1. If you look at the slot requirements during the upgrade process closely, you might note that the strict listed requirements technically allow a wider range of options than you might expect.
2. You do not need to satisfy all of the Principles that it is looking for. Neither do you actually need to use the same lesson as a result; if your lesson has at least one of the Principles, it will be valid.
3. If the game enforces one lesson, it may not need all of the slots to be filled with lessons. Memory is not unique to lessons.
4. The strictest combination for leveling up any skill is 1 lesson containing at least 1 of any of the Principles required and other Memory containing cards which must also have at least 1 of any of the Principles required.
I noticed a couple routes to memories missing. You get both Memory: Salt and Memory: Solace when swimming at Sea's Edge while using dry towels.
Also had a question if you know the answer. According to the game you can level up languages just like other skills, but I haven't been able to figure out how to gain lessons for them. Do you know if it's actually possible? I've tried paying guests who know them but the game tells me they have nothing to offer me.
