Executive Rank at Part-Time Hero and visit Hiro-San)
UNIQUE ACCESSORY: Maiden's Perfume (Casino)
BOOSTS: Attack & MP

Ninja! Eri's Clerk job is like a ninja; fast and hits hard, but not really one for taking damage. Good thing she's got skills to dodge and make the enemies' job of hitting her hard. She's actually faster than Joon-gii, and Thumbstack Scatter is your friend to clear out waves quickly.

My only grip is that of status effects. It might just be me, but status effects never seemingly come in handy for me in any RPG save for when the game requires you to do so. (Like how in the Epic Battle Fantasy games, if you want to get through bosses you'll need to poison them, or that one secret boss in Shadow Hearts: From the New World that requires a specific status effect to kill)

Boost her Attack and she'll start murdering everyone. Even more so if you pick up the DLC and get that skill...

CHARACTER SKILLS:

+ Healing Vibrations (Heal self): Okay? She does need it, given her low durability, but honestly, her turn might be better spent doing damage or debuffing. Unless she's in immediate danger, you'll probably won't use this skill.

+ Shadow Stitch (Targets one enemy, chance of lowering Evasion): Pales in comparison to other skills in terms of damage and debuffing, but when she's doing a different job, it can be a god-send. Better Blade skill than what the boys get.

NOTES:

+ To unlock Eri, you just need to complete the first segment of the Business story. You can do that as soon as you unlock the Business! This does break the game during a segment where the story was designed to only have three party members...
XI: Foreman (Male)

Work hard, play hard.

WEAPON: Hammers
ULTIMATE WEAPON: Heaven and Earth Hammer
(Base Weapon: Buy Rusted Hammer at Batting Cages. Ultimate Ingredient: Buy Starcrusher Hammer at Batting Cages)
UNIQUE ACCESSORY: Chief's Towel (Substory 37: Ringleader Roundup: Bear Blues)
BOOSTS: HP & MP

REQUIREMENTS:

+ Ichiban: Lvl.1, Charisma Lvl.3
+ Nanaba: Lvl.25, Bond Lvl.5
+ Adachi: Lvl.1
+ Joon-gii: Lvl.20, Bond Lvl.3
+ Zhao: Lvl.20, Bond Lvl.4

Someone once said that this job is equivalent to the Warrior of Dragon Quest...but the Warriors of Dragon Quest don't get access to spells...let alone get any MP. Foreman gets both. They still have a low MP though.

Two of the skills are 'Charge' based, meaning they take a turn before the attack actually happens. Joon-Gii and Zhao do have these as well, but I waited for here to bring them up. Foreman's Boss Hammer and Master Hammer skills are like this, and they are COMPLETELY replaced by Upswing Hammer, because it just does the attack without wasting a turn. Charge based attacks aren't worth it here.

This job is decent, but Blunt based damage does tend to fall off mid-game. It's way too common, and there are far more enemies that resist blunt than ones that don't. It is sturdy and the stat boosts are so worth it, so it does fare better than some of the other jobs.

CHARACTER SKILLS:

+ Ocular Assessment (Boost accuracy for self): Enemies don't frequently dodge, at least on the first playthrough. They do more often on harder modes, but again. Magic and Kiwami skills always hit.

+ Megaton Throw (Fire magic damage to enemy area): Now that we have gotten away from the exclusive jobs, we finally got our first important skill...real shame that it's so far down the line that you probably won't get it until you reach Sotenbori...or the final chapter. Still essential! Fire damage is the most common of the elements, but having it available to all of the guys is good. There's a certain dog that doesn't like to play with fire...

NOTES:

+ Starcrusher requires 30k points at the Batting Cages, the most expensive item there. Unlocking the Homerun Competition by completing the first three Homerun Courses can help with that...but if you don't like the Batting Cages like me, you might just want to get the Starcrusher at le Marche.

+ Taking this job for Ichiban unlocks an unique ability to smash things in the overworld. This can unlock some secret shops; one on the backside of the Bar District, one past Hanako's building, and one hidden away in the deep parts of Chinatown. It can also break down some barricades in the Yokohama and Kamurocho Dungeons. Even if you have no plans on keeping with Foreman, just take the job to get this ability. This is how you get Gold Keys, get some of the job accessories, get through the Yokohama and Kamurocho Dungeons, and complete some of the Part-Time Hero Requests.
XII: Bodyguard (Male)

While you were busy partying...I was busy sucking at the blade.

WEAPON: Katana
ULTIMATE WEAPON: Demon Blade Muramasa
(Base Weapon: Shogi Store/Substory 21: Dumpster of Demise Shiny Black Object. Ultimate Ingredient: Tojo Clan Pin Shop)
UNIQUE ACCESSORY: Swordsman's Sash (Substory 34: Bros Till the End)
BOOSTS: Attack & Dexterity

REQUIREMENTS:

+ Ichiban: Lvl.1
+ Nanaba: Lvl.15
+ Adachi: Lvl.1
+ Joon-gii: Lvl.1
+ Zhao: Lvl.20, Bond Lvl.3

This job sucks.

Oh, yeah, I should go into detail. Considered to be the weakest job in the game, Bodyguard is considered to be equivalent to either Dragon Quest's Gladiator or Final Fantasy's Dark Knight. This job does damage at the expense of your own HP. While the HP loss isn't that big of a deal in the long run, the lack of real good damage compared to the other jobs makes the recoil more of an issue.

This job has no blunt skills, a rarity. But it doesn't get many skills that do real good damage. Skills usually come in Light, Medium, Heavy, and Extreme damage. This class only gets one Heavy and one Extreme damage skill. Mostly just a bunch of Mediums. It's also a class that doesn't get any AOE skills, further weakening it.

It does have a skill that works like Hatchet Man from Dragon Quest: low chance of hit, but a critical hit if it does. Real good against Invested Vagabounds, but you got better options to kill them. More reliable too.

Man, they gave the job that uses a katana no allowance, huh? (Maybe that's the reason why most of the guys don't need much to take this job?

CHARACTER SKILLS:

+ Berserker Spirit (Attack boost for self, one turn only): In other games, like Shadow Hearts, a skill like this would combo with attack boosts by being separate from those. But this one is just an Attack boost that lasts all of one turn. It can overwrite any other Attack boosts you might have, removing them upon the next turn. Only use if you don't have any other attack boosts!

+ Diehard Skewer (Attack one enemy, take recoil. Damage increases with lower HP): The only Blade skill that all guys get, outside of DLC. All of the recoil skills for Bodyguard do deal higher damage with less HP, so that's why most of them are Medium damage. But it's still not that high, and is far too risky to use on New Game +. Enemies on Legend can potentially two-shot Adachi. Do you really want to use this?

NOTES:

+ Sakura Storm can be bought from Kamuolop for 50 of the Tojo Clan Pin...but there are two better things in that store that become available after you return from Sotenbori. Given that this job doesn't do that much, better get those two things and buy Sakura Storm from le Marche. Unless you feel like farming pins from yakuzas all day.
XIII: Enforcer (Male)

Captain America, Goofy, Mash Kyrielight, and Athena stand proud.

WEAPON: Shield & Baton
ULTIMATE WEAPON: Special Ops Riot Shield
(Base Weapon: Buy Bulletproof Shield at Gambling Hall/Silver Safe in Geomijul HQ. Ultimate Ingredient: Shogi Shop)
UNIQUE ACCESSORY: Medal of Honor (Substory 38: Ringleader Roundup: Tiger Takeover)
BOOSTS: HP & Defense

REQUIREMENTS:

+ Ichiban: Lvl. 20, Confidence Lvl.7
+ Nanaba: Lvl. 26, Bond Lvl.4
+ Adachi: Lvl.15
+ Joon-gii: Lvl.15, Bond Lvl.2
+ Zhao: Lvl.25, Bond Lvl.5

This job has no little right to be so dang good. Boosting high Attack, Defense and HP and some real good skills, this is the evolution of Adachi's Detective job, which is why a lot of people spec him into it. (He can access it as soon as possible!) The only downside is the low Agility and the fact that this job has little weapons to it.

Paralysis Prongs must be broken. While it doesn't work against non-human opponents and those immune to grabs (Like the Invested Vagrants) it does some real serious damage. Expensive early-game, but so worth it. The tank class does more damage than the class that has recoil damage. It's also got AOE skills! Why use Bodyguard? Outside of the fact that Enforcer's weapons are hard to get ahold of...

...Enforcer! It can SURVIVE battles. It can WIN battles.

CHARACTER SKILLS:

+ Shield Blast (AOE attack): Really handy! It's got a bigger hitbox than other familiar AOE skills. And if you're playing as a job that lacks an AOE, then hey!

+ Power Lift (Attack single enemy, chance of Enrage): Decent. IF ONLY ENRAGE WOULD TRIGGER. IF ONLY.

NOTES:

+ Unless you're really good at Shogi, you're not getting the Absolute Shield. Puzzle Shogi doesn't give you enough points to get it. Hello le Marche, why are you selling military grade hardware?
XIV: Breaker (Male)

Outdated clothing, outdated dance moves. Might as well wear a medallion with the words Y2K on it.

WEAPON: Anklets
ULTIMATE WEAPON: Soul Anklet
(Base Weapon: Buy Red Anklet at Batting Cages. Ultimate Ingredient: Sotenbori 22F)
UNIQUE ACCESSORY: Def Boom Box (Substory 30: Fauxno Michio)
BOOSTS: Attack & Agility

REQUIREMENTS:

+ Ichiban: Lvl.1
+ Nanaba: Lvl.1
+ Adachi: Lvl.15, Bond Lvl.2
+ Joon-gii: Lvl.15
+ Zhao: Lvl.15, Bond Lvl.2

This job is considered to be one of the better ones early game. It is great, but it does lose some momentum once you get stronger and unlock other jobs. Being a job with only Blunt attacks and some awkward AOE will do that. Windmill is pretty good for clearing out waves, but Spin Sweeper is just impossible to hit more than one target.

At the end of the day, there is that issue of the main gimmick of Breaker. The majority of the skills have a 'chance' of buffing you. You could get the buffs, or you couldn't. In late-game/post-game/New Game +, you want buffs, not a chance of getting buffs. The stat boosts are great and this class does have good stats, but the skills do keep this class from being outstanding.

CHARACTER SKILLS:

+ Atlas Hold (Attack one enemy, chance of boosting Defense): Okay.

+ Double Hatchet (Attack one enemy, chance of boosting Magic): This is one of three skills that can boost Magic, and chances are that this one won't be used. If you're a Host, you have a skill that is a gurantted boost. If you're a physical fighter, you are going to use physical skills. And if you're a magic attacker...you might use this. And even then, it still has a chance of activating...
XV: Musician (Male)

Sing me a song, you're the pain man.

WEAPON: Guitars
ULTIMATE WEAPON: The Symphonic
(Base Weapon: Buy Vintage Guitar at Can Quest. Ultimate Ingredient: Sotenbori Battle Arena 20F)
UNIQUE ACCESSORY: Weathered Music Score (Casino)
BOOSTS: MP & Dexterity

REQUIREMENTS:

+ Ichiban: Lvl.15, Kindness Lvl.5
+ Nanaba: Lvl.1
+ Adachi: Lvl.20, Bond Lvl.3
+ Joon-gii: Lvl.20, Bond Lvl.4
+ Zhao: Lvl.1

This class is a bit un-sung. Pun fully intended. This class focuses on buffing and debuffing, which would you think that this would be amazing for harder modes. But people don't really talk about this job. And the more I think about it, none of the guys really fit into this class. Ichiban has a stronger Attack buff on Hero, Nanaba gets an Attack/Defense debuff that's universal, and the other three are better for doing damage. The real big issue is that the debuffs and buffs are small.

I should mention Voltage. It's a mechanic that doesn't get much notice because it has a chance to get some when you use songs, and only two skills can use it. It takes too long to really build up and then use.

I have been picking out characters that are best suited for the job for the images, but I just threw Han in there to make sure that he has an image. Really, Nanaba or Adachi are probably good for this role, with Nanaba playing more of a support role and Adachi using his durability to doll out help.

CHARACTER SKILLS:

+ Endless Desire (Give HP Regen to entire party): The guys don't get much in the way of healing skills. Ichiban gets two only if he's in a specific job and Nanaba gets two that are universal to him. The Host line gives you a skill that heals only the user. Endless Desire's regen is actually really good! If you got Defense buffs/debuffed Enemy Attack and you can reliably Perfect Guard, this skill allows you to keep on fighting and worry less about healing.

+ Be My Shelter (Steal MP from enemy): I never used this. Should. Really should. Tauriners end being more reliable in terms of recovering MP though. That's probably why I don't use this skill.
XVI: Chef (Male)

Main dish of damage, side order of OH DEAR GOD IM BLEEDING OUT

WEAPON: Chef Tools
ULTIMATE WEAPON: Scorching Spatula
(Base Weapon: Buy Wooden Flippers at Dragon Kart. Ultimate Ingredient: Dragon Kart/Sotenbori Battle Arena 10F)
UNIQUE ACCESSORY: Court Tongs (Substory 31: Like Father, Like Son)
BOOSTS: Magic & Agility

REQUIREMENT:

Ichiban: Lvl.15, Passion Lvl.5
Nanaba: Lvl.15, Bond Lvl.2
Adachi: Lvl.25, Bond Lvl.4
Joon-gii: Lvl.25, Bond Lvl.4
Zhao: Lvl.1

The Red Mage of the jobs. Or Armamentalist, keeping in line with Dragon Quest. But this one actually has some variety! Blunt, blade, AOE, and fire! This class just does damage and that's really good! It does lack support skills...and healing. I originally thought this class would be able to whip up some food in the middle of the battle. Would that have helped?

Bleeding and Burning are status effects I can get to trigger, so this is a reliable way to get damage going. The downside is that the Pan skills require stun to ramp up the damage, which is harder to active and only available to the final non-Kiwami skill of this class. Oh well! The better combo is to Bleed and then use Wound Opener. And unlike how Stun is removed by a hit, Bleed doesn't do that. You can do Wound Opener again, and again, and again!

The downside is that the two skills you keep are Blunt ones. But the first one...ooh...the first one?

CHARACTER SKILLS:

+ Peppermill Blow (Attack one enemy, chance of lowering Accuracy): You're not using this for the debuff. No. You're using this for the damage.

+ Vanquishing Pan (Attack one enemy, higher damage against Stunned enemies): If you can get them stunned, then yes. If not...eh.

NOTES:

+ Damascus Ladle is actually easy to obtain. Probably the easiest out of the non-default jobs, given that it's actually fairly affordable in the Dragon Kart store...which is you can get it from Sotenbori Battle Arena. The ONE that's actually affordable in the mini-game store...
XVII: Host (Male)

...so the homeless guy who bathes in the garbage river is the best guy to be the charming host, huh?

WEAPON: Champagne Bottles
ULTIMATE WEAPON: Snow Sapphire Wine
(Base Weapon: Buy Table Sparkling at Gambling Hall. Ultimate Ingredient: Sotenbori Battle Arena 15F)
UNIQUE ACCESSORY: Fancy Business Card (Secret Shop at end of Sunrise Street)
BOOSTS: Magic & Healing

This job restores MP with regular attacks.

REQUIREMENTS:

+ Ichiban: Lvl.1, Style Lvl.3
+ Nanaba: Lvl.20, Bond Lvl.4
+ Adachi: Lvl.20, Bond Lvl.4
+ Joon-gii: Lvl.1
+ Zhao: Lvl.15

The Black Mage, or just Mage if you're sticking with Dragon Quest references, of the game. And while it is an 'early' job, it is one that I can use all the way through the game. Having access to Fire and Ice skills that can reliably activate some status effects and having them as AOE makes this job reliable once you unlock the latter magic skills.

Coercive Shout is the one true and useful Magic boost in the game, and once you unlock the Fortuneteller's Fulminating Forecast, this class really does shine. It might not be the most durable, but as magic damage cannot be avoided and there's only one enemy that resists magic (The true final secret boss) this becomes an end-game job for your magic-caster.

CHARACTER SKILLS:

+ Ice Spreader (Ice magic damage to enemy area): It only LOOKS weak, but it does more damage than you think. There's a good amount of enemies weak to Ice, including a tiger and dragon!

+ Secret Cocktail (Self heal, chance of getting Drunk): Nanba doesn't need this as he has a slightly cheaper skill that doesn't get him drunk, but it can be somewhat handy. Zhao gets more mileage out of this due to having a skill that improves when he's drunk.
XVIII: Fortuneteller (Male)

I see...a job...with one good skill. But it's a really good one!

WEAPON: Orbs
ULTIMATE WEAPON: Diamond Orbaculum
(Base Weapon: Buy Stone Orb at Gambling Hall. Ultimate Ingredient: Gambling Hall)
UNIQUE ACCESSORY: Dice of Disaster (Secret Shop at end of Sunrise Street)
BOOSTS: Magic & Healing

This job restores MP with regular attacks.

REQUIREMENTS:

+ Ichiban: Lvl.20, Intellect Lvl.7
+ Nanaba: Lvl.20, Bond Lvl.3
+ Adachi: Lvl.25, Bond Lvl.5
+ Joon-gii: Lvl.25, Bond Lvl.5
+ Zhao: Lvl.20, Bond Lvl.4

The 'Sage' of the game. Sages in both Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy are supposed to be a mix of Clerics & Mage/White & Black Mages. Fortuneteller does this...somewhat. It primarily focuses more on status effects, and in case I haven't been clear about it, I really do not care for. Rather just kill the enemy than to play with them, which works well on the first playthrough. And most bosses are immune to most status effects too, especially to the ones that Fortuneteller brings to the forefront.

The Essence of Spirit Bonding...can lead to a Game Over if you use it with Ichiban. It lowers your HP to 1 upon use, which means that unless you activate Ichiban's Guts skill beforehand, you'll just put him in severe danger. And yet he's the best person to theoretically use this; as he can revive three people. The other guys can only revive two at most. This is the only skill that 'heals'.

But have no fear! The best skill that Fortuneteller has is a Character Skill, and it's the one of the game's best! Fulminating Forecast. Magic Electricity that targets one enemy, and then two random ones. It has unlimited range because of this. It is expensive to cast (More expensive than the two Kiwami skills!) but it is so worth it! Every guy should have this.

CHARACTER SKILLS:

+ Soul Tether (Revives KOed ally): A lot of people say that Nanaba is good in this class...but he gets a skill just like this. And the final Kiwami skill you'll get for the Fortuneteller is single-target and neutral, meaning it's weaker than Homeless Guy's Pigeon skills. It's good for the other guys to have thought (Even more so with how Ichiban's unique revival skill is a coin flip).

+ Fulminating Forecast (Elec Magic damage to one direct enemy, two random ones.) Get it. I cannot stress how useful this skill is. Everyone should use this! (The girls don't get any Elec skills.)

NOTES:

+ Essence of Spirit Bonding is familiar to a Dragon Quest spell called Kerplunk. It outright kills the caster to revive everyone in the party. Equally as unwieldy.

+ Getting the tags to afford the Ultimate Ingredient, the Pure Gold Ball, might take too long. You have to play Koi-Koi a lot, and that means having to deal with the rubberbanding AI. I also noticed that it costs ten million yen to outright the tags to afford it too...so either way, you're spending ten million for this.
XIX: Hostess (Female)

Try as you want, you ain't no obatarian.

WEAPON: Makeup Pouches
ULTIMATE WEAPON: Shining Pouch
(Base Weapon: Find Cotton Pouch in Yokohama Underground. Ultimate Ingredient: Can Quest)
UNIQUE ACCESSORY: Magic Lighter (Part Time Hero Support: Vegetable Delivery 4)
BOOSTS: MP & Magic

This job restores MP with regular attacks.

REQUIREMENTS:

+ Saeko: Lvl.1
+ Eri: Lvl.20, Bond Lvl.2

The Black Mage for the girls, and the only job that the two sexes kinda share. While the male Host focuses on AOE, the female Hostess focuses more on single-target. This does lead Hostess to be less useful in the latter parts of the game. Then again, this is the only real Magic job the girls have. Only the Night Queen job has a Magic skill...and that's a Character Skill!

It's hard to talk about Hostess as I have rarely used it. It can be a good job for Saeko early on if you want her to do some damage. While you can get the penultimate weapon from Can Quest (Literally the first one you can get), but you need to spend the points for Part-Time Hero. Can Quest is the only place to get your hands on the Tissues, the microwave and the TV. Plus it's much easier to get the insects you need from here as well.

But then again, this job does have a really good Character Skill!

CHARACTER SKILLS:

+ Sexy Pose (Lowers Defense of a single enemy, chance to Charm): Amazing useful! You cannot charm bosses, but makes them much easier to take down.

+ Ice Spreader (Ice magic damage to single target.) Same name, but different execution. This one only hits one target and can be improved with a proper Timed command. Really handy!

NOTES:

+ Hahahaha, ain't no way you're getting the Elegant Pouch from Can Quest. Even if you do perfectly and get all of the milestones, you won't even be halfway there. Getting 1k cans from the hardest mission earns you 15k points. You will have to play through the hardest mission 33 times while getting over 1k points to afford the Pouch. Given that this is the weakest of the female jobs, you can wait for le Marche. And hey, le Marche would be selling something like this.

+ This is the only job whose unique accessory can only be gotten once. Part Time Hero doesn't refresh on New Game +, meaning you cannot get a second Magic Lighter outside of modifying the save file.
XX: Idol (Female)

As a side note, did you guys know that most popular mods for most of the games is playable Haruka? Weird, it's like people want her to throw a damn punch or something.

WEAPON: Microphone/Wands
ULTIMATE WEAPON: Celestial Microphone
(Base Weapon: Buy Pretty Microphone at Dragon Kart. Ultimate Ingredient: Sotenbori Battle Arena 24F)
UNIQUE ACCESSORY: Dreamy Signature (Secret Shop at end of Sunrise Street)
BOOSTS: Healing & Defense

This job restores MP with regular attacks.

REQUIREMENTS:

+ Saeko: Lvl.15
+ Eri: Lvl.1

The White Mage/Cleric of the game. Practically a requirement on harder modes. This is widely considered to be Saeko's true job, and you can access this job as soon as you get access to Hello Work for both girls. It is a pretty straight forward job in terms of use. You do learn two healing skills back-to-back, the Character Skill that heals one person and then an AOE heal!

Lovedrunk Typhoon is an AOE version of Sexy Pose, so great for crowds. It also learns a full-heal revive spell, so this class really does solve a lot of problems. Legitimately, you could keep Saeko in this job from the get-go and you'll be perfectly fine.

CHARACTER SKILLS:

+ Magical Voice (Heal one ally): It's a healing spell! Can you name a game in which a healing spell is bad?

+ Impish Wink (Chance of Brainwashing one enemy): Can be useful.
XXI: Night Queen (Female)

Whip that coming along problem good.

WEAPON: Whips
ULTIMATE WEAPON: Whip of Pleasure
(Base Weapon: Buy Sadistic Whip at Love Magic. Ultimate Ingredient: Sotenbori Battle Arena Lvl.26)
UNIQUE ACCESSORY: Ecstasy Rope (Substory 24: Fifty Shades of Play)
BOOSTS: HP & Attack

REQUIREMENT:

+ Saeko: Lvl.20, Bond Lvl.2
+ Eri: Lvl.25, Bond Lvl.4

A middling job, honestly. This is the Warrior job for the ladies and despite Eri really having good attack, this job kinda ends up being like the Bodyguard. It is a bit better than that, but lacks some impact that I kinda want. It is good, but honestly Clerk just hits harder. The stat boosts are really good for that!

The weird thing is that this job has some things in common with Foreman. They're both physical attackers that learn a magic skill that is a Character Skill. Kinda weird. The biggest issue with this class is that you need insects to upgrade the ultimate weapon. Chances are that you will be using the Electric Whip, the penultimate weapon, before you can properly upgrade the ultimate. The Fortuneteller's ultimate weapon is kinda like that too.

CHARACTER SKILLS:

+ Somersault Leg (Damage one enemy and surrounding enemies. Chance of Brainwash): I never could get hit more than one enemy at a time. It's okay, but Eri has better skills.

+ Candle Rush (Fire magic to one enemy and surrounding enemies. Chance of Burn): What the girls get instead of Megaton Throw. Burn them!
XXII: Dealer (Female)

Here's a deal! DON'T USE THE RUSSIAN ROULETTE SKILL!

WEAPON: Cards
ULTIMATE WEAPON: Fake Ace
(Base Weapon: Buy Tarot Cards at Casino. Ultimate Weapon: Casino)
UNIQUE ACCESSORY: Gambler's Tie (Secret Shop on Sunrise Street)
BOOSTS: Agility & Dexterity

REQUIREMENTS:

+ Saeko: Lvl.25, Bond Lvl.4
+ Eri: Lvl.15

It's like the Jester class from the Dragon Quest series, but without the ability to ascend and be more reliable...somewhat. They lack the Jester's talent of goofing around and instead are just completely random. They still do good damage and actually have a good variety of blunt, blade and bullet. Plus buff and debuffing!

Honestly, this is actually a really good job. Eri fits well into it. It's just that...well, you noticed the flavor texts I have been adding to the images? Well, when I first used the Essence of Russian Roulette, it killed Ichiban. My first Game Over was a result of me trying out my new toy. Ow.

This class does have an unique accessory to it. The Fortune Dice (You get one from a boss, a Rescue Quest, and a Gold Safe in Kamurocho) can generate some better results from the final skill, Essence of Fortune's Wheel. Don't think it stacks though. What does stack is the Darts Artstrike. It fires off three darts that randomly targets enemies, but it can target the same person. So against one person, it can make for some good damage!

CHARACTER SKILLS:

+ Jackpot Chip (Damage one enemy, high chance of critical): Yeah! This is good!

+ Trickster's Top Hat (Damage one enemy, with a chance of Poison, Burn, or Cold): This is considered a Support skill, but it does damage? Weird. Anyway, this is good against bosses, as it can trigger Poison. Not much can trigger Poison, and this works better than Joon-gii's own skill. A boxer can be poisoned...
XXIII: DLC Jobs

For five bucks, you can get the best bullet skill! Totally worth it!

I got this pack for the PS4 version, but not for the Steam version. I'm only going to go over these briefly, as there is not much to talk about here.

For starters, both classes have the least amount of weapons. 3, and that's including their default weapon. You can buy the base weapon of the ultimate weapon from Chau Ka Long (You unlock the shop after completing Substory #36 - Whispers of the Underworld) and unlike the other weapons, do not require an 'Ultimate Ingredient' to transform into their EX form. They just require gold insects and a Empty Cough Drop Tin.

Both classes have the same requirements, save for Ichiban. Bond at Level 5 but doesn't require a high level to get to. Ichiban needs a Confidence of Level 8, the highest Personality he needs for a job. Seeing how you unlock the Substory in Chapter 9, that's probably for the best to wait to get those weapons.

And finally, both classes boost all stats. There's no real focus here. As a result of this, any of the characters can become these Jobs and do decently at them.

UNIQUE ACCESSORY (Which can be gotten in the base game)

+ (Devil Rocker) Doll of Torment (Substory 39: Ringleader Roundup: Chimp Calamity)
+ (Matriarch) Rising Dragon Belt (Secret Store On Sunset Street)

CHARACTER SKILLS:

+ (Devil Rocker) Vampirism (Damage one enemy, heals self): Replaces Secret Cocktail.

+ (Devil Rocker) Toxic Mist (Chance of Poisoning enemies and self): Essentially an AOE of Trickster's Top Hat's best effect. Kinda useful.

+ (Matriarch) Evil Begone (Cleanses Sleep, Stun, Brainwash, and Charm): What a bunch of random status effects.

+ (Matriarch) Bullet of Honor (Damage one enemy with bullets, chance of Bleed): OOOH! LOVE THIS! The main reason to get the DLC.
XXIV: Best Party Setup
Okay, MY setup. But this is how I roll!

ICHIBAN: Hero. Widely agreed upon. Can cover a ton of ground and allows Ichiban to last longer in fights, which is good. Remember, his death is Game Over.

NANBA: Host. Some people will say Fortuneteller, but he is the game's Black Mage and Host is the most Black Mage job. It gives him access to a ton of elemental spells, and access to a Magic-boost...that works 100% of the time!

ADACHI: Enforcer. This allows him to take full advantage of his status as the tank and do plenty of damage. Now, if only Enrage actually worked. Breaker is also a decent option for him to give him some much-needed Agility, but it does lack elements and attack types.

SAEKO: Idol. Healz. All of the Healz you will ever need.

JOO-GI: Assassin. It gives him the most options to work with. Without the DLC, this is the only job that has access to reliable bullet damage. Some also say Enforcer to help shore his poor defenses.

ZHAO: Chef. Obvious, ain't it? He's a Chef, so make him one as well! Elemental damage is always key to victory, and while Chef is locked to only Fire, having the Host and the Fortuneteller's spells allows you take advantage of the Chef's higher Magic stat to do some real raw damage.

ERI: Clerk. High damage, high speed, good AOE, and good debuffs. The other great options is the DLC job of Matriarch , as it allows her to take her great damage even higher!
XXV: Conclusion
Thank you for so much for reading this to the end. Hope you learnt something.

But I do implore this. Spend time and experiment with what jobs you want. This guide is here to help you understand what the jobs do and make sure that you don't end up making mistakes. Like me when I bought things I didn't need! All the time! And not in the game as well! : >

If you have critique of this guide, comments, or anything that I have missed, please comment down below. I'll make sure to edit any mistakes and thank the person who pointed me in the right direction.

As mentioned blow, Saeko is mostly built for magic. But in all due respect, she can really work out as a Dealer. It's mostly physical, but it's abilities do allow Saeko to do some decent damage.

I've played with Saeko as Idol for the last three times I've played the game, and I really wanna do something different this time. Been going with her default job so far. Any idea what the second-best would be?

Cringe:
Saeko is not really built for physical damage (2nd lowest Attack out of all party members). She's mostly built for magical, but Hostess is not that great. But Night Queen does learn a magic spell for all jobs: Candle Rush!

If you look in the skill-list, you can see all of the job's skills ahead of time. Night Queen does learn a healing move, but not a revive. Saeko is best off as an Idol due to her having a high Healing.

But hey! Up to you. Y:LAD is not the hardest game around, so you might not need a dedicated healer. Just focus on getting good healing items.

I have saeko as a night queen, (I'm currently without Nanba, he left) I want to make her an idol when Nanba comes back because I'll need the heals, but the night queen damage is so good. I feel like I really should make her an idol, but like I said, I don't want to. Should I? Or will it be fine to leave her as is and not have a real healer? I saw somewhere that she gains a revive ability as night queen. Is this true? Does she gain any other healing type abilities? Please answer as many questions as you can if you see this.

The DLC jobs are powerful, as expected. But you can beat the game without them, so it comes down to if you want to try something else.

Hey thank's for this guide. do you think hte DLC classes are worth the 5 bucks or nah?
