Introduction
Welcome skinbags.
If you're like me you noticed that Apex community is filled with very original comedy gold guides on how to play certain characters.
Well unlike them i have respect for my boi and decided that required correction.
Thus i present to you, my guide to Revenant. Let us begin with a brief introduction.

So, you have downloaded and installed Apex Legends, you wonder what legend you wanna play as.
Then you see him, the Synthetic Nightmare, aka Edgy Murder Bot, aka Legend with best skins and heirloom in the entire game.

There are many reasons for which Revenant may appeal to you, whether it is his edginess, savagery or pure unadulterated badassery.
Or maybe you're just depressed and want to die like him, take your pick.
Fact is you like him, you like his look, his voice, his kit and his playstyle.
You wanna main him, master him, be the monster, everyone loves a good villain after all.
Perfectly understandable, you've come to the right place.

PSA
First of all lets make one thing crystal clear, you shouldn't rely on someone else's opinion to enjoy things the way you want.
It's likely you will often hear that Revenant is a bad character maybe even among worst, but don't let that stop you.
He is definitely not easiest but it is you who decides how to enjoy yourself.
This of course applies to my guide as well, if it doesn't appeal to you, don't listen to me.
Know this however, by playing Revenant or any other low tier character you automatically gain respect from everyone. I mean how can you not root for the underdog?
So keep that in mind and remember, no one likes a meta hoe, leave that to the Wraith mains.

Now i could spend some time explaining the lore and background of Revenant, but why do that when wiki[apexlegends.fandom.com] has done that already?
So instead, without further ado, let us move on with the guide.
Chapter 1: Revenant's Abilities
Passive - Stalker aka Swiggity Swooty
Stalker - Revenant can crouch walk at increased speed (walk speed) and climb walls significantly higher, faster and better than other legends.

Every Rev main's bread and butter, his most important ability that gives him access to unique movement, priceless utility and fun factor that many players underestimate.
This ability defines the character, if you're a fan of sneaking, flanking and outplaying your enemies, strap in and go nuts.

Crouch Walk
  • Revenant's crouch walk gives him an edge in close quarter combat and allows him to move around stealthily to flank his enemies.
Most players are not accustomed to fighting crouching opponents, that takes them by surprise. Think of it like a fighting game, low tier characters have great success rate, since no one knows the match up.
  • Due to Revenant's huge hitboxes while lacking Fortified perk, this is the general way to fight enemies up close for him.
Crouch (not crouch spam) and circle them or move in different directions to throw them off.
  • Crouch walk hipfire is very effective, especially with SMGs and shotguns.
Use it a lot, but try to not rely on it entirely however, with time your experience will grow and so will your movement skill.

Wall Climb
Revenant's wall climb gives him access to many unorthodox movement options, offensive and defensive alike.
  • Sneak up on someone and flank them? You got it.
  • Reach someone escaping or hiding on the high ground? No problem.
  • Pursued and need to either escape or bait enemies into an ambush?
Climb up to safety to throw them off or drop down when they pass you, you can do it all.
The only limitation is your creativity and poor architecture (looking at you Storm Point).

Tactical - Silence Wench
Silence - Revenant can slingshot an orb out of his hand, dealing 10 damage to anyone he hits and disabling their abilities for 15 seconds.

What can be more satisfying than having an ability that takes away the abilities of others? Revenant's silence evens the playing field against legends with pesky playstyles and forces them to either fight you fair and square, or die. Here's some tips on how to best utilize it:

Tip 1) General Use
  • Silence has 2 charges, covers deceptively large area and momentarily blinds enemies, so don't be afraid to use it whenever you can.
Throw it in general direction of your opponents, on the doors, under yourself when you heal to provide cover, anywhere, whenever you want.
  • If you're being chased, throw silence in front of yourself while weaving from cover to cover to break the line of sight of your pursuers.
Furthermore it can be used while doing other things, be it shooting, healing or throwing grenades. Lots of options for synergy. Silence is your ally, so exploit it to the fullest.

Tip 2) Targets
  • You should silence everyone, BUT target Skirmisher Legends, specifically Wraiths, Octanes, Valks and Horizons. These are most obnoxious legends to deal with due to their problematic movement and get out of jail abilities. Silencing them will make killing them that much easier.
  • Other notable targets are legends with support roles like Lifeline and Rampart.
Lifeline won't be able to heal nor rez her team with her D.O.C. drone if she's silenced.
In Rampart's case, it's mostly to prevent her from using her minigun Sheila, which can easily mow down entire teams in right hands. It's always better to prevent the problem instead of solving it.
  • Lastly if you find yourself struggling in 1v1 scenarios, especially against tankier legends like Gibraltar, Caustic or Newcastle, don't skimp out on your charges. Use both on your opponent, 20 dmg might not seem like a lot but it adds up + visual and audio clutter works in your favor.

Tip 3) Niche Use
  • Silence also serves as an impromptu scan ability as hitting an enemy with it reveals their shield level and approximate position.
  • Silencing enemies applies pressure on them as they lose their full functionality.
As a result they go into a nervous mode since they expect a push or realize that in order to get out, they have to risk repositioning without their precious crutches.
This may prompt them to act rashly and make mistakes.
  • Silenced enemies are covered in red lightning static that emits a noticable sound making it easier to locate them. Also you might make them salty, loss of composure is always a victory.

Ultimate - Death Totem aka Shadows Die Twice
Death Totem - Revenant can place a totem that gives anyone who uses it temporary death protection. Under its effects, you don't receive damage to shields instead at moment of "death" you return to the totem with 50 HP left. If you don't die and protection expires, you are left in your place with whatever amount of HP you have.

Ah, definition of cool on paper, poor in practice.
Revenant's ultimate ability is sadly his weakest selling point.
Thanks to the enlightened balancing of the developers, the Death Totem is one of worst abilities in the game and usually the first thing Apex content creators point out when bashing Revenant.
Nevertheless it can be useful and even dare i say good, if used right and with right people. Here's some tips on how to use it:

Tip 1) What makes Death Totem so bad?
  • If you watch any Revenant players at all (e.g. Guapee and Revengeful), you'll notice they almost never use the totem, focusing instead on core gameplay.
Why you ask? Because Death Totem is a severely flawed ability with cons heavily outweighing the pros of using it. This is why my best advice is to use it rarely.
  • Upon activation, the totem creates a very large and noticable visual cue, a wide fire like ring that sweeps over a large area, similar to Loba's ultimate.
As a cherry on top it also emits a very audible noise alerting everyone in vicinity.
If you play Apex for like a day you'll quickly realize what does this result in.
A big, loud and noticable dinner bell for any team around, and even farther off.

Tip 2) Gotta Go Fast
  • If you're thinking something along the lines of ''Oh well, so what of the cons, other legends have loud and noticable ultimates too. What, you want it to be silent?''. Yes you'd be correct, if not for the double edge of the Death Totem.
  • Upon ''death'' you return to it, with your HP halved. This in conjunction with its main flaws can easily turn the totem into a death trap. Enemies alerted to your presence may rush to your totem and await your return to gun you down, or worse, trap you with their abilities, giving you slow and humiliating end.

  • The tip here is: IF you are going to use the totem, use it as QUICKLY as possible
OR in safe, harder to reach spots with cover to give you a breather when you come back to it.
Also this is a given, but make sure you actually USE the totem when you place it.
Sometimes the adrenaline or rushing can make you forget it.
  • Finally, the best application i have found for Death Totem after all those thousands of hours playing Revenant, my secret sauce so to speak.
It can act as an emergency life bar when you're in the middle of a fight.
Example: if you engage in a fight with a team and manage to say, crack/down someone, but you are cracked/low on shields yourself, DON'T WASTE TIME on recharging yourself.
Instead, use the totem's death protection to create an opportunity to push and go in for more downs/kills, denying your enemies relief.

Tip 3) What's it good for then?
Previous tips were for Death Totem's main solo usage, but probably most useful practical application in its state right now including your team is to use it defensively (i know, an oxymoron) and in synergies.
As flawed and situational as it is, it can be used pretty effectively when under attack and with people who actually know what they're doing (rare).

Defensive Death Totem
  • You can place it in front of doors, thus blocking them from being opened.
Aside from protection it gives you a bit of an opening to rush out and fight back against your attackers.
It can also work as deterrent, a warning that you're about to attack so your enemies may switch to defense, but that's rare.
  • There is one niche additional defensive application, not practical but you'd be surprised how many times it worked out for me.
Totem can be used as bait, fittingly dubbed by me a noob magnet.
If you're aware there are enemies around, place the totem and wait for them to show up.
Like i said, not practical, but hey if they are eager to jump you, they may as well be eager to die trying.
Synergies
  • Death Totem is an ability that shines the brightest when used in synergy with right legends and right players.
Because of this back in the day it used to make pros cry about Revenant like you wouldn't believe.
As a result, naturally, this led to nerfs and making Death Totem the way it is today.
Nonetheless the most recommended synergies are: Octane's Launch Pad, Wraith's Dimensional Rift and Ash's Phase Breach.
Pathfinder's Zipline Gun and Maggie's Wrecking Ball can work too but those leave you open to damage.
  • Unfortunately, unless you have dedicated and skilled friends to play with (crying), it's highly unlikely that you'll be able to utilize those synergies with random players in solo queue.
This is why i will repeat myself from tip 1, use it rarely and VERY carefully.

Chapter 2: Prepare to Die (A Lot)
Revenant's Glaring Weakness
This section is dedicated to highlighting Revenant's weakness and why he's considered such a bad legend by everyone around.
I will however provide some insight and tips on how to overcome it based on my experience.

Big = Bad | I Don't Like'Em Big, I Don't Like'Em Chunky

  • If you think that being the tallest is a good thing, Revenant will help you question that notion.
At the moment Revenant is the ONLY LEGEND in the entire game that is categorized as big, without ANY corresponding passive and/or abilities to counter his size.
Hell, if you've been around long enough you'll remember that on his initial launch he had the god forsaken Low Profile perk (+5% dmg taken due to small hitboxes).
Yea, not joking, though if silence was laughter Respawn would make some real money.
  • Tank legends (again, Gibraltar, Caustic and Newcastle) possess the biggest hitboxes in the game, but for this reason the developers granted them the Fortified perk (15% dmg reduction and no slow effect under fire).
In addition, these characters have powerful abilities that help them disregard their big size, be it Gibraltar's arm shield and protective dome, Caustic's gas or Newcastle's shield and... bigger shield.
What's that? Pathfinder is big as well you say? Sorry, couldn't hear you over the sound of him grappling and yeeting himself to stratosphere.

(The graph is outdated, but not that much has changed in terms of Revenant's size over the years, his animations are unchanged and hitboxes are nearly the same today.)

Where am i going with this?
Simple.
  • It's important to drive home the point that Revenant has no crutches or get out of jail abilities.
  • That means when push comes to shove, you have only your mechanical skill to rely on.
If you get caught in the open, it is highly likely you will die.
  • While other legends can count on their shields, movement abilities or simply smaller size, bigger characters draw attention and usually are targeted first.
This is why you should keep the following in mind:

Tip 1) Constant Vigilance/Game Sense
This is a general tip for playing Apex Legends, but i'd say it goes double for Revenant mains:
  • Be vigilant and observant. If you travel across the map, don't be at the front.
Instead try to stay near potential cover or escape routes to regroup in case of an attack.
  • Game sense is essential for any character, but especially Revenant.
Sadly it comes with time and experience, so don't be discouraged and keep up the grind.
Those who master it gain insight and skills necessary to predict enemy movements, anticipate their intentions, act upon them and above all know when and when not to fight.
    Crucial.
  • "Excellence is not an art, it's pure habit. We are what we repeatedly do." - The Edge, Furi

Tip 2) Try and Learn Some Sick Moves
  • As i mentioned before, Revenant has only mechanical skill to rely on in his time of need.
This is why, while not required, it's highly recommended to master general movement as soon as you can.
In addition to good game sense, this will allow you to close the gap between "better" legends that much easier.
  • Other than mastering normal sliding, edge boosting, and wall climb, i highly recommend learning super glide.
This movement tech is invaluable for Revenant, especially if combined with tap strafing.
In my opinion you should disregard the notion that you need to press c+spacebar at same time, jump comes first and crouch right after, about 1 frame apart.
Best tip i can give you that worked for me is to use your thumb to press space and then lower your thumb on c right after.
Alternatively you can try binding crouch to one of your mouse thumb buttons (mouse 4/5), it can work as well.

Tip 3) Be Braver Than Your Opponent Expects
This is a small and brief one, but nonetheless very important tip. It may seem counter-intuitive at first but when you think about it, it's not:
  • As you now know, Revenant is big, which means he's at severe disadvantage in longer range combat, trading shots usually won't go his way. Thus the tip here is, don't be afraid.
  • Revenant is most effective when used aggressively, going right in your opponents's faces, flanking them or attacking from behind. The choice which style suits you best is up to you.
If you try to play him passively you will hinder yourself and the entire playstyle of Revenant.

Chapter 3: What makes you a good Revenant Main?
Wut skins you got bithc?
Now comes a final yet very special and important part of the guide.
It may seem trivial to most, but as i have mentioned at the very start:
"Legend with best skins and heirloom in the entire game", no contest.
A sharp dresser as are his tools of slaughter.
This means us Revenant mains have certain standards and reputation to uphold.
Gotta kill skinbags in Style. There's no shame in looking good.

Now naturally i won't be doing a fashion contest in here.
Revenant has a lot of amazing skins, but some deserve more attention than others.
Thus i will present my personal favorites and include some personal thoughts about each of them.

1) The Best Base: Unholy Beast
  • A classic, one of Revenant's base legendary skins.
This look literally screams you are a Revenant main ready to hunt some skinbags.
Unfortunately due to it being a base legendary it is not as flashy or unique.
Nevertheless it is a solid choice.

2) The Best Base Recolor: Bleached Bone
  • Guapee's standard. You can never go wrong with black&white.
This is a recolor of one of base legendary skins, the False Idol.
It is among the best in the game and will certainly make you stand out.

3) The Best Paid Recolor: Necromancer
  • Simple, yet effective, a recolor that beats the original Forged Knight in every way.
Revenant in fully black fantasy armor, with skeleton face and exclusive eerie green eyes.
This one goes hard if you aim to look as menacing as possible.

4) The Best and Only Battlepass Skin: Mail Order Monster
  • Jack the Ripper of Apex Legends.
If you want to feel like a handsome yet deadly rogue, this is a must have.
Unfortunately if you missed the season 15 battlepass, it is uncertain if you will ever get it again. Perhaps a recolor though.

5) Honourable Mention: A Gaze Eternal
  • This skin is hard to put in words other than stunning.
You won't find any better that stands out as much or looks as unique than Gaze Eternal.
Why do i put it in here if it's so good then? Well, due to my OCD i don't like when colors don't fit with rest of the character.
Blue/white/gold of the skin makes it really hard to find a fitting combination with Revenant's frames, poses and trackers.
That is why i don't like it myself, but i do appreciate how incredibly artistic it is.

!) Honourable Recolor: Soulless Sentry
  • As of June 2023, A Gaze Eternal recolor has been added into the game.
The color scheme is in my opinion superior to the original, and far better to pair up with other Revenant's cosmetics. Welcome Soulless Sentry.

!) Personal Top 3 Skins

1) Winter is Coming: No Chill
  • Perfect skin for winter season, its name says it all.
The colors, the gold accents, the fur details, terrifying face and fire red eyes will make your enemies shiver (pun intended).
If you aim to look as close to Death as possible, look no further.

2) The Precursor: Deathproof
  • The first legendary skin to feature a hood and one that started the streak of fantastic legendary Rev skins. Coincidentally also the first one for me to own.
Released back in season 6 in Aftermarket event this skin easily took the spotlight from any other that came with it.
Fittingly said by Revenant in the event's trailer, it is beautiful.

3) Name's Cross, Kaleb Cross: Former Glory
  • Season 17's Dressed to Kill event has introduced the long awaited human Revenant skin.
I always thought it would be a lore skin with special select animation, but it seems that spot is reserved for Revenant Reborn.
Despite everything, this skin became my new personal favorite, easily.
It looks fantastic, it's scary and fits Revenant's aesthetic and heirloom like a glove.

The Finishers
Revenant has only two finishers for now, however quality always beats quantity:

Snap Decision
  • The base finisher, Revenant teleports behind his victim and snaps their neck while screaming/laughing manically.
Players claim this finisher is arguably better as teleporting gives a small protection from being shot, i think it's negligible.

Imminent Shutdown
  • Revenant impales his victim with his hand, pulls them upwards to gaze in their dying eyes, then drops their lifeless body down.
Simple, brutal, asserting complete domination. This finisher is usually the go to for most Revenant mains.

The Heirloom
I suppose i should also mention something about Rev's heirloom, Dead Man's Curve.
However i feel like just stating it is the best one in the game is enough, no bias whatsoever.
Jokes aside, Revenant's heirloom is a shining example to follow on how a good melee reskin should look, feel and sound:
  • It is by far the biggest in game making it actually noticable, unlike kitchen knives most legends run around with.
  • Its main feature is a set of exclusive and unique 3rd person animations that are shared with no other legend.
  • If there is one thing that is bad about it, it is its banner pose, pretty weak one compared to other heirlooms.
In summary, if you ever drop heirloom shards and aim to main Revenant, don't even hesitate, you won't regret it.

(Can't find the artist, nor do i know what subtitles say, but i think it gets the point across.)
Conclusion
Made it to the end have you? Congratulations.
You are now dedicated to learning Revenant, his playstyle, abilities and fashion.
A masterpiece of dystopian science and psychological terror. I tip my hat to you.
Now get out there and make those skinbags envy the dead.
But above all, have fun.

Good guide man, I hope this helps me on the journey to becoming ultimate Revenant.

Oh that's so cool, thank you for making this nice artpiece :]
Naturally i will credit you, it wouldn't sit right with me not to.
Have a good one, new Rev is fantastic!

I made the Revenant smoking a cigarette backwards looking downright decimated, haha. If you put the file into any image editor, mess around with the contrast/brightness, you'll reveal "Nekkrofyle" on the watermark on the shoulder. I think I posted it ONCE a long time ago, I'm amazed it spread at all.

It was a silly piece I made eons ago when teaching a small group how to make art in Paint Dot Net with a mouse and keyboard, essentially "art on a budget".

But honestly, no worries about credit, I was just genuinely delighted to see my goofy art art in here while reminiscing about all the great games I had with his old kit.

I hope you are enjoying new Revenant!

Thank you for feedback, and yes i will keep it up as memento. I'm glad you enjoyed the read, also what art included here have you created? Hit me up so i can credit you since i might've missed you.

Thank you for making this, I enjoyed reading it right before they rework him. I really hope you keep this up as a memory to OG Revenant and how much aggressive fun he was to play.

[Also was slapped in the proverbial face when I saw some art I made included here, it was a great treat.]

Godspeed!!

Revenant ultimate is weak because it got nerfed into the ground. Also when it got nerfed it was too strong when it got buffed. So it's either weak or OP. This means the devs really didn't know how to balance that ability.

Imo the devs could balance it if it gave it the following changes ideas:
- Reverting the previous nerf (removing visual effects to increase visibility for when a totem is placed nearby).
- Adding a return button to rerturn back to the totem (QoL).
- The totem timer should start if there are enemies in 40m range.
- Give revenant a small speed boost if you're the only one in your team who use the totem (To make him a bit more selfish)
