Introduction
These builds are not ideal, but they are quite effective.

What does "UNIVERSAL" mean? It means you can do pretty much any mission with these bulds.

Main tasks - things a build is best suited for.
Main targets - targets a build is best equipped to deal with.

DRILLER with CRYO CANNON
Main tasks:
  • Drilling tunnels, passages, making bunkers - all things terrain.
  • Crowd control.
Main targets:
  • Big groups of walking enemies.
  • Assisting in destroying big targets by slowing/freezing them (detonators, oppressors, praetorians).
Notes:
  • Use the WAVE COOKER on frozen enemies for better efficiency.
  • In my opinion, this build is the most suitable for playing with others, because frozen enemies take more damage, thus you make the work in dealing with enemies easier for other players.
  • But, take note that fire damage is a frequently used type of damage in weapons and it can negate your freezing power.
DRILLER with FLAMETHROWER
Main tasks:
  • Drilling tunnels, passages, making bunkers - all things terrain.
  • Crowd control.
Main targets:
  • Walking enemies.
  • Assisting in destroying big targets by slowing them (detonators, oppressors, praetorians).
Notes:
  • Use the WAVE COOKER on burning enemies for better efficiency.
  • Feels less effective than the cryo cannon build.
DRILLER with CORROSIVE SLUDGE PUMP
Main tasks:
  • Drilling tunnels, passages, making bunkers - all things terrain.
  • Crowd control.
Main targets:
  • Big groups of walking enemies.
  • Assisting in destroying big targets by slowing them (detonators, oppressors, praetorians).
Notes:
  • Easiest to use out of the 3 driller builds because it doesn't require manual spreading of the damaging substance.
  • Feels the weakest of the 3 driller builds.
ENGINEER
Main tasks:
  • Helping in mineral collection by placing platforms (mainly for scout if present).
  • Close range crowd control using EM DISCHARGE overclock.
Main targets:
  • All walking enemies in close range (except detonator, for it use diffractor at distance).
  • Flying/special enemies (use diffractor).
Notes:
  • The SMG should mainly be used on turrets for better ammo efficiency.
  • The throwable is flexible.
GUNNER
Main tasks:
  • Eliminating all enemies ASAP.
  • Helping teammates move with the ziplines.
Main targets:
  • Any enemies you see.
Notes:
  • Easy to use against dreadnoughts - use this build on solo elimination missions.
  • The MORTAR ROUNDS overclock allows disregarding weakspots. You just have to land shots close to your targets.
  • The COIL GUN shoots through armor, except maybe regular dreagnought's sometimes.
  • If teammates highlight enemies, you can shoot them through walls with COIL GUN.
  • Main drawback - with MORTAR ROUNDS, the shots are slow and arc a lot.
SCOUT
Main tasks:
  • Collecting minerals.
  • Dealing with special enemies - wardens, menaces etc. Also flying enemies.
  • Lighting up the area.
Main targets:
  • Flying enemies.
  • Special enemies.
Notes:
  • The shotgun is for dealing with crowds when they try to engulf you.
  • The throwable is flexible.
[OLD] SCOUT
Main tasks:
  • Collecting minerals
  • Taking out special enemines (menace, spitters etc.)
Main targets:
  • Special enemies (menace, spitters etc.)
  • Slashers
[OLD] GUNNER
Main tasks:
  • Fire support for the team
Main targets:
  • Everything
Notes:
All-around build. Can damage anything. Pistol is for macteras and special enemies.
Take 50% damage reduction as Thunderhead's last mod if you're struggling with survival.
[OLD] DRILLER
Main tasks:
  • Crowd control
  • Drilling passages, drilling to the drop pod
  • Making bunkers (on salvage operation etc.)
Main targets:
  • Everything up to praetorians (oppressors with Colette Wave Cooker with Boiler Ray)
Notes:
  • Sticky flames deal with swarms easily
  • Secondary pistol is for macteras and stunning evasive targets (menace, warden etc.).
  • Weak against dreadnoughts.
  • Vampire perk + impact axe is a good way of self-revive, just kill a grunt with an axe after using iron will
How to deal with praetorians:
  • Spread the flames under them
  • Stun them with the secondary pistol
  • They take damage from being on fire and from sticky flames and die rather quickly

UPDATE:
I tend to take Colette Wave Cooker[deeprockgalactic.fandom.com] with me more often now and take Boiler Ray mod, this way Oppressors on fire will melt easily too. The weapon is not much worse against macteras as well.
[OLD] ENGINEER with Deepcore 40MM (Fat Boy)
Main tasks:
  • Helping scout collect minerals with platforms
  • Crowd control
Main targets:
  • Everything up to praetorians
Notes:
The build revolves around SMG's discharge overclock. I usually don't shoot bugs with SMG directly because it deals less damage per ammo spent this way from my experience.
Fat Boy is panic button for huge swarms after spawn or in tight passages.
[OLD] ENGINEER with Breach Cutter
Main tasks:
  • Helping scout collect minerals with platforms
  • Crowd control
Main targets:
  • Everything up to praetorians
Notes:
The build revolves around SMG's discharge overclock. I usually don't shoot bugs with SMG directly because it deals less damage per ammo spent this way from my experience.
Better than Fat Boy build for solo missions.
