Sawyer Express PHV-90 (Passenger Hovercraft)

설명
Sawyer Express PHV-90

The Sawyer Express is a passenger hovercraft designed for the swift transportation of passengers throughout Sawyer Islands. It is able to fly over land and shallow waters effortlessly, allowing you to transport passengers anywhere.

Four large ducted fans powered by two diesel lift engines help the hovercraft to hover. Some air can also be redirected from the lift fans to the bow thrusters which helps for propulsion and manoeuvring.

For the main propulsion, two large variable pitch propellers powered by two diesel propulsion engines help to propel the hovercraft to speeds of up to 56 knots.

The Sawyer Express has a seating capacity of 90 for passengers along with baggage compartments. The main ramp located at the front of the hovercraft helps facilitate the swift boarding and alightment of passengers.

Features

  • Compatible with Stormlink
  • Can be spawned in medium dock/hangar
  • Able to fly over land and water
  • 56 knots top speed
  • ~470 km fuel range
  • Stowable mast for flying under low bridges/hangar entrances
  • Functional engine drive belts
  • Autopilot & Heading hold
  • 90 passenger seats
  • Engine fire detection and suppression system
  • Highly detailed custom screens
  • High fidelity controls

Custom Screens

There are four main interactive screens with many different video inputs for you to choose to display onto each screen (e.g. radar, weather, CCTV, etc). Screen brightness can also be adjusted and will be synced for all screens.

Even with its complexity, I have designed the user interface to be user friendly and as easy to understand as possible.

High Fidelity Controls

The controls on this creation are designed to be as smooth and realistic as possible, giving you an authentic hovercraft flying experience. All controls are individually operated, giving you full control of the hovercraft. Manoeuvring is done with the use of the propeller pitch, rudders and bow thrusters.

The control system for the bow thrusters has been significantly improved on this hovercraft. Controlling it is done by using the arrow keys. Simply press and hold the arrow key in the direction you desire to point the bow thrusters toward and they will face that direction. Releasing the arrow key will make the bow thruster stop rotating, allowing you to set the bow thrusters to any specific angle while having the ability to reset them to a fixed angle.

Start-up procedure
  1. Go to the relay panel on the left of the cockpit
  2. Turn on battery 1 or 2 then turn on the rest of the power relays (other battery can be used as backup incase of drained battery)
  3. Go to the instrument switch panel in the middle of the cockpit
  4. Turn on cockpit, navigation and "airborne" lights
  5. Turn on monitors and instrument backlight
  6. Go to the engine panel on the right of the cockpit
  7. Turn on engine power (key)
  8. Ensure all clutches are disengaged
  9. Turn on all engines & wait for engines to fully start
  10. Ensure that lift throttle and propeller pitch are at zero
  11. Engage all clutches and wait for them to fully engage
  12. Increase lift throttle to 80-90% to lift off
  13. Increase lift throttle to 100% to power bow thrusters
  14. Increase propeller pitch throttle to move off

Flying The Sawyer Express

Familiarise With The Controls
Before actually flying, I recommend you get into the Captain's seat and take the time to read through and familiarise yourself with the controls. It might seem overwhelming at first glance but it is actually quite simple after you get used to the controls.

Rudders & Propeller Pitch Steering
At low speeds, the rudders will be ineffective as there would not be enough wind hitting it. So steering at low speeds is done using propeller pitch.

At higher speeds, the rudder is used to steer the hovercraft. Do not use propeller pitch to steer at high speeds as it is not effective and will simply cause you to lose speed.

Strafing
The rudders/prop pitch steer the rear of the hovercraft while the bow thrusters steer the front of the hovercraft. Using a combination of the front and rear steering, you are able to turn more quickly or control your strafing speed.

Controlling your strafing speed is very important in hovercrafts for manoeuvring and to avoid crashing. Unlike ships, hovercrafts have nearly zero resistance from the ground/water so they experience much more drift/strafing movement especially when turning.

How To Use The Autopilot
  1. Toggle the "Autopilot/Heading Hold" to "Autopilot mode" (Autopilot will be on "Standby")
  2. Choose one of the main screens to display the GPS map video input via the menu page
  3. In the menu page, select Keypad 1(Engineer's seat) or Keypad 2(Captain's seat) to link the selected keypad to that screen (for inputting waypoint using keypad)
  4. In the GPS map settings, turn on "Sync to Autopilot" to sync the autopilot to that screen's waypoints
  5. Add a waypoint on the map screen (Autopilot will be "Ready")
  6. Activate Autopilot Button (Autopilot will be "Active")
  7. Rudders will be under Autopilot control
  8. Upon reaching <100m to waypoint, waypoint will be cleared
  9. Autopilot will be on "Standby" after clearing all waypoints

Disclaimer

Ensure that infinite electric is turned off, otherwise certain things might not function as intended.

The skirts might get damaged if you traverse from water to land at a high speed but damage on the skirts can be ignored as it does not affect the hovercraft.

Even though it is very stable, I do not recommend flying the hovercraft in strong winds as hovercrafts do not have any traction with the ground/water and make use of aerodynamics to manoeuvre. This naturally causes them to be much more susceptible to wind (compared to ships). Your top speed would also be hindered from the hovercraft hitting the waves.

Closing Notes

Thank you for taking the time to read through the description. I've spent over 1.5 years and 500 game hours on this project alone so I would appreciate it if you would leave a rating and favourite if you like my creation. Any feedback is also welcomed and please report any bugs found.

Please do not re-upload my creation onto the Steam Workshop. You may modify the creation for your personal use.

Paint scheme is from the Solent Express and design is mostly from the BHT-150

Does this have any inspiration from the isle of wight hovercrafts as it follows the same color scheme ?

It works much better now, but i think you screwed up the bow vents somehow, they work fine but the monitor doesn't read their rotation. it might just be a product of being on multiplayer, but might as well check it out

I'll definitely make a military hovercraft in the future but I don't plan on using this model
