Yakuza 3: Simpler Licensed Music Restoration Patch
By TurboShell and 1 collaborators
The most popular licensed music restoration patch is bloated with slightly higher quality pre-rendered videos and an unnecessary dialogue change in an attempt to remove the reference to a certain characters sexuality. This version of the mod lowers the size by about 6.5gb and only adds in the music changes.

Explanation
The existing Yakuza 3: Licensed Music VIdeo and Uncensor Restoration Patch for this game is extremely bloated, with 7GB of data being taken up mostly by pre-rendered videos. This guide and mod attempts to condense the mod, leaving out all the unnecessary fluff.

Things removed:
  • All replaced pre-rendered videos aside from the intro
    (Quality difference is negligible)
  • The rising sun pins for the Tamashiro family
  • The "retranslated" line near the end of the game
(in actuality it's replacing a line referring to an important character's implied sexuality, changing it into the original PS3 version of the game's line and replacing the word "love" with "idolize", under the guise of accuracy. The original PS3 version of the game is famously poorly translated, so it's clear this decision was motivated more by their beliefs than actual accuracy.)

Things that aren't removed:
  • The licensed song for the intro,
  • The licensed song for a scene near the end of the game,
  • The licensed song for the credits.
Installation
Installation is exactly the same as the the other mod, does not require the mod manager

Download the file from the provided link at the end of the guide. Unzip the file using windows (Right click the file, click "Extract All..." or the equivalent, or just use an unzipping program such as 7zip or WinZIP

Open the Yakuza 3 folder by right clicking the game on steam and selecting "Browse Local Files"

In the downloaded zip folder you should find a folder called data, and in the yakuza 3 folder you should find a folder called data. Simply drag the one from the zip into the game folder (NOT into the data folder inside the game folder) and click the replace files once prompted. That's it! You're ready to play with the intended music.

(Akiyama not included)

If the link ever stops working please comment here and i'll be sure to find an alternative upload. For now enjoy the licensed music, with about 6.5gb less fluff and 100% less homophobia!

yeah unfortunately the weird Akiyama line is the one time I am okay with him fucking with the text because the VA literally says the English word right there (Sega could've just rerecorded those two lines altogether imo if they're as uncomfy with that joke as we are) but oof, m'kay. still, your work here alone is great because otherwise I'd have just rather played without the music lol.

Unfortunately i dont believe its possible for the dragon engine mods or the 0/kiwami/5 mods, and the yakuza 4 mod is already pretty small so the only thing that might need changing is adding back that weird joke akiyama made (it actually IS an accurate translation to the japanese version so i don't think its necessary to make a version without it, even if id rather not have it in the first place)

any possibility you could do something like this for the other games in the series? because the dude being a weirdo aside, all his mods are bloated to hell like this lol.

Thank you for this alternative.

Thanks for this, I downloaded the mod before I played the game and had no idea that the mod actually censored something seemingly out of hate.

Not a dumb question at all! If you would like the higher quality pre-renders just go to the data > mvusm folder in the original mod and copy everything in there into my version of the mod

hi! hope this isnt a dumb question but i still want the ps3 videos just not the translation, do you know where i can take it out of the other music restoration patch or should i just install this one? if it makes the game look a little better i'd like to have it but if the difference is very small should i go out of my way to mess with the other restoration? also thanks for this !

the fact it's passed off as a more "accurate translation" too really rubs me the wrong way

I had someone tell me they didn't understand the characters motivations after playing for the first time with that mod on and i believe the lack of that line might partially play into that, as it explains it pretty well

wow, sincerely thank you for this ... i had no idea this was even a thing in the original mod
