NOTICE!!!
I found a good replacement LUT, SpitfireLUT. Please make sure to read the instructions to get the right color balance in the Takeno Theme and LUT Collection.

Description
Are you bored with building large metropolises? Wanting to build something more small and rural? Then this map is for you!

This is Takeno, a map loosely-based on the real-life town of Takeno, located in the northern coastal region of the Hyogo Prefecture in Japan.

Caution: This is meant to played as a left-hand map, but there shouldn't be any issues with playing it right handed.

Extra Caution: This is a modder's map. Lots of fine tuning and adjustments need to be done on the user's end with mods.

Extra Extra Caution: Please subscribe to the assets and mods in the collections as well!

Features
A fertile valley nestled between 2 forest-clad mountains and a coastline.

2 small beaches and one long beach along the coast.

A hot spring in the western mountain (there isn't one ther in real-life, but thought it would be fun to add one anyway).

A lighthouse at the tip of the northern peninsula.

The map uses 84,012 trees. Coupled with the map's small size, this mean the forests in the mountains are very dense (as they are in the real-life location).

Resources
No oil or ore, but plenty of forestry with fertile land in between. A splotch of fertile land can be found at the mountain base, but you'll need to clear the trees to access it.
For fish, we have salmon, shellfish and anchovies.

Connections
4 road connections. A two-lane rural road travels north/south along the map, and splits East and West along the coast.
A smaller road branches off the main route and snakes up the mountainside into a tunnel in the east.

1 ship connection. The ship route starts north and goes West of the peninsula, then branches off into two potential port locations.

2 air connections. The route travels north/south. (Meant purely for the aesthetic of having planes fly over. Not meant for actually building an airport).

2 rail "connections". A small single rail that exits from a tunnel from the tunnel in the East, travels down the mountainside and along the river, then turns west towards another tunnel near the steep coast. (More on this Later).

Gameplay Tips
This map is small. Very small. Spanning over only 3 full tiles and a few partial tiles, only 29% of the map is buildable (that's including the parts of the terrain that is hidden and NOT meant to be played on). It will be a challenge to build a thriving town here, but that's the point of this map. Challenge. Follow these tips to make the most out of the small area.

1) The game doesn't know the first thing about rural traffic, so I highly recommend using AdvancedOutsideConnection mod to LOWER the amount of outside traffic. Set the dummy traffic and resident/cargo capacities values to 5-20, and you'll get much more quiet thru traffic that is more represntative of a rural area.

2) Use Realistic Population and Consumption mod. Ideally, your residential areas should be mostly low-density to fit the rural town aesthetic, so use this mod to make sure only 1 family is living in each house. Otherwise, the population will be 2x-3x the reasonable size and overtax your roads and services.

3) The track is only a single track, so be careful not to run too many trains on it (one should probably be enough). Use Single Train Track AI to prevent trains from blocking each other on the track. Of course, you can go through the effort of upgrading them to a double rail if you like. I would also suggest subscribing to a short one-two car train.

4) Not every town has the means to provide their own infrastructure and services such as powerplants and hospitals, especially with such limited space. Sadly, the game doesn't simulate your town using services of larger outside cities. Every city has to be fully self-sufficient. So to remedy this, I recommend using Naylin's Block Services. Place these near the road outside connections, and it'll simulate your town being serviced from the outside! Cims will even travel to them, (provided that they're buildings that cims will normally travel to, like work or school). The map already comes with an electricity block service, with a powerline running through to boot, so you'll already have a headstart.

Regarding the rail "connections"
The rail connections aren't actually outside connections. At each end of the rail is a small station track. Next to these tracks are Incoming Resident Spawners. These spawners behave as passenger-only outside connections, and spawns residents and tourists in correlation to your residential demand and attractiveness.

To have residents and tourists come in by train, you must run a train line from one outside station, to your city station, to the next outside station, and back again.

The reason for building the rail like this is to give you full control over the rail routes, as the auto-spawned trains will likely be inconsistent and clog up the rail network.

Also near the outside stations are a strip of road. Use these to place block services to simulate your citizens commuting out of town by train for work/school.

Also note the footpath surrounding the stations. These allow the stations to function properly. Be mindful not to delete them (of course you can replace it if you do).

Easter Egg Hunt
Hidden around the map are 6 vignettes of people's everyday lives, to breathe life to what's devoid of it. Read the clues and find them all. Subscribe to Takeno Custom Props to participate!
You must enable Procedural Objects for these props to show up.

CLUES: Skip if you want to find them on your own.
1) A story love, both requited and unrequited, unfolds under the shadows of the beacon.

2) Train commuters have reported seeing a strange-looking tanuki in the forest. A bizarre, yet harmless, example of a playful childhood.

3) The vast beach provides a respite for relaxation. Look up into the sky, love, and enjoy your holiday.

4) This plush of a servant was said to fulfill all pleasures. When it proved the opposite, it was promptly thrown out of a southbound car. Rest easy under the crackling tower, young Rider of "Black."

5) Even animals have the desire peer over the blue to contemplate existential matters. Man.

6) Visiting the forest's steaming pool comes with a risk. Unbeknownst to the bathing bird, a most precious garment is nabbed.

Disclaimer:
Keep in mind that I'm not a painter/detailer and I mostly go for gameplay. I tried my best to make the map look pretty, and having fun while doing so! I just wanted to make a challenging-looking map for myself, and thought it'll be nice to share with the rest of you.

Let me know if there's any issues with the map. This is probably the first map of it's kind, so there may be some that I missed.

SPECIAL THANKS
to Delta 5-1 for letting me retexture one of their Vanilla+ Roads!

I really hope you enjoy this map! Have fun! Good luck and happy building!
