Introduction
Hello! I'm Willis. I've put a few hours into Cheeky Chooks and wanted to share what I've learned during this time. I don't promise a better guide than the others, but it's my take on how one should look and what information it should cover.

This guide will hopefully help people who are having trouble navigating this Chook-based landscape. The goal is to be good enough to get you though the game once the developers, mods, and community move on to greener pastures.

First, I'd like to thank Rem for reviewing this guide to ensure it's not just a ramble of nonsense.

Second, I'd like to thank Rag, Cosmo, and Wade for answering my questions and putting up with my shenanigans over the years.

With those formalities out of the way, let's get Chookin!
General Farm Information
This section covers the overarching stats you need to keep track of during your Cheeky Chooks play-through.

Farm Level
Farm level dictates how much buildings space you have and what you can build. For example, different feeder, drinker, and coop sizes are level locked.

  • Level 1 – This is the starting farm level. At this level, you only have access to Level 1 Farm missions. Additionally, you can only build small feeders, drinkers, coops and hatch normal Chooks.

  • Level 2 – This is the second farm level you acquire. To upgrade from level 1 to level 2, you need to accumulate $10,000. Once you purchase this upgrade, your farm will increase in size and unlock Level 2 Farm missions. Additionally, this upgrade also unlocks medium feeders, drinkers, coops, and rare Chooks.

  • Level 3 – This is the third farm level you acquire. To upgrade from level 2 to level 3, you need to accumulate another $50,000. Once you purchase this upgrade, your farm will increase in size and unlock Level 3 Farm missions. Additionally, this upgrade also unlocks large feeders, drinkers, coops, and golden Chooks.

  • Level 4 – This is the last farm level you acquire. To upgrade from level 3 to level 4, you need to accumulate another $100,000. Once you purchase this upgrade, your farm will increase in size and unlock Level 4 Farm missions. No new feeders, drinkers, or coops become available with this upgrade.

Resources
Like any management game, you must manage your resources to grow your Henpire.

Food
Food, as you'd imagine, is what your Chooks eat on a day-to-day basis. You can find how much food you have in the bottom left corner of the screen. Do note that the amount of food listed next to the spoon and fork icon is not your total amount of food. It is your food surplus. To increase the amount of food on your farm, build and/or upgrade feeders.

Without enough food, you cannot hatch or accept new Chooks.

Lastly, if your feeders run out of food, your Chooks will become unhappy. How fast your feeders empty depends on their size and the number of Chooks on your farm. You can refill them manually or use drones to automate the process.

Water
Water, similarly to food, is vital to keeping your Chooks on the farm. You can find how much water you have in the bottom left corner of the screen. Do note that the amount of water listed next to the water drop icon is not your total amount of water. It is your water surplus. To increase the amount of water on your farm, build and/or upgrade drinkers.

Without enough water, you cannot hatch or accept new Chooks.

Lastly, if your drinkers run out of water, your Chooks will become unhappy. How fast your drinkers empty depends on their size and the number of Chooks on your farm. You can refill them manually or use drones to automate the process.

Housing
The third resource of Cheeky Chooks is housing. Like food and water, you find this in the bottom left of the screen. Do note that the amount of housing listed next to the house icon is not your total amount of water. It is your housing surplus. To increase the amount of housing on your farm, build and/or upgrade coops. Do note, the maximum number of Chooks you can have, excluding legendary Chooks, is 300. This means, at most, you will need 300 housing.

Without enough housing, you cannot hatch or accept new Chooks. Unlike food and water, you do not need to refill anything with housing. Additionally, you cannot lose happiness with housing.

Chooks
Your Chooks are the lifeblood of your Henpire. There are currently 84 breeds of Chooks you can hatch and unlock. Do note that each one uses up water, food, housing, and happiness based on the rarity of the Chook while, in turn, increasing the number of eggs lain and egg quality.

Happiness
Happiness is how happy your Chooks are with their lives on your farm. As your farm's happiness levels increase, egg-laying speed also increases. On the other hand, if your Chooks become too unhappy for too long, they will leave your farm.

Farm happiness varies based on quite a few factors. Those factors include:
  • The number and type of Chooks
  • Temperature
  • Buidlings
  • Weather
  • Used farm space

Temperature
The ideal temperature range for your Chooks is between 20 and 25°C. Outside of this range will cause your Chooks to become unhappy.

Springtime will always have an ideal temperature for your Chooks. The other seasons however, will fall outside of this range.

At the start of summer year 1, you unlock the temperature station. This building regulates the temperature of your farm. Do note that the station runs on energy and needs to be resupplied similarly to feeders and drinkers. You can manually refill the energy or automatically with the drone station electric.

Do note, at level 4 the temperature station becomes automatic. To disable this, select the station, click the lightning bolt, then click the automation toggle switch.

Weather
There are a few weather events that can occur during your Chook adventures. These events are supposed to impact your Chook's happiness, but at the time of writing there is a bug. We don't know if it's just a visual bug or if they don't impact your happiness at all.
  • Clear
  • Rain
  • Dust Storm
  • Heat Wave
  • Hail
  • Snow

Seasons
Seasons were added with the Adventure mode update, they are not present in classic mode. Each season will have its own weather and temperature happenings. Additionally, each season has its own unique chooks, buildings, and missions to unlock/complete.

A season is 30 days long.

Needs by Chook Type
Below is a table depicting how much food, water, and housing each Chook rarity needs. Egg quality for legendaries depends on the legendary.

Egg Lay Speed
Egg lay speed is calculated based on your happiness level. The formula used is 5 – (Happiness / 25). The minimum egg lay speed is 1 second. The maximum egg lay speed is 994.2 days. You won't ever hit this unless you somehow glitch the game out and hit the negative integer limit.

Egg Quality
Egg quality determines how valuable your eggs are when being sold. The formula used to determine their value is Base + Chooks / 100 + Buildings / 100. The minimum egg quality is $0.10 and the maximum egg quality is $2.08.

Certain Chooks and buildings increase Egg quality, such as the legendary buildings and Chooks.

User Interface

Saves
In case you ever want to backup your saves follow this path:

\Users\AppData\LocalLow\Trilum Studios\Cheeky Chooks
Can probably get to AppData by hitting windows key and typing %AppData% and hitting enter

For Apple computer users...
The devs think you might have to go to this path
/Library/Application Support/TrilumStudios/CheekyChooks
or maybe this path
/Library/Caches

I don't know, they don't know, and you probably don't know. So best of luck to you.

In this folder, you will see four save profiles, each with 5 saves. Those profiles correspond to your farms as follows.

Backing up or creating more save files
If you want more than 4 Cheeky Chook saves, we recommend you copy your CheekySaveProfile#Save#.xml files and save them into a folder outside the Cheeky Chooks folder. This process not only lets you have more than four saves, but it also backs up your saves. If you want to go back to playing one of these saves, switch it out with the same save profile currently in the Cheeky Chooks folder.

Menus
The game's main menu bar is in the bottom right-hand corner of your screen. Here you will find the buttons for the Cheeky Shop, Missions, Journal, Chooks, Farm Information, Camera View, and Settings.

Cheeky Shop
The Cheeky Shop holds all buildable items in the game. These items fall into five categories, Farm Essentials, Fun Items, Water Items, Land Items, and Decorations.

Farm Essentials
This section holds everything you need to keep your Chooks alive. Here you will find coops, feeders, drinkers, drones, and the temperature station. Additionally, you can upgrade your farm's level in this shop section.

Fun Items
These are items designed to give happiness to your Chooks. This category is similar to land items. However, instead of selling natural items, these items are man-made.

Water Items
This section holds all of the buildings that deal with water. These are the eight items you need to unlock Sunflower Chook.

Land Items
These are items designed to give happiness to your Chooks. This category is similar to fun items. However, instead of selling man-made items, all of these items are natural or nature themed.

Decorations
These items do not provide any happiness bonuses when built. They are here to help you create dazzling Farms to wow your peers and become the envy of the Chooking Community. Do note that both Jack O'lanterns and Candles are in this section. These are needed to get the Chiccan Chook.

Missions
This menu is where you find and complete the 91 missions in Cheeky Chooks. As a reward for completing these missions, you can unlock new buildings and decent cash payouts.

Journal
The journal keeps track of all your tips and Chook facts. There are 23 Chook facts in total, and they unlock based on the number of Chooks you have on your farm. Do note that you need Chook Fact 22 to unlock Logichook.

Chooks
The Chooks page is there to let you inspect all of the Chooks currently on your farm. Within this menu, you can name, move, or if you are truly dastardly, remove them from your farm. Who knows where they'll end up if you do that!?

Farm Information
This menu gives you all you need to know about your farm. Here you find your Chook breakdown by rarity, happiness information, egg lay speed, and egg quality. Additionally, on this page, you can rename your farm in the top left and upgrade your farm in the bottom right. Do note that your farm's name can only be 15 characters long.

Camera
This button switches between the two available camera angles.

Top Down
Perspective (it has depth and looks more natural)

Settings
This menu opens up the game settings. Here you can change your graphics, audio, and game play settings. Additionally, you can close out of Cheeky Chooks, head back to the menu, or do a manual save. Your farm will auto-save before leaving if you click either "Quit Game" or "Main Menu".

Popups
There are three categories of popups in Cheeky Chooks. Those are important notices, informational notices, and upgrade notices.

Important

This notification appears when you run out of a resource, are low on happiness, or an event happens. They are represented by a red icon on the right side of your screen. Clicking the notification will bring up an informational box describing what is going on.

Informational

This notification appears when you've unlocked a new tip or fact. They are represented by a yellow icon on the right side of your screen. Clicking the notification will bring up an informational box describing the tip or fact.

Upgrade

This notification appears when you've acquired enough money to upgrade your farm to the next level. They are represented by a blue icon on the right side of your screen. Clicking the notification will bring up a menu asking you if you want to upgrade your farm.

Chiccan
Hint – Four candles in corners must be placed, await witching hour to extinguish cursed flames.

Solution 1
Wait until autumn rolls around to unlock the candle. Place one candle in each corner of your farm. Once placed, wait until midnight strikes and the candles glow purple. Click each candle to extinguish the purple flames. Once extinguished, ghosts will spawn across your farm. You need to click 20 ghosts before 6 am to summon Chiccan. If ghosts do not spawn, relaunch your game and try again.

Solution 2
This solution is possible at any time. Rename three Chooks of the same breed “Po”, “Pah”, and “Kay”. They will leave your farm, and you will unlock the candle.

Bokkaneer

Hint – X times marks on the spot
Solution – Wait until summer rolls around. Unlock the Starfish Bay building. Once placed, you should see an “X” in the sand. Click that “X” 10 times. When done, a ship appears in the bay, and Bokkaneer will be unlocked.

Logichook

Hint – Well read egg
Solution – Click the egg icon on the Chook Fact 22 page. You must have 100 Chooks on your farm to unlock this Chook fact. Note it might bug out if you don’t have enough space, food, or water present when you click the egg.

Henferatu

Hint – Count to 10 in the name of the Count!
Solution – Name your farm “12345678910” (see video in the Sputchick section)

In game Events
There are three events you will encounter during your quest to be the best. These events are the Pumpkin Smash, Chicken Find, and the Egg Truck. You will find these events by clicking the red notification button on the right side of your screen.

Pumpkin Smash
This event is where pumpkins start popping out of the ground all over your farm. To start you need to click accept in the events pop-up box. Once started you and your Chooks have 48 seconds to smash as many pumpkins as possible. To smash a pumpkin simply click on it. The more pumpkins you smash the higher your cash reward once the timer runs out.

Chicken Find
This event is where a few of your Chooks will dawn fancy hats and roam around your farm. In general, you will have to find 6 hats, however, I have seen it require 5 or 4 before. You have 2 minutes to find and click on all hatted Chooks. Do note you need at least 15 Chooks roaming around before you will encounter this event.

Egg Truck

The egg truck will appear every so often to purchase eggs from your farm. Since the driver is desperate for eggs they offer to buy them for 3x their egg quality. This is a great way to make some money fast if you happen to have enough eggs on hand when it shows up.

The amount of eggs requested is based on how much egg storage and how many Chooks you have. The truck is also said to arrive every 3 to 6 days.

Important Known Bugs
Broken Incubator
This bug occurs if you have 25 incubators already cooking and you try to start a 26th. No egg will spawn in, it will be considered running, and you cannot delete the incubator. Reloading the save and relaunching the game does not fix this. You will forever have an unusable incubator on your property.

Infinite Chooks
This is currently limited to Classic mode and it generally happens during the tutorial. Your egg will be ready to hatch but it won't when you click it. Instead, it will spawn in a Chook. It will continue to spawn in Chooks every time you click the egg.

Ragical - "This issue also only seems to occur in classic mode, if restarting doesn't fix it I strongly suggest trying adventure mode."

Broken Space Unhappiness
This is limited to adventure mode. The developers implemented an unhappiness modifier for having some % of your farm's SqFt/SqM taken up by objects. Completely my fault by the way. Sorry for ruining any farm ideas. The good news is, is that its breakable. For every 1 chook you bring onto your farm, the space unhappiness decreases by 1, meaning your net happiness stays the same. I am not sure if you have to do some fiddling to get it to work, or if its just the default state of the game.

Below is a proof of concept picture

Pumpkin Smash Crashes Game
The developers know about this bug. I am not really sure if there is a way to "fix" it or avoid it. This can be quite problematic for unlocking one of the chooks later down the line.

Temperature Station Locking
When summer first starts you will get a popup for the temperature station. Make sure you click the lightning bolt after placing the building. If you deselect the station, you will have to reload the game.

Camera snapping back to point
Sometimes the camera likes to stick to one spot. To fix this select and deselect a different building. This should let you roam around your farm once more.
Closing and Discord link
You've managed to make it to the end of the guide. Congratulations!

Were you able to unlock all the Chooks? Are you sure you didn't miss out on any secrets hidden along the way?

I hope this guide shed some light on any and all problems you might have whilst playing Cheeky Chooks.

I don't know what "on the →" means, but you unlock the chooks the same way you unlock some of the other legendary chooks. The keys you need to unlock them are presented, though not directly pointed out, in the first and third videos in the nonseasonal legendary section.

So the ones on the → correct?
