Why Not Create A Guide, So I Did or Am, Whatever
By Bailing_Out
Okay, why did I use that image? Cause your are going to be trying to manage workers. The first thing I am going to do is show an image of a 3 way connection to the customs house. Many of you are going I know how to do that already but some of us play many hours before we figure out how important how you connect to not just the customs house but other stations. Some of us do not make these extremely neat looking republics that you see in many guides. My republics tend to be messy and cramped but last night after the failure of my rail line to do what I wanted, bringing in resources and shipping our products in a republic with NO resources aside from wood and gravel.

The rest of the guide will go on from there to other things unless I find I cannot update it but I think thats allowed.

Customs House Rail Connections
Yeah yeah it looks cramped and messy, all my republics are, I can't stop myself. I always say I'm gonna make it look neater but it never does. And thats not the worst part there in that pic.

See that image there above. I've got it too crowded, thats kind of a theme with me. Anyway, you cannot have long trains that way, so I do not have long trains, when I had them on this republic they ended up stuck right there all the time.

The next two images are about the customs houses if you build some yourself, which I always do.

First pic above, the usual set up, the trucks have to come back out the way they went in and its real slow.

The second pic of this part is what I build, its away from the border, the trucks can use the exit there on the left.

Okay thats all for now. I will do something different in the next update.
Dealing with you citizens
Your workers are a pain in the butt. They are always finding some reason to complain, hey just like real people, only you don't usually have to make people outside family and friends happy in real life.

For the love of all that is holy, make sure you have plenty of kindergarten spots. If its near full, build another, they have babies all the time. They will non stop gripe about a lack of kindergarten spots. You want to build the school for the older kids so you have basically educated workers. You can get by without a college but you cannot build certain things if you have education set to complicated or whatever its called and if you have research turned on.

Also, keep your citizens drunk. Make sure you have a pub or bar and that its stocked.

Food and other things. I build stores that hold plenty of food, meat, clothing and electronics. FARM, and build a food factory, or you can just import crops, they aren't expensive. Food is somewhat expensive. Meat, expensive but most of the time I don't bother with meat production.

Clothes? You can make some money with clothes importing fabric or you can build a fabric factory, import/grow crops, it needs chemicals. Make sure your distribution office doesn't empty the warehouse or factory hauling them to the border to sell completely so you don't have to buy clothes while making them. Set the minimum number left in the warehouse to like 10 or 20%.

Electronics? Buy them, expensive yes but they don't consume them at a high rate. Later if you have an electronics factory then you can just get them from your warehouse.

Those percentages left in the warehouse are very important. If you do not have your distribution office set to pick up food from the customs then you'll run out of food if they empty the warehouse. Your citizens do not like starving even for a day or two. I've lost half my population by not paying attention to that. "Oh I don't need to worry, I'm producing food" but then the crops run out and the factory stops and you're over there designing a railroad line. So leave some food in the warehouse, the factory alone isn't big enough to hold food for a long term situation.

Deliveries will not be made to unpowered buildings. Aside from warehouses and the free fuel stations.

No power, no fuel. I didn't have a store unpowered for this but it works the same
Crime
Short and sweet here. I got this from another player. Build the police station but only have like 8 or so cops. Only give them like 5 or 6 police cars. If you fully staff the police station in game, they will find crime all the time, way too much crime. They will rarely solve one of them because they will literally hundreds of cases and won't have time.

Courthouse and a small prison. I use modded ones with the original police station. Let the prison be fully staffed. i think they ones I'm using right now are the Tudor versions of prison and courthouse.

When you click on an apartment building look and see, yes you will see 2 or 3 crimes not patrolled but look at the smiley face, if its over 85 happiness, don't worry about crime. Look at the other complaints they have.

Trams

Lower right hand corner you can see a tram with its own road. That one is built off to the side of the regular vehicle toad.

Use them or not but the one thing you need to do is build them their own road. They clog up the roads and if they share a station with busses it is even worse. Much more road building this way but you'll be unhappy if the power goes out cause of a tram traffic jam and everything stops including the trams.

Subways are better IMO but the build time on them is long. Plus you cannot build them with the earlier starts. By then you have a bus system running.

Build them their own stations where they cannot clog things up there in the middle or off to the side. They will clog each other up sometimes but thats not as bad.

Going to try ralk (<--- Scooby Doo got in here somehow) about subways in next part. If you are looking for how to's you might want to go somewhere else. I don't really do that, I more talk about the plusses and minuses of doing things this way or that.
