The prototype was built to study the feasibility and practicality of variable geometry technology on Kerbin. Studies have shown that this configuration is achievable, but impractical, because the aircraft can only withstand G forces when the wings are folded, at which the drag will be counterintuitively increased.

The Variable Geometry Configuration Testbed, internally codenamed 9P003, was developed entirely independently by Kebal Central Institute of Aerohydrodynamics, the largest aircraft manufacturer in South Kerbin. It was the first successful twin-engine heavy variable geometry vehicle on the planet. Its complex and sophisticated variable sweepback system draws all its technical expertise from the legendary 9P002A1 testbed and the Object 728 "Gemini".

The program faced several challenges back in the days it was initiated. One critical technical problem was that the wings wobble under large G forces was almost impossible to suppress. Through countless redesigns and test flights, genius engineer @天才小敏敏 eventually figured out a way to get the leading edge of the wings to cut the airflow at an angle of almost 90 degrees to eliminate wobbling.

@sixftunder23 Yes, I've also encountered this problem, which took me 1 week to get it solved on the prototypes. Basically you need to find a perfect angle for the windward side of the very front of the wings.

my plane is kinda like this, except it just backflips and stalls, then recovers in like 5 seconds somehow

I felt the g-force when I saw them bending. Jesus christ

I sure do love flying a giant boxy aircraft with air-intakes the size of an elephant
