💋Novels in Baldur's Gate 3: A Guide to Seduction
By Picunda
The seduction technique in Baldur's Gate 3 is much simpler than in real life. All your actions that require a certain reaction to current events can cause approval or condemnation from the one you have your eye on. Different characters may have diametrically opposed attitudes towards your actions, so it is advisable to decide in advance which character in Baldur’s Gate 3 you want to build a relationship with. Below is a short guide with general romance tips.

How to like your partner?
At the moment, you can develop relationships with 10 characters:
  • Astarion
  • Gail
  • Laesel
  • Shadowheart
  • Wyll
  • Karlach
  • Halsin
  • Jaheira
  • Minsc
  • Mintara
😺 Some guys seem impregnable, but you can find your own key for every lock. In Baldur's Gate there are no restrictions in choosing a partner, neither by gender nor by any other factors. Even if your origin and race are in direct conflict with the background of the character you like, there is a chance of success, and a considerable one.

Here are some detailed tips on how to behave with one or another character from your party so that he reciprocates your feelings. You can't fall into polyamory, so choose wisely.
Astarion

  • Approves of: displays of force and cruelty, drama, ambition, alliances with monsters.
Disapproves of: altruism, compromise, weakness, boredom, restraint, condemnation of his problem.
  • Astarion is generally a flirt, and although he seems approachable at first, it will take some effort to truly win him over. Astarion has some problems that we won’t spoil, and the best choice, naturally, would be help and support, even if they backfire a little.
  • This is a character who likes strong, independent individuals who know what they want and are not shy about their means. If you have to team up with some monsters to achieve your goal, he will only support you in this decision. He is characterized by a certain theatricality, and he looks for it in others. He considers kindness a sign of weakness. Don't be trivial and the romance with Astarion is in your pocket.
Gale

  • Approves of: intelligence, magical abilities, pacifism, kindness, poetry.
Disapproves of: violence without reason, stupidity, lack of curiosity, judgment of his problem.
  • Gale is the only character whose relationship improvement seems to be divided into several stages, rather than progressing gradually over the course of the plot. When he likes you enough, the next time he returns to camp he will share his story with you, and your reaction will increase the chances of success.
  • This character is a peace-loving Wizard, and he is a proponent of solutions to problems without unnecessary cruelty. He is attracted to intellectuals who, thanks to their ingenuity, can avoid bloodshed, people who thirst for knowledge and love the art of magic. As in the case of Astarion, things are not going smoothly for Gale either, and you need to be involved in order to earn his trust, after which a romance with Gale will become inevitable.
Lae'zel

  • Approves of: support for the Githyanki race, aggressive approach, success in battle, rational and efficient if you side with her.
Disapproves of: pacifism, disagreement with her, condemnation of the Githyanki race, distraction from the main task.
  • This little devil seems like a tough nut to crack, but you'd be surprised. Yes, it is more difficult to reach her directly, but you just need to agree with everything she suggests. The main thing here is to support her straightforward method, which makes the path to solving the overall problem quite bloody. The Githyanki are pushing ahead, and you will have to too, otherwise you will not see a romance with Lae'zel.
Shadowheart

  • Approves of: cunning and manipulation, condemnation of the Githyanki race, good treatment of animals, children and the poor, immune to deception.
Disapproves of: senseless bloodshed, support for the Githyanki race, humiliation, sympathy for the rich if you succumb to deception and manipulation.
  • It’s a little more complicated, but general trends can be identified. She definitely doesn't like the Githyanki, and Lae'zel in particular, and doesn't feel the need to hide it. So your attraction to this race will not benefit your relationship. As a Priest of the Domain of Deception, she values a nimble mind and the ability to negotiate. She has a soft spot for animals, so don't forget to scratch the dog behind the ear when she's there. Druids and Rangers are lucky in this regard - they will probably be able to romance Shadowheart with ease, given their closeness with nature.
Wyll

  • Approves of: heroism, altruism, helping those in need, fighting evil.
Disapproves of: agreements with enemies, selfishness, righteousness, friendship with Devils and Goblins.
  • Wyll is a classic hero, brave and good-natured, in general, he is for everything good against everything bad. This is exactly what your line of behavior should be if you want him to pay attention to you. Your task is to bring kindness to the masses, punish evil, not enter into dubious alliances (especially with Goblins and Devils - Will has long-standing conflicts with them) and be a moral tuning fork. Yes boring. Hopefully your character's romance with Will will be worth it and there will be a spark there.
Karlach

  • Approves of: treat children and animals kindly, respond to requests for help, show compassion towards tieflings, protect the weak.
Disapproves of: cowardice, goblin and absolute politics support, being cruel to the weak and needy.
  • Karlach is a tiefling girl who is distinguished by incredible cheerfulness and good nature, as well as an immense love for life. She is first mentioned in dialogues with Will, where she appears as a dangerous she-devil. In reality, she turns out to be a warrior with a warm heart and an eternal smile on her face (if treated properly).
  • Like other constant companions, she acts as a potential romantic interest for the protagonist, with whom they can spend their first night together at the refugee festival on the occasion of the liberation of the emerald grove from the oppression of the goblins.
Halsin

  • Halsin is one of the main healers, interactions with whom can completely stop if you side with the followers of the Absolute in implementing plans related to capturing the grove. Initially mentioned in a conversation with tieflings and other people living in the Emerald Grove location, and can subsequently be rescued from imprisonment in the goblin camp.
  • It receives full development in the romantic sense at the time of the second/third act, therefore, in order to start an affair with Halsin, you will have to wait and also fulfill a number of conditions:
    Complete the side quest “Awaken Art Kulakh” and thereby awaken Art Kulakh, struck by a curse, from an eternal nightmare;
    Complete the mission “Remove the Dark Curse” and help Halsin find the missing essence of Thaniel;
Get to the Wyrm's Crossing location and take one or more Long Rests.
Jaheira

  • Jaheira is an elf with an infinitely kind heart and well-developed leadership skills, who has gathered a close-knit team around the Last Light tavern, ready to resist the dark curse. Is a potential companion: can be recruited during the second act of the main story campaign.
  • Has its own history and unique character; Being a druid, she is focused on fighting at medium distances. Provides access to several additional missions that can greatly diversify the time spent inside the game, but is “blocked” for the development of romantic relationships: simply put, it is impossible to have a romance with Jaheira, no matter what efforts the player makes.
Minsc

  • Minsc is a fierce warrior who in the past was a fairly famous traveler: he has many adventures on his account, which he would gladly tell about in a tavern over a glass of good liquor, but fate is cruel, life is unpredictable, and the influence of the Absolute is limitless. First encountered during the third act of the main story campaign, and can only be invited to the group if:
    - recruit Jaheira into the squad;
    - do not use lethal attacks during the duel that will unfold between Minsk and the protagonist during the additional mission of the companion “High Harpist”.
  • Included in the category of characters with whom it is impossible to develop a romantic relationship: similar to Jaheira, having a romance with Minsk will not work, no matter how hard you try.
Mintara

  • For lovers of pursuing women who are not looking for easy ways. Mintara is the only possible romantic interest target (for now) not from your companions, she is an NPC in the Goblin camp, Drow, one of the local cult leaders. In most playthroughs, she will get in your way and you will have to kill her, but if you can get cooperation, you will be lucky with a pretty elf. Algorithm of actions leading to an affair with Mintara (keep in mind, Will will not tolerate this and will say goodbye to you)
  • Visit the Shattered Sanctum in the Goblin camp.
    Talk to Mintara
Offer information about the grove and your participation in the raid with the Goblins
After a successful raid, talk to her in the Grove and choose the dialogue options: “It was an honor to fight alongside you. / Embrace change. / Open your mind.”
There will be a holiday in the camp in honor of the Goblins. Talk to Mintara on it and convince her that you are hers forever.
Go to your sleeping bag and select the Mintara invitation option.

Minthara is a companion. Her romance is quite easy because you either have to kill the tiefling camp in act 1, or KO her (not kill her) and then later on in act 2 rush to Moonrise to save her
