FPS+ Light Performance Boost Guide (for VR Mode)
By ArchieTheRaccoon
Having low framerate count in Neos VR and you want to squeeze everything you can out of this game without loosing any quality to have a smoother experience while playing it in VR? This is the guide for you then :3

1. Configuring Steam VR Settings (Most important)
Please do remember, that this wouldn't help everyone. It all depends on how stable your FPS counter is and some other things. But you can at least try this one:

1. Basically just go into your Steam VR settings
2. Open "Video" tab
3. Click on the "PER-APPLICATION VIDEO SETTINGS"
4. Switch "Throttling Behavior" from "Auto" to "Fixed".
5. Depending on your FPS counter - Adjust the "Lock application framerate to" slider.

Basically usually keep it on 90. But if you're having performance issues and your FPS (for example) is jumping around 30-40 - put this setting on 30. It doesn't look nice when FPS is jumping all over the place, trust me.

Also some people say it looks much better with "Motion Smoothing" turned off (In the "Video" tab of Steam VR Settings), so you can try that as well.

2. Minimizing Neos window (Most important)
I couldn't believe that as well, but turns out Neos VR works a little bit different from other games. Usually it is recommended to keep games in focus to have more FPS. IT IS NOT THE CASE FOR NEOS VR!

For better performance it's better to actually minimize the Neos VR window, because it basically just disables rendering of that unnecesary window. (Unless you need to record Neos VR or screenshare your game into Discord and blabla...)

Also in case if your game is in fullscreen mode and you don't know how to minimize it -> press Alt + Enter. It switches between fullscreen and windowed mode.
3. Setting High Priority
The easiest solution would be to set High Priority for Neos VR in Task Manager, but it has a downside that it will always reset itself to Normal Priority after you restart Neos VR.

I personally use a dedicated program called Process Lasso[bitsum.com]. But it's your choice how exactly you do that.

I must also say that NOT a lot of people felt any changes after they did that, but it just ensures that, if you have any other software on your PC opened that is trying to pull the performance blanket, it will prioritise Neos VR. But personally (I think) it's better if you just try to not have many programs opened while you're in Neos VR to ensure stability.
4. Disabling Motion Blur (If it's turned on in VR Mode)
This doesn't apply to everyone. I just, for some reasons, had a motion blur enabled IN VR MODE. Which you would NEVER want. That thing literally does make me feel like i'm in a jelly and that's really not pleasant. We want to disable that.

To do that we need to install a mod for Neos VR called PhotonicFreedom. I'll leave here a guide on how to install Neos VR mods: How to Install mods on Neos VR[github.com], and here the link to this mod: PhotonicFreedom[github.com].

Once you installed it -> just uncheck the "Motion Blur" in your settings.

Alternatively, if you don't want any of those features that PhotonicFreedom mod gives you and you want to JUST disable the motionblur - you can install a different mod called MotionBlurDIsable[github.com] which... well... does what it says :D
5. Improvements for IK Calculations
So, there's also a big performance issue the more and more people you have around you, since Neos VR has to do a lot of calculations for the body movements (aka IK).

Good news is that we also have a mod for that: IkCulling[github.com]
In the previous section I have left a link for a guide on how to install Neos VR mods.

This mod makes it so your Neos Client wont process IK calculations for people that are far away from you or that you can't see.
Final
I personally, with help of those steps, was able to jump from having 31 FPS to having 80-90 FPS and didn't loose ANY quality whatsoever! I hope this guide will be helpful to someone, feel free to post a comment if it helped you or overall your feedback on it ^^

Byeeee! :D

Need a guide for non-VR boost. I see now I can disable that motion blur, but I would like to find a way to decrease quality and screen resolution. 5 FPS on 1920x1080, srsly!

@Orangestar, that fork you linked does not actually have any downloadable DLL files, and the link in the description just downloads the same archived read-only repository's DLL, so there's no use of it unless you know how to compile it lol

For those unable to find the purple-colored settings in the first step, enable advanced settings in SteamVR.

Thanks for the tutorial!! I can't seem to find either of the settings you referred to in the first step though. Are they hardware-dependent? (I'm using a basic Oculus Rift)
