Welcome
Hello, I hope you have been enjoying that special brand of suffering we like to call "LA-MULANA".

First of all, I would like to mention that this guide owes a lot of thanks to the great editors on: LA-MULANA Steam Achievements Wiki[lamulana-remake.wikia.com] and the dozens of other players who created videos - at the time I wrote this guide back in 2014, most of the resources for deeper stuff were only in Japanese. This guide is marked as a "Work in Progress" mostly because of the still unconfirmed/incomplete nature of how exactly to get all of the dialogue required for the achievements where you listen to everything Xelpud and Mulbruk say and the achievement to scan all suspicious spots (As of 2019, this is probably solved elsewhere).

There are four classes of achievements in LA-MULANA which are defined by the color of their image border, although like everything else in the game, they are fairly obscure and cryptic. They are:

Yellow: Achievements you earn playing through the game normally.
Blue: Extremely difficult and related to characters appearing in the end credits.
Red: (Usually) Insanely difficult challenges.
White: Supposedly "trivial" objectives but the rarest achievements in the game as of right now.

Within these sections I have tried to organize the achievements logically first and secondly by what order you are most likely to encounter them.

Let's work together to create an organized list of Xelpud/Mulbruk dialogue and suspicious spots!

Update 7-12-2014: The suspicious spots list has been painstakingly updated. There are still 133 spots in the list, so please let me know if you find an error.
Yellow (Normal Playthrough)
These are the easiest achievements in the game and you will earn all of them in a normal playthrough. I'm not going to go in depth on most of these; a general walkthrough would serve you better. Instead, I'll just write a bunch of needlessly condescending and/or downright mean insults.

20/64 Yellow

Welcome to LA-MULANA

- Opened the entrance to LA-MULANA
- Achieved when you first enter the ruins or never achieved because you saw this game on Humble Bundle and paid $1 for it, booted it up once and quit once you felt the jump physics.

The Girl Awakens

- Mulbruk Awakens
- Wake up Mulbruk in exactly the same way you've spent a lifetime of anime-viewing imagining.

Seek A Higher Place

- Obtained the Wing
- Kill Argus and open the chest in (A-3). Not sure why the text calls it a "wing" when it's a Feather, haha.

Take A Walk On The Dark Side

- Obtained Future Development Company
- Go to the Graveyard of the Giants (B-5) and stand on the knee of the dead giant, from there jump up and try and get inside the block of ice containing the dais, you can only enter it from the left. Once you have activated the dais you will then be able to access the chest below. This software allows you to warp to backside fields.

Eden, Here Was

- Revealed Eden
- Earned when you have the Fruit of Eden and place a weight on the dais in Eden. Please let the sound that screams out at you next live in your nightmares forever.

You Are A Small One

- Proved that you are indeed small.
- In the Gate of Illusion (F-4), head through the door to talk to the man inside and he will give you the Mini Doll. Once you have spoken to him, equip the Mini Doll and head to the Mausoleum of the Giants, go to any room that has a statue of a giant inside it and use the Mini Doll. Sorry, loading a selfie of yourself into the game won't unlock this.

The Sadness Of The Twins Has Vanished

- The Twin Labyrinth has opened.
- Go to the Endless Corridor (D-3) and activate the dais, then jump through the block on the right and use the Key of Eternity on the keyhole in the background. Once you have done that go to (A-3) and open the chest (You also have to go to the Twin Labyrinths via the entrance that is opened after defeating Ellmac and solve the puzzle to clear the poison fog).

The Four Philosophers Were Awakened

- Obtained the Ocarina of The Philosophers
- Achieved when you receive the ocarina after doin' some CREEPY statue lovin'.

Read All Of The Paleographies

- Learnt ancient LA-MULANA words
- The title for this is a bit confusing, I originally thought it meant you had to read EVERY stone in the game, haha. But actually you just need to read the three murals required to translate the ancient LA-MULANA language. They are in (C-4), (D-1) and (F-3).

A One Time Challenge

- Challenge the balance of the spirits
- Speak to Samaranta at the Tower of the Goddess (C-5), you must have the Ocarina. Doing that will cause a ladder to appear at the top-left of the same room, head up the ladder. You do not have to beat the scales puzzle to get the achievement however, reading the tablet then leaving the room will mean you can never try the puzzle again unless you reset it at the secret shop in the Gate of Time or reload a previous save file.

Twin-Headed Snake
Giant's Rage
High Speed Beast
Dangerous Raid
At The Bottom
Black Misa
Ancient Machine
Slippery Serpent

- Obliterated "X" guardian.
- There's an achievement for killing each guardian. Exciting.

The Beginning Of Hell And Awakening

- Obliterated all guardians.
- Awarded for killing all eight guardians. The most original achievement.

You Are The Strongest Archaeologist!

- Completed the adventure.
- Kill Mother and escape out the door Mulbruk always had behind her for some reason...
Red (Insanely Difficult Achievements)
These are probably the most realistic and fun achievements in the game. They mostly just require good ol' fashioned gamin' skills.

7/64 Red

Stop Him Without Stopping Time!

- Obliterated Zu without using the Lamp of Time.
- Go to the Twin Labyrinths (B-3) and fight and defeat Zu without ever using the Lamp of Time. I don't really understand why this one is red. It took me two tries blind, just keep your shield out. If you hit him right before he tries the time freeze thing he won't be able to freeze time. Just beat him down.

The Run To Ruin

- Survived the 3rd infinite corridor under your own power.
- Video guide:
- Use the Key of Eternity on the keyhole of Endless Corridor (D-3) within the fifteen second time limit. You can't take the shortcut through the block on the starting screen. You have to go through (C-3), (B-3) and (A-3) instead; clearing out the whole floor before placing the weight and precise double jumps are necessary. The top left block on (B-3) is fake and can be jumped through (using the lamp of time to halt the timer will not work).

The Hidden Road

- Opened the backdoor to the Tower of the Goddess.
- Super cool achievement. Head to the far right side of 8-bit Mausoleum of the Giants and attack the floor directly above what should be the entrance to the Twin Labyrinths with the Knife or Katana until the floor breaks away, revealing a ladder. Then head down the ladder to end up in the dark Tower of the Goddess. Simply taking the shortcut into the field is not enough, you must go all the way to the (B-9) entrance (Feather required) where you turn on the lights to fully get the achievement. This must be done while the lights are still off and before killing Viy.

This isn't even my final form!

- Completed the HELL TEMPLE without the Fairy's Vest.
- Self-explanatory but I recommend you don't do this on Hard Mode, haha.

The Masochist King

- Completed HELL TEMPLE in HARD MODE
- Self-explanatory but I do not have confirmation if you need to do the whole game on Hard Mode or just Hell Temple? Is it even possible to turn on Hard Mode after killing a guardian? Wow, I should know that.

All I need is one arm.

- Obliterated all guardians without using secondary weapons.
- Video guide:
- Kill all 8 guardians and Mother. Shields can still be used. This actually isn't too tough (other than Mother).

All I need is one finger!

- Obliterated all guardians without using secondary weapons in HARD MODE.
- Video guides: https://www.youtube.com/user/whremi/videos
- All guardians and Mother. Shields can be used. Enjoy the suffering.
Blue (Credits Characters)
Oh, the blue achievements... not all of them are that tough, but some of them are the hardest of the game, in my opinion. Completing each of these makes the character from that achievement image show up in the end credits. What's insanely difficult about all of these is in the sum of their parts because for a few of these achievements you need to have EVERY character in the end credits. As in, you need to complete EVERY one of these tough achievements in a single sub 10hr speedrun of the game... enjoy~

  • Gate of Guidance (C-4) - From (D-4) jump over the trapdoor (just above the column of head statues) into (C-4). Place a weight on the dais to reveal a coin chest. With careful timing and precise jumping you can jump through the trapdoor in (D-4) and land on the ledge containing the chest in (C-4).
  • Mausoleum of the Giants (C-1) - Break the wall to reveal the chest, Shurikens are the best method.
  • Temple of the Sun (E-4) - Toward the top of the screen, to the left of the mural, break the wall using Bombs.
  • Spring in the Sky (B-9) - Walk through the wall to the left of the ladder in the upper-left corner of the room. Continue left through the passage in (B-9) until you reach the end, then break the wall to reveal the chest.

  • Endless Corridor (C-3) - From the left side of the center platform, break the wall to the right of the gap in the floor.
  • Shrine of the Mother (B-5) - The third statue down can be destroyed with the Katana. (Also works in the True Shrine of the Mother)
  • Gate of Illusion (A-4) - Destroy the wall in the lower-right corner with the Katana to reveal the chest. If you do not have the Bombs the chest will be empty.
  • Gate of Illusion (F-6) - Destroy the wall to the left of the tall ladder to reveal the chest. Don't open it until you return by dropping down from (F-5) and jumping over the ladder to get to it.
  • Graveyard of the Giants (C-1) - Break the upper-right wall to reveal the chest.

Xelpud's Pen Pal

- Got all emails.
- 42 Mails in total, check out the excellent list here: http://lamulana-remake.wikia.com/wiki/E-mails

Let's Go Together!

- Watched the ending with the entire cast present.
- Now we get to the insane people achievements. You need to do ALL of the other blue achievements in a single playthrough (except anything related to Hell Temple for this one).

Here is the current World Record Speedrun for 100% All Characters:

Playful but Lonely

- Everyone's here, but only you feel like it's summer.
- Have the entire cast present and do not talk to Mulbruk after beating Hell Temple.

Running out in the open!

- Everyone in the ending has that summer feeling.
- Have the entire cast present and talk to Mulbruk after beating Hell Temple.
White ("Trivial", A.K.A. Hardest)
Most of these are super easy but three are insane.

16/64 White

Watch Where You're Whipping

- Received damnation.
- Get blased by one of the eyes that shoot lightning for hitting "sacred" things. It's borderline impossible to miss this.

Dive Deep Down

- Dived into a pot.
- Go to the Mausoleum of the Giants (D-5) and jump on top of the pot on the right-side of the room, once on top press down and you will dive into the pot, it will take you out at the Spring in the Sky (C-5). You can use this during the end-game escape scene too.

The Penitent Man

- Took a knee.
- Go to the Gate of Illusion (E-5) and break the left-most pot, stand where the pot once was and press down. Required to progress I think?

The World Of 8-BIT

- Opened the entrance to The Gate of Time.
- Take a Key Fairy to the Chamber of Extinction (G-5) and she will summon the entrance to the Gate of Time by flipping the door over there.

Once You Read It, You Can Never Go Back

- I warned you.
- Go to the Mausoleum of the Giants (D-1) and read the tablet in the top-right corner once.

Dear Foolish Adventurer

- Started HARD MODE
- Go to the Mausoleum of the Giants (D-1) and read the tablet in the top-right corner twice. Hard mode makes bosses tougher and puts more random enemies into the game.

This Is La-Mulana: Part I

- Flattened by a falling giant.
- To start off you have to go to the Mausoleum of the Giants (E-6) and switch the dial so that it is on stars. Once that has been done head to (G-4) and move forward so that when the giant falls over you will get flattened. You can earn this one and live through it if you do it way later in the game with 200+ HP.

This Is La-Mulana: Part II

- Squashed by the falling sun.
- Go to the Temple of the Sun (E-3) and whip the large sun face until it falls, stand either to the left, or direclty underneath it to get squashed. Better wear sunblock next time~

This Is La-Mulana: Part III

- Surprised Shunderia.
- Go to the Gate of Illusion (D-4) and defeat Chi You, when the chest appears open it and stand under the large platform, after a few seconds it will fall and crush you. Who is Shunderia?

This Is La-Mulana: Part IV

- Smooshed by a Super Punch.
- Go to Hell Temple (D-5) and place a weight on the dais, then try and leave the room through the normal exit, you will get slugged in the face like the little wuss you are. There is another punch trap in room (B-7), but ONLY the one in (D-5) will work for this achievement.

The Gate To Hell Has Opened

- Unlocked the HELL TEMPLE.
- Follow these steps while only speaking to the NPCs which are specifically mentioned and without saving your game (using your holy grail is fine):
- Video guide:
  • You must defeat all eight Guardians.
  • Talk to Mulbruk.
  • Jump on the head's mouth in Gate of Guidance (C-4). Enter it and talk to Dracuet. WARNING: If you fail to solve the puzzle to remove the block here before obliterating all of the bosses it may cause Hell Temple to become forever locked.
  • Sleep (pause and wait) in front of the statue at the Surface (I-3). It should turn to night.
  • Talk to Xelpud while it's dark.
  • While it's still night, go to (K-2) (partway down the waterfall). You should be able to go through the wall to the left of the hut. There is a secret door at the end of this passage; enter it to get more directions from a fairy.
  • Summon a Key Fairy and bring it to Gate of Illusion (C-5). It will flip the previously inaccessible door over so that you can enter it (the Gate of Time).
  • Enter the door to the Gate of Time and Jump up the ladder at (D-2) then move right into the wall. Unlike the original game, the secret door here is hiding all the way to the right.
  • Go to where Palenque's mural was in Chamber of Extinction (I-3) and jump inside of it. You will be warped to a lava pit. This is screen 1. Jump into the lava pit and drop down for 19 screen transitions. On screen 20, to the lower-right side, use your whip to break a portion of the wall. Enter the door, and then enter the door after that one. If you miss and go down one more screen, you go back to screen 11 and will need to fall down 9 more again.
  • Hell Temple can be found in Gate of Guidance (E-2) in the gap between the skeletons on the right. The door is a bit farther to the right (and it's not hidden by the dark this time; you literally enter the wall).
Curry Addict

- Ate curry in a variety of situations.
- This one is fun. You have to pause your game and wait for Lemeza to fall asleep (and then wait a bit more for the Zs to slow down) in the following ten situations:
  • Stunned and uncontrollable after going thud on a ground after a long fall
  • Stunned and uncontrollable after taking damage
  • Standing in the hot spring
  • Swimming in water (not standing)
  • Swimming in lava (not standing)
  • Sliding on ice (not standing)
  • Mother phase 1 (first music) (possibly may work during other guardians?)
  • Mother phase 2-5 (second music)
  • Ending escape sequence, after the timer appears
  • Anything that doesn't qualify for one of the other situations, such as standing around on the surface
I Love Hot Springs!

- Bathed in the hot springs 100 times.
- This one is annoying to grind, I recommend basically ignoring it and playing the game as normal. You must use a hot spring 100 times, you can use both the one at the Surface (D-4) and the Graveyard of the Giants (A-2), they both count towards the goal. You can't just jump quickly in and out of a hot spring to make this happen. It seems that your health has to be below some threshold (maybe 50%? (Unconfirmed)).

Mulbruk Text Dump (Story 1)
  1. My name is Mulbruk. By order of the Four Philosophers, I, Mulbruk await the strong one. Under the divine protection of Isis, my life is preserved in an eternal slumber. In accordance with the ancient contract, I shall lend my powers to the one who awakens me.
  2. Hmm? Yawn, Mulbruk slept well. Oh? Are you the one who woke me? I see. Then I'll led you a hand... yaaawn. Hmph. Mulbruk will help you, but still terribly sleepy. For now, here is some useful information. Wedjet is another name for the God Horus. Horus is the God that the fifth children worshiped. It's an eye that supposedly sees everything from on high. See? Mulbruk knows pretty much anything! Yaaaawn. Sorry, sleepy. Going to sleep for a while. See you later.
  3. Mulbruk is sleepy.
  4. Mulbruk is still sleepy.
  5. Mulbruk finally starting to wake up. Mulbruk is the daughter of an excellent tailor, and one of the race of the Four Philosophers. Father worked for the Philosophers, so naturally Mulbruk served them as well. Mulbruk was chosen to be your helper because of her excellence. So if you run into any problems, come see me. Mulbruk cannot move, to preserve eternal life.
  6. An enemy that sucks life? Does it happen to have a dog-like head? That's probably Anubis. It seems he's the god of the dead. If you had what's known as the Book of the Dead, then it wouldn't be able to suck your life. But Mulbruk don't know where that is. Oh. What Mulbruk have in Mulbruk's hand right now is the Book of the Dead. So here, you can have it. Need me to repeat?
    Yes please.
    No thank you.
    - Then Mulbruk going back to sleep.
  7. The lava's hot? Duh. But even if you tell Mulbruk to do something about it, there's nothing Mulbruk can do. Oh. Mulbruk heard there is a cape that can block the heat from the lava. Mulbruk think it's at the very back of the cave with the lava. You'll have to go with the intention of dying. Hahaha. Need me to repeat?
    Yes please.
    No thank you.
    - Then Mulbruk going back to sleep.
  8. A field covered in darkness you say? Actually, that's right next door. Mulbruk think there's a way to make it bright, but it's difficult. First you have to solve the riddle of the God of the Light in the Chamber of Birth, then there will be a change in the Chamber of Extinction. It's still far ahead. Be patient and don't be hasty! Need me to repeat?
    Yes please.
    No thank you.
    - Then Mulbruk going back to sleep.
  9. A corridor that never ends you say? But that's the Endless Corridor. Of course it would never end. But if you had the Key of Eternity then you could travel deep inside. But even deep inside, it's still endless! It's brilliant. Need me to repeat?
    Yes please.
    No thank you.
    - Then Mulbruk going back to sleep.
  10. A moving floor in the Twin Labyrinth that doesn't move? I believe it was the third children that created those ruins. The third children had wings, you know. They were about as smart as me, and figured out a way to make floating floors. They wouldn't need that if they had wings! Perhaps its fallen into disrepair, as it is old. Stomping on it might help! Stomp on it high above and maybe it'll move. Need me to repeat?
    Yes please.
    No thank you.
    - Then Mulbruk going back to sleep.
  11. Did you meet the Fairy Queen? The fairies, too, live inside these ruins to help you. They'll relieve your fatigue, but amongst them is also a fairy that holds a key. Apparently, it is a key that unlocks some trap. When you find it, take it to the puzzle you failed to solve.
  12. That thing you have, it's called a laptop, correct? How fancy. Mulbruk has seen something similar before. There's a wall with directions on how to make one of those things move written on it. Need me to repeat?
    Yes please.
    No thank you.
    - Then Mulbruk going back to sleep.
  13. You can't climb the Tower of the Goddess you say? Weakling! There was some trick to easily climb to the top. Wasn't there a flying machine floating around? Why don't you use that? But before that, you should try your best to climb it yourself. Need me to repeat?
    Yes please.
    No thank you.
    - Then Mulbruk going back to sleep.
  14. The Chamber of Birth you say? Mulbruk thinks that's where the sixth children lived. They were born from clay, those people. They worshiped very unique gods there. Shiva, the God of Destruction, Vishnu, the god that sustains the world, Brahma, the God of Creation, and others. Shiva's wife Parvati has multiple personalities, and she sometimes turns into the God of War. Need me to repeat?
    Yes please.
    No thank you.
    - Then Mulbruk going back to sleep.
  15. You want to know more about the Gods in the Chamber of Birth, you say? Okay, Mulbruk try her best to teach you. There's the God of Water Saraswati, the God of Harvest Lakshmi, the God of Scholars Ganesha, the God of Blood and Battle Kali, and who else... Mulbruk sleepy. You'll have to go there and see for yourself what each god looks like. Why don't you use a magnifying glass? Need me to repeat?
    Yes please.
    No thank you.
    - Good night.
  16. Mulbruk sleeping right now. Don't wake me. Stop it!
  17. That Woman Statue you have. You finally found it. The Four Philosophers are waiting. Now make sure that woman is with child, then sleep within the woman. What are you thinking, you dirty pervert. ...That reminds me, you always fall asleep right after you eat. You'll turn into a cow if you keep that up, you know. Need me to repeat?
    Yes please.
    No thank you.
    - Then Mulbruk going back to sleep.
  18. That ocarina you have. Actually, isn't that the Philosopher's Ocarina? Ah... The Philosophers are finally awake. My role here may soon come to an end. Need me to repeat?
    Yes please.
    No thank you.
    - Then Mulbruk going back to sleep.
  19. When you are able to solve all of the puzzles in the ruins is when the great Mother will sleep forever. It's also said that the ruins will perish. Although Mulbruk can't move from here.
  20. The day the ruins disappear, is the day my role will come to an end. In that case, Mulbruk don't want to be immortal. Mulbruk want live a normal life in the outside world.
  21. When the ruins fall apart, will you come save me?
  22. The Holy Grail you have holds a hidden power. Once you have filled it with the memories of all the lands, power will dwell in the Holy Grail. Apparently the Holy Grail is the only way to receive the powers of the great Mother.
  23. The first children were snakes from their belly down. Perhaps they were the closest to the Mother's true form. They worshiped the Mother as god, but they didn't understand her wishes. They wanted the Mother's powers and imitated her, but they failed miserably. It seems they were then destroyed by the second children.
  24. The second children were Giants. Being so big, they were good at making things. Most of the lands within these ruins were built by the Giants. They had the knowledge to return the Mother to the skies, and even made a flying tower for her, but the tower was not strong enough to lift the Mother's large body. Eventually the leaders began to fight amongst themselves, and were then chased away by the third children. The Giants fled to the land they created in order to cool down the tower, and perished there. Mulbruk heard some Giants escaped to the Surface. Have you heard of any rumors?

Mulbruk Text Dump (Story 2/Random)
  1. The third children were winged, and flying came naturally to them. They were smart, and spread to the Surface using the wisdom of civilizations past. But overpopulation became a problem, and they eventually split into demons and angels, starting a war. They completely forgot about returning the Mother to the heavens. Instead they created a country somewhere on the Surface, but most of it was flooded by the Mother in her wrath, sinking beneath the sea. They then caused an eruption in the ruins, and were destroyed all at once.
  2. The fourth children had the bodies of fish so that they could survive on the land under the sea. As they were fish, they did not have the ability to fly. They had inherited the civilizations of children past, but once they passed their knowledge on to the fifth children, they lost their purpose.
  3. The fifth children did not have wings. They weren't fish or snakes or Giants. Just regular people. They had knowledge of the skies, and could make huge pyramids by themselves. But they were too ambitious, trying to become gods, seeking immortality, or creating humans out of clay, and the Mother's wrath was felt yet again. The Mother disrupted the language of the fifth children. But as a result, multiple civilizations were born from one generation of children.
  4. The sixth children were born of the tree of life that the fifth children left behind. They were born of clay. They multiplied steadily. Giants were born, and they even made vehicles that could fly. They connected these ruins, tried to bring the Giants back to life and went to war out on the Surface. It's really not clear what exactly this generation was trying to accomplish. Maybe because they were born of clay?
  5. The seventh children includes myself, the Philosophers, and the villagers living outside the ruins. We were also born of the tree of life. But the tree of life was empowered by the Mother, and possessed advanced knowledge. With that knowledge, we arrived at the conclusion to wish for the Mother's death... But we did not have the strength. We searched the history of these ruins, and lived a simple life among nature so that the Mother would not destroy us. And thus our decision to create the eighth children, who would posses both knowledge and power but would not know the Mother. That is your generation. The Philosophers turned their bodies to stone, and waited for someone with strength to appear from amongst you. Someone with the strength to overcome all of the obstacles these ruins present. That is all Mulbruk knows of the history of these ruins. Could you possibly be that strong one, who can put an end to all this?
  6. But the Mother has not been creating children on her own since the fifth children. Maybe her powers are weakening. Or maybe she can make other children. Will everything end once she is defeated, and the ruins sealed? Mulbruk scared.
  7. You've been living in the ruins for quite some time now. Are you able to read the La-Mulana script without the help of a device? The numbers are easiest. Each number has its own meaning. 0 is nothing, 1 is beginning, 4 is death and... hmmm... 5 is rebirth, 6 is war, 7 is deceit... 8 is eternity, and 9 is ascension.... I can't remember 2 and 3.

Non-Story/Random

  1. Mmmgh! I can't eat any more.
  2. That one's big. I mean, really big. Wha! Mulbruk was asleep.
  3. Hmm. Mulbruk is sleepy. Just 100 years. Let me sleep for 100 more years.
  4. Give me food. Now that's what I call breakfast. Just slurp them raw from the tail. Whoa! Mulbruk was asleep.
  5. He's after me I tell you. That guy in the hat, he's going to get me... He wants Mulbruk... Wowee! Mulbruk was asleep.
  6. Ow, ow, ow. I'm tired, but stone floors make poor beds.
  7. My neck, my neck! Mulbruk pulled a muscle.
  8. Who's that old guy in glasses. He's got no business barging into Mulbruk's room like that. He must be after Mulbruk too... Yipe! Mulbruk was asleep.
  9. Mmph. What's up with that guy in the hat... Making an innocent girl like Mulbruk talk dirty like that... That's it, it must be that thing called sexual horseshoes...or whatever. Whaa? Mulbruk was asleep.
  10. Seriously, what's with everyone coming after me. Hrmmmm. I'll slap 'em all around good... Whoa! Mulbruk was asleep.
  11. Mister! You in the hat! Coming on to an innocent girl like me in my sleep... My allure is overpowering. Overpowering! Mah. Mulbruk was asleep. Really, she was!
  12. Noo~! The ruins are crumbling. It's caving in. Mulbruk getting out of here... Mulbruk's room leads outside... Hmmph...
  13. Idiot! You ignorant fool! Zzz...
  14. Ah, ah, ah... Oh. Oohhhh, ohhh. Put a stone on top of Mulbruk! Ohhh... Zzz...
  15. Hahahaha. Mulbruk is happy. Hahahahahahaha. Zzz...Zzz...
  16. So thi- thi- this... This is.... A hamburger...! Zzz.
  17. ...Wait! That doesn't count! Continue, continue...! Zzz... Snore.
  18. Grrr. Gr... Grrrrrr. Grrr!!
  19. Snort.
  20. Hehehe... Bow before Mulbruk, world! Hehehehe... Mulbruk is excellent! Zzz.

Xelpud Text Dump (Story)
  1. Welcome! You that Professor Lemeza, am I right? I think, er, I know what you're looking for--La-Mulana, right? Them ruins can be reached down by the outskirts of this village. Your father went in there to do his research, but he ain't been back for some days now. I ain't got a clue to what he's after, but since ancient times folks been passing rumors down about secret treasures. Heck, even the origin of life itself may be hiding inside these ruins. Generation after generation, we've protected La-Mulana. Even so, I don't really know what her secrets are. I won't stop you from entering the ruins, but mind you the mysteries of La-Mulana are unsolved because those who go in don't come back out, dead or alive. Who knows what happens to you... Anyway, I'll tell my people to open the entrance. Take a weight with you, too. By the way, that is one snazzy laptop! And it's made just for archeological exploration? This is amazing, so thin and light! And of course, looks like it's made in Japan. I hear they make good games there too. Oh, one last thing. Unlike your father, you look like you need a hand. Take this software; I developed it myself. It only gets incoming e-mails from me. You can't reply, but I'll send you all sorts of tips. Lemme see your laptop... Here we go, it's installed, but don't forget you gotta activate it from the software screen. And be sure to read all my e-mails. If I send you an e-mail telling you to come back to the village--well then--you best come back! Got it? Alrighty, you're all set now! Off you go!
  2. What are you still doing here? You ain't gone into the ruins yet? Ha ha, you aren't scared, are you?
  3. You made it! Actually, I called you back for no good reason. I'm just bored. Sorry, ha ha! Don't get all mad and rush off. Please, take a seat and eat some of my home made bat curry. Anyway, being an archeologist sure seems dangerous. Even after I warned you about the monsters and traps, you still went in them ruins. If you can solve all the puzzles without dying, you might actually meet the legendary Four Philosophers. If they actually exist... Mmmm, this curry sure is tasty! You wanna hear that again?
    Yes sir.
    No thanks.
    - Okay then.
  4. Hey! I told you in my e-mail to hurry back! I was just bored so I called you to come back. Hahaha. Now, now, no need to rush. Why don't you eat some of my homemade bat curry. But anway. Being an archeologist sure is dangerous. Even after saying that there are monsters and traps, you still go in the ruins. If you're able to solve all the puzzles without dying, then you might be able to meet the legendary four sages. I don't know if they really exist, though! Hahaha, this curry is tasty! Do you want to hear it again?
    Yes sir.
    No thanks.
    - Okay then.
  5. That Talisman... It belonged to your father. Your father went in them ruins and ain't come back since. Seems like he was researching something deep inside. You should look for your father's Diary. I'm sure he had it with him. There may be things about what he was studying written in it. What? You saw a guy in the ruins that looked like your father? That's crazy. It's been many days since he went in. You wanna hear that again?
    Yes sir.
    No thanks.
    - Look for the Diary, alright?
  6. Did you find the Diary? What? The treasure chest is hidden in a place that you can't get to? I see. Your father is a smart man. He must've gotten a good handle on the traps in the ruins. Okay, got it. Let me figure something out.
  7. Oh, so you're back. Hm? What's with that face. I told you, you don't need to worry about me. I'm an invincible old man. Now then, it looks like you found your father's Diary. All right. I'll explain everything. We are descendants of a race who sees the departing off. We are the seventh children of the Mother. We are the ones who sent off the last race to spring forth from and thrive in these ruins... or rather, the Mother. That's you, the last race, the eighth children, the humanity of present day, We are in charge of sending you all off. All of mankind and civilization were born here. Take this, the Mulana Talisman. I heard that if you have this, you can get your hands on the cursed treasure. Well then, go see the Four Philosophers, in your father's stead. You want me to repeat that?
    Yes sir.
    No thanks.
    - Go meet the Four Philosophers.
  8. Our race has continued to protect the ruins, following the teachings of the Four Philosophers that sleep within the ruins. The Four Philosophers realized the Mother's wish to return to the skies was not possible. Instead they hope to give her a peaceful death. This is the conclusion that we, the seventh children, at last settled on. It's sad, but we gotta entrust this task to you, the eighth children. I guess it just goes to show... that children will someday leave their parents. Your father was after the Mother's crystallized spirit, the Secret Treasure of Life. I hope that you can obtain it in your father's place. You wanna hear that again?
    Yes sir.
    No thanks.
    - Okay then.
  9. The wind sure is howling today...
  10. Oh good, you're still alive. What do you think, ain't the La-Mulana ruins huge? Many have gone in and never come back, but still there are lotsa areas that no one has ever entered.
  11. There you are. Got something I wanted to tell you. This here's a story that's been passed down in the village. "Those that set them complex traps in the ruins are waiting for the strong one." I don't know who's waiting. It's just an old legend. And I find it hard to believe that anyone could live in the ruins. But legend has it, someone sleeps within the ruins, waiting to help this strong one. I thought it might be good for you to keep an eye out for that sort of thing, since it seems your research is coming along. Of course, I have no idea where this "someone" is supposed to be sleeping! You wanna hear that again?
    Yes sir.
    No thanks.
    - Okay then.
  12. Well, I'll be. You found the sleeping one. The stories were true! What a surprise. And you say it was a young living girl? Lucky you! I feel ages younger already. But to think, such a girl was found alive. Just maybe there's some truth to the legend about the Four Philosophers that are waiting for the strong one. You wanna hear that again?
    Yes sir.
    No thanks.
    - Okay then.
  13. So you made it. Now, hurry up and go buy that newfangled laptop! And let me have a turn at it! With it you can install twice as many applications. I will install a ton of games for you!
  14. Take this, the Mulana Mulana Talisman. I heard that if you have this, you can get your hands on the cursed treasure. Well then, go see the Four Philosophers, in your father's stead. You want me to repeat that?
    Yes sir.
    No thanks.
    - Go meet the Four Philosophers.
Xelpud Text Dump (Held Item)
  1. That there thing you're holding, that's called the Djed Pillar. Infuse it with the power of words, and it will show their true worth. I actually have no idea what it's used for. Well, it probably changes words into power. Maybe you use it to chant spells?
  2. What's up with that dirty doll? You use it to prove you're a little man? That don't make a lick of sense. Why don't you try using it in a place that makes you look like a little man?
  3. Ooh, what's that? Magatama Jewel? They sure are round.
  4. Why, that's a Cog of the Soul. It's pretty much a key that's used to perform the forbidden art of bringing clay to life. I think you stick it somewhere to get a machine to move, but that's the kind of thing that you'd expect to be forbidden so... Maybe you shouldn't use it?
  5. Whoa, that's bright. What is that lamp? Ah, you bought the Lamp of Time. It's a strange lamp that can stop time. Oh, don't use it in front of me.
  6. That's a fancy pochette you got there. What? That's one of the things you found? What it for? Actually, I remember seeing a mural at the Gate of Guidance that had something just like that. In the mural, someone was riding a vehicle, and stuffed that pochette right into it.
  7. What's with that bone! It's creepy. And definitely cursed. Woo~ooo!
  8. That a Crystal Skull? That's what folks call an out-of-place-artifact, ain't it? It was made by chiseling a single piece of crystal. People still haven't figured out how these things were made so perfectly. There's a famous one at a museum in some country called England. I think they made a lousy movie out of one too... What? No I don't know what it's for.
  9. What's that? That is one dirty bucket. No one's going to buy that from you. Why on earth would you bring back a hunk-a-junk like that?
  10. Oh, what perfect timing. I was eating a bat salad, but I wanna add a bit of extra punch to the flavor. Gimme that Pepper. Ahh, it really brings out that bitter bat taste.
  11. That there's a clay figurine known as the Woman Statue. The forms actually pretty sexy. Hey, I may be old, but I can still kick it.
  12. Hey, hey. The Woman Statue. Her belly looks swollen. Like she's pregnant. I ain't into married women.
  13. What a strange key. Really Weird.
  14. Oh, so you came across the Serpent Staff. There's a monster called Argus near the altar on the edge of the village. We need to make an offering to the shrine, but that monster's in the way, and we can't take it down without the Serpent Staff. So really, this is perfect--get down there and take 'em out.
  15. I see you got a Hand Scanner. Good thing, since you need it to inspect skeletons and stone tablets. You can also inspect big ol' murals and statues.
  16. This here talisman has been protected by our people. It has been passed down, with instructions to give it to the one who takes on the last challenge of the La-Mulana ruins.

  1. I'm gaming right now. Don't bug me.
  2. Oh-ho! How's the exploration going? If it's going well, it's all thanks to my e-mails.
  3. What the?!? I was just in the middle of writing you an email! Ugh, what am I supposed to do when you show up before I even get a chance to send it? Work with me, son!
  4. No!! Argh, I'm only on stage two and the boss just killed me. If only you hadn't barged in like that!
  5. Gah! Noo, I died again at that second boss. I-i-t, it's all your... Waah!!
  6. Oh! Oh n-no, not at all-ah, it's not what it looks like. I mean, I'm not looking at anything dirty or all perverted-like! Just... Ah, get out of here!
  7. This sucks... I give up. The stage two boss is too tough... It's just not fair, he's got two swords...
  8. Having a tough time in these parts of the ruins? You got the wrath o' god when you try to inspect walls, don'cha? But of course, if you're in an area with no eye-ball murals to punish you, you can hit any wall you want.
  9. Always feels good to soak in the hot springs on the outskirts of the village, don't it? It looks like you can dig up some hot springs in this area. Perhaps there are some in the ruins.
  10. Man, this game is boring. So many hints! Now where's the challenge in that?
  11. I~ am~ the Elder~♪ I~ am~ important~♪
  12. I'm hungry.
  13. This demo is way too long.
  14. The good action games are the ones that make you jump around in your seat!
  15. Oh I wish I was rich.
  16. I think we could make some real good money if we turn these here ruins into a tourist spot.
  17. Actually, I'm the final boss in this game. Naw, I'm just messin' with ya.
  18. There's actually a hidden dungeon underneath my home. Naw, just kidding.
  19. If enough people think this game is fun, there might be a sequel. ...yeah, right!
  20. I'm actually a girl. If you finish the game, you'll get real *special* photo of me. Just kidding.
  21. I'm so bored so bored so bored. Hey you, make a funny face.
  22. I want to play a shooter game. There aren't too many new shooter games these days.
  23. There's this game I wanna download but I don't have enough points on my card. You, go to the next town and buy me $10 worth of points. The town? It's only 100 miles away.
  24. What, you worrying about my gaming addiction? I'm fine, I'm fine, I can quit anytime I want... just not today.
  25. I'm thinking about turning the ruins into a tourist destination. We could take foreigners' money, sell them souvenirs... ahehehe... I could even round up some candidates for a harem, wha'dya think?
  26. You seem awfully busy. Shouldn't you take it easy a bit?
  27. Ugh... My arms hurt from sending too many e-mails. I need to pace myself.
  28. I'm always watching over you. Tee-hee.
Thank You

100% and of course the last conversation that I needed was the Mulbruk statue conversation while unlocking Hell Temple. Great game 11/10, the developers put me into misery for 5 long years and now I am finally done with both games (La-Mulana 2 too) 100%.

As always have a wonderful day.

Finally, after so many times of going through all the spots of the "Archaelogical Authority" I finally found the last spot that I needed today.

In Endless Corridor D-2 the mural closest to the stairs leading from the second to the third floor got me the achievement.

Thank you very much for this guide and now I finally have the motivation to get the final two achievements (Mulbruk Text Dump and Xelpud Text Dump).

If you are reading this, have a nice day :curry::lunchtime:

Tablet of the Flood/Wind/Fire/Downpour of Blood and Fire don't count as scans

Neither the elephant statue in Chamber of Extinction ("Elephant idols are sacred").
chaobreaker 21 Dec, 2023 @ 8:30am
The unaccounted text dumps in "Archaeological Authority (Part 3)" were the two wedges from Twin Labyrinths and Graveyard from the Giants that you can't scan because they're stuck on walls.

"[Research Mode] There is a small opening in the stone wall." is from Spring of the Sky D-4

"[Research Mode] There is a small opening in the wall." is from Tower of the Goddess D-2 and D-4

Great guide thanks man, helped me get 100% and find peace on my tiny island.
SmashTom 15 Jun, 2017 @ 4:08pm
Hm well, for some reason the game didn't 'register' me opening the chest in the Spring in the Sky. I opened it from the bottom (while in the water) but didn't actually go to where the chest was. So I did that earlier; then finished off Mother (again) and once I opened the chest in the escape sequence the achievement popped. Weird...
SmashTom 15 Jun, 2017 @ 12:26pm
I'm pretty sure I opened up all the brown chests (containing coins) and yet my achievement isn't popping up. Is this a bug? Is there a tiny detail I'm missing? I double-checked all locations and even did the Mother fight twice just to confirm I did pick up the one chest in the Twin Labyrinth during the escape sequence...

I have a bit of info regarding Run To Ruin

I accidently went into A3 taking the shortcut in D3 because I'm an idiot and ended up getting the achievement.
So I'm guessing the actual requirement is to entire D3 from A3, not actually taking the entire long way.
