Game Crashing FIX

This is a guide to fix your game if it keeps crashing after launch.

This will work for Windows, Steam Deck and Linux.

Windows
To fix the issue in Windows, follow the following steps:

  1. Press the Windows key and R key together

  2. In the 'Run' window that pops up type 'SystemPropertiesAdvanced'

  3. Ensure the selected/active tab (at the top of the window) is 'Advanced'

  4. Click 'Environment Variables'

  5. Under the 'System Variables' field/zone, click 'New'

  6. For the variable name, type
    OPENSSL_ia32cap

  7. For the variable value, type
    ~0x20000000

  8. Click Ok and close the other windows opened in previous steps.

  9. Relaunch the game and the issue is hopefully fixed
Linux (and Steam Deck)
To fix the issue in Linux, follow the following steps:

NOTE: If you need help doing any of the below steps, comment and I will help you.

  1. Navigate to /etc (either in a terminal or a file manager).

  2. Use a text editor to edit a file called 'environment'.

  3. Add the line
    OPENSSL_ia32cap=~0x20000000
    and make sure it is not commented (i.e. no '#' to the left of the line. If there is one, delete it).

  4. Save and exit the file.

  5. Relaunch the game and the issue is hopefully fixed
Troubleshooting
If following the above doesn't work, try the below steps:
  1. Restart Steam, and launch the game.

  2. Restart your computer, and launch the game.

If you followed all the steps above for your operating system, and the game is still crashing, comment below and I will try to help you fix the issue.

The game still doesn’t work for me. When I launch it, I get a black screen, nothing happens, and I can’t see the game menu.

Actually the D3D error is back after reinstalling each time idk whats up with it.
I'm on a gen13 i7 and a 4070

I've done four different fixes and its still crashing on startup :(
-deleting the intro screen files
-updating/replacing gpu drivers
-this fix with the environment variable
-upping TdrDelay and TdrDdiDelay to 60
The D3D error is fixed but it now crashes after hitting Enter on the first screen.
