The Yateveo
Lore:
(Read in David Attenborough's voice)

A particularly prolific specimen of the Entity's blight-induced Pustula flowers has evolved into something... more.

Contamination with the Ouroboros Virus produces large mutations in the Pustula's anatomy. Its petals burgeon into a thick epidermis, its vines extending throughout its form to serve as muscle and sinew. The flower's stamens undergo extreme growth, developing into long appendages. Along them, needle-like thorns sprout from beneath the periderm, lining the creature's vicious new extremities with a row of razor sharp barbs. They spurt and drip with a putrid, glowing substance.

This substance- the putrid nectar of the Pustula flower- is perhaps the most terrifying development of the Yateveo. The introduction of the Progenitor virus has caused the nectar's composition to change drastically. Unstable opium alkaloid groups in the mutated nectar attach to the virus's protein spikes, resulting in a compound over five times more potent than before. (fix?) Upon injection, the nectar immediately begins affecting the nervous system, numbing pain and rapidly releasing endorphins. The nectar then moves on to alter the DNA, causing substantial mutations in the survivor's body. The nectar's mutational and addictive capabilities on human biology cannot be overstated.

The newly born Yateveo is little more than a writhing mass of vines and nectar. It begins to seek out survivors across the Entity's realm by sensing vibrations in the ground. Upon subduing one, the Yateveo uses its repurposed stamens to inject the survivor with putrid serum before releasing them back into the realm, so that they may provide a means of pollination. Its strategy for survival is very effective, and almost guarantees its spread throughout the Entity's realm year round.

Now, this hulking monstrosity hunts on more than just survival instinct.
The Entity calls for sacrifice. It obliges.

Note: the pictures should give a general idea of the Yateveo's appearance. I realize they differ from the description, especially plant 43.

Killer Power: What Lies Beneath
Given your blighted origins, you know the Entity's realm inside and out. Your mutated anatomy allows you to reach places unthinkable to others, doing so with impressive speed.
Press and hold the Power button to charge What Lies Beneath and begin Burrowing.
The Yateveo will burrow into the ground, leaving just the top of its leafy head poking out.

While Burrowing, the following effects occur:
  • The Yateveo gains increased Movement speed (7.25 m/s).
  • The Yateveo's point of view descends underneath the map, losing the ability to see Survivors, Scratch Marks, and Pools of Blood.
  • Instead, the Yateveo can see Ripples generated by sprinting/walking survivors' footsteps.
  • The Yateveo can traverse underneath dropped Pallets.
  • Sounds from above ground (such as survivors moaning in pain, healing, or entering lockers) are muffled, though still audible.
  • The Yateveo gains the Undetectable Status effect.
  • Moving causes nearby survivors to experience screenshake, scaling with proximity.
The Yateveo can remain Burrowed until the Power gauge is depleted. The Power gauge will only deplete while the Yateveo is moving. A Subterranean Ambush is automatically triggered on depletion.
The Power gauge must be fully replenished before What Lies Beneath can be initiated again.

SPECIAL ATTACK: Subterranean Ambush
While Burrowing, press the Active ability button to initiate a Subterranean Ambush.
The Yateveo will burst out of the ground, ensnaring any survivors within 3 meters.
On a successful Ambush, the Yateveo holds the survivor in place, binding them with vines. The Yateveo then uses its stamens to inject the restrained survivor with nectar, filling their Saturation Meter. The Yateveo will not stop until either the survivor completes the Break Free action, takes damage, or their Saturation Meter reaches full capacity.

Saturation Meter
  • Any time a survivor's Saturation Meter reaches 100% (or 200% while in Overdose, see below), the survivor's Mutation Stage increases.
  • When a survivor's Saturation Meter reaches 100% capacity from a successful Subterranean Ambush, the survivor loses a health state.
(If this places them in the dying state, The Yateveo immediately picks them up, similar to Wesker.)

Dormant Pustula
Your mutations may have made you an anomaly, but your base anatomy is still that of an angiosperm. Other, less advanced Pustula plants are in bloom across the realm, waiting to be pollinated.
  • Replaces Hooks with Dormant Pustulas
  • Press the Interaction button to place a survivor into the coils of the Dormant Pustula.
The Dormant Pustula will bind the survivor with its vines and hold on tight.
  • Bound survivors are subject to standard Hook state progression, self-unhook chances, and struggle mechanics.
When "hooking" a survivor whose Saturation Meter is 69% or higher, the Dormant Pustula wakes and turns into an Active Pustula.
  • Active Pustulas uproot themselves and begin carrying the bound survivor slowly around the trial. They will attempt to move away from the other survivors.
  • The Active Pustula begins injecting the survivor with nectar, filling their Saturation Meter at a rate of +2%/s.
  • The Active Pustula can increase the bound survivor's Saturation meter past 100%. This puts the survivor into Overdose.
Overdose:
  • Survivors in Overdose experience distorted vision and hearing, similar to the VFX of clown's intoxication.
  • Survivors in Overdose can have their Saturation Meters increased by successful Subterranean Ambush grabs, Active Pustulas, or Unfurling Creepers up to 200%. Upon reaching 200%, the survivor will increase their Mutation Stage, but take no damage.
  • Overdosed survivors' Saturation Meters deplete at an accelerated rate of -1.5%/s.

Survivors bound by Active Pustulas will not progress their Sacrifice Process while the Yateveo is within 40m of them.

When a bound survivor is freed from an Active Pustula, it will wither away, sewing its pollinated seeds on the spot. After 15 seconds, the planted seeds will sprout into an Unfurling Creeper.

Unfurling Creeper
Upon the disintegration of an Active Pustula, a seed is planted that will germinate into an Unfurling Creeper after some time. Upon sprouting, it will seek out the pollinator (the survivor freed from the Active Pustula) at a slow but steady pace. The Unfurling Creeper travels directly towards the survivor, changing course only when it encounters an obstacle.

When within 2m of a survivor, the Unfurling Creeper bursts from the ground and ensnares them, holding them in place and injecting them with nectar. The survivor must complete skillchecks to remove the 3 vines injecting them with nectar, each at a rate of 1%/s.
  • Successful skillchecks remove 1 vine.
  • Failed skillchecks add 1 vine to the total, increasing the rate by 1%/s.
A maximum of 6 vines may be penetrating a survivor at a time.

Upon the survivor's Saturation Meter reaching 100% or 200% capacity, the Unfurling Creeper will automatically let the survivor go. The survivor will not take damage.
ⁿᵉʷ ᵍʳᵉᵉⁿ ˢʰᵒᵒᵗˢ ᵘⁿᶠᵘʳˡᶦⁿᵍ
SPECIAL ABILITY: Pullulating Addiction
In addition to its highly addictive properties, injecting large quantities of your nectar into survivors causes them to physically mutate. The mutations both strengthen and hinder the survivors as the serum takes its course.
  • Automatically fill a carried survivor's Saturation Meter by +2%/s for as long as they are carried.
  • The effects of each Mutation Stage persist for the remainder of the trial.
Survivor Mutation Stages
Stage 1 - Oversaturated
The first stage of mutation is defined by over-development of muscles in the abdominal, femoral, and sural regions, producing a lecythiform figure. Due to the abundance of serum in the body, the first mutation develops the initial symptoms of addiction.
  • Reduce the survivor's Fall Stagger by 100%.
  • The survivor's Saturation Meter will now constantly deplete by -0.8%/s.
Upon reaching 0% capacity, the survivor enters Withdrawal.

Withdrawal:
While in Withdrawal, the survivor:
  • Suffers from the Incapacitated Status effect.
  • Experiences an Illusory Red Stain and Terror Radius as though the Yateveo were right behind them.
  • Takes twice as long to complete the Break Free action.
  • Unlocks the Self-Imbue ability.
Self Imbue:
Interact with a Dormant Pustula while in Withdrawal to drain all its nectar into yourself.
  • This renders the Dormant Pustula unusable as a hook location for 50s.
  • This Increases the survivor's Saturation Meter by 100%.
Stage 2 - Engorged
The second stage of mutation usually results in sudden growth in the arms and shoulders. While increasing overall strength, the increased bulk makes stealth considerably harder.
  • Increase the duration on successful stuns from Pallets, Head On and Decisive Strike by +25%.
  • Increase the volume of the survivor's Grunts of Pain and regular breathing by +100%.
Stage 3 - Overgrown
At this stage, the nectar has altered enough of the body that a seedling of the Yateveo has germinated in the thoracic cavity. This is often accompanied by significant swelling, as the surrounding tissue expands to make room for the vines and flowers entwining throughout the thorax.
  • As long as the survivor's Saturation Meter is above 20% (and does not have Deep Wound), any Basic attack that would put the survivor in the dying state instead inflicts the Deep Wound Status effect, and consumes 20% of their Saturation Meter instantly.
  • The survivor's Movement speed is decreased by -10%.
Stage 4 - Inundated
At stage four, the massive amount of serum in the bloodstream finally permeates the blood-brain barrier. Mutations in the brain enable impressive aura-reading abilities, but impair some cognitive motor control functions. This stage can be visually identified by excess serum constantly leaking from the eyes and mouth.
  • While in Overdose, the survivor can see the Yateveo's aura within 45m.
  • While in Overdose, the survivor suffers from lateral movement interference akin to wiggling Struggle Effects.
Stages 5+ - Addicted
At this point, the nectar has fully integrated with almost all bodily fluids, developing an irreversible chemical dependency. Blood vessels across the body glow bright orange, visible through the skin.
  • The survivor enters Withdrawal 10% earlier for each stage past Stage 4.
This cannot be stacked past stage 24.

Add-ons
Ultra Rare What Lies Beneath Addons:
Iridescent Thorn
An elongated, glass-like thorn molded from The Fog itself. It signifies a pact made with The Entity, and holds considerable power.
  • The Power gauge recharges while Burrowed if the Yateveo remains stationary.
Nectar Serum № 69
A vial of thick, nectar-based serum, exuding a sickly-sweet aroma that some may find enticing. Rather than providing a means to escape, the serum induces an irresistible urge to stay in the Entity's realm.
  • Increases the rate at which a survivor's Saturation Meter depletes by +0.2%/s.
  • Increases the Activation speed of What lies Beneath by +50%.
  • Causes survivors past Mutation Stage 2 to ooze nectar, creating a visible trail behind them.
The trail cannot be seen by the Yateveo while Burrowing.

"Finally... This is the one."
-Talbot Grimes

Very Rare What Lies Beneath Addons:
Overdeveloped Blossom
A Pustula blossom that has bloomed to outlandish proportions due to increased nectar production.
  • Coming within 1.5 meters of a survivor while Burrowing will trigger Killer Instinct.

Killer Perks
Side Effects
You can sense when your prey is weakened from your serum, and plan your strikes accordingly.
Whenever a survivor gains a negative Status Effect, Side Effects activates.
  • Reveal the afflicted survivor's Aura for 1/1.5/2 seconds.
  • Extends the radius of all Killer-based Aura-reading abilities by 4/6/8 meters.
Status Effects that trigger Side Effects include:
Oblivious, Mangled, Incapacitated, Hindered, Deafened, Hemorrhage, Exhausted, Broken, and Blindness.
Side Effects does not activate when a Survivor gains the following Status Effects:
Cursed, Deep Wound, Exposed, Glyph, or the killer specific Madness or Sleep Penalty.

Rooted in Fear
Your appearance confounds your prey's animalistic instincts, and paralyzes them with fear.
Starting a chase while carrying a survivor activates Rooted in Fear.
  • The chased survivor suffers from the Hindered status effect, which fades in intensity from -100% to -0% over 1/2/3 seconds.
  • The chased survivor becomes the Obsession.

Untamed Dominance
The Entity smiles upon your aptitude in killing, lessening the progress of your opponents.
Upon starting a chase, Untamed Dominance receives 10 Tokens.
During the chase, Tokens deplete by 1 every 2 seconds.
Ending chase with a survivor via a successful hit, down, or grab activates Untamed Dominance.
  • Regress the generator with the most progress by 1% for each Token.
  • Successfully ending chase with the Obsession results in an additional 5% regression.
Ending chase by any other means does not activate Untamed Dominance, and resets Tokens to zero.
Untamed Dominance has a cool-down of 40/30/20 seconds before it can be activated again.
Cosmetic Ideas
When imagining what a killer based on a mutated flower would look like, an Alraune immediately came to mind. A humanoid flower monster that uses nectar to ensnare its prey? Sounds about right. However, I felt like the context in which such a creature is usually portrayed didn't quite fit the bill for a frightening Killer in DBD. Still, they provide interesting ideas for skins at the very least.

Another design I found was the Yateveo from RE Resistance, which, although slightly vulvic, fits the "scary killer" vibe a little better. It also cannot normally move, but adding some prehensile roots or vines to slither around on would be rather non-intrusive to the design. I think this would at least be a cool licensed legendary cosmetic.
Memento Mori
The Yateveo wraps its lower vines around the downed survivor's throat, constricting and dragging them by the neck across the ground to its main body. The survivor kicks and attempts to pull the vines from around their neck. The camera follows them at a low angle until they are just below the Yateveo, who towers over them. With a final pull, the survivor becomes lodged headfirst in the Yateveo's vines, struggling and kicking as the Yateveo begins to burrow into the ground, taking the survivor down with it. Only the survivor's muffled cries are heard as their legs sink beneath the surface.

Alternate mori - Survivor is past Mutation Stage 3: The Yateveo restrains the survivor's arms to their sides with its vines, coiling around their torso and lifting the survivor up to face them. The Yateveo's mutated stamens plunge into the survivor's throat, injecting nectar into the seedling growing within their chest. The seedling begins to grow rapidly, causing the survivor to scream and shudder as it winds its vines through their ribs, organs, and esophagus. The Yateveo retracts its stamens and releases the survivor, who falls into a kneeling position, twitching slightly as a large Pustula flower blooms out of their mouth.

Credits and Final Thoughts

This one took forever to make. The power was tough to figure out, but not having a licensed character to base everything off of made my brain run in circles. I literally had myself reading JSTOR articles and DEA documents for inspiration, not to mention the hours spent on assorted wiki pages. I think I had an open-tab count in the hundreds at one point. My respect to professional game character creators, it's more mental work than you might think.

Thanks so much for reading the guide. Leave a rating if you enjoyed it, and feel free to comment on anything you found interesting, imbalanced, or funny.
I'm also curious as to what addon / perk combinations people would run with this killer, so comment which you would use and I'll give your profile an award.

Tysm! :winter2019happyyul: You have a point about that anti-camping feature, a smaller radius would be more fair- but tbf, the moving hooks might end up in the corner of their own accord :p
Keep an eye out for my next one, I'm writing a killer that puts both the Knight and the new Skull Merchant to shame. At least someone at BHVR seems to be following my character design patterns :lunar2019grinningpig:

okay but this is actually pretty cool though, some numbers need work, like that 40 meter radius for hook stage progress making the game incompleteable on gideon meat plant, anywhere but opposite side of map and hook stage does not progress, but this is a lot better than the new chapter on the PTB without any changes made

We really do need more non-human killers.

That's right! :sfsmug: The original myth was created by Spanish explorers, who claimed they heard the man-eating beastie whispering that very phrase over and over again. The phrase "Yateveo" became the name of the specific cryptid born from that myth, and so I chose it for my Killer's name. The same myth was probably used when they named the Yateveo in RE: Resistance as well. Nice catch!
