4gauge you don't have to initiate the sprint if you just never let go of your sprint key, keep holding sprint throughout the vault process.

here's what i do:

shift + w running into a vaultable object, keep holding shift w the press my vault key. mid way through the vault animation i let go of W and press S to cancel the vault animation, all while still holding shift, then press W and slide boost when i am ready.

nvm I just managed to replicate this by doing what I described

Question about momentum transfer, when vaulting onto an object where does the momentum to initiate a slide come from? A short sprint after the vault?
