Whether we collectively like it or not horde mode now includes a noble which must be protected by the players. This new horde mode requires a lot more teamwork, whereas in the old horde mode working as a team could potentially get you killed. As such, this short guide is meant to point to factors that help build teamwork and factors that destroy teamwork. A successful team will more than likely complete all 21 waves of horde mode.

• Some of the material in this guide may be more useful as you get to know the game better. Higher level players can adjust to your level and aren't expecting you to be godlike.
  
• Try different weapons, try different perks, etc. until you find something that suits you.
  
• Dying, defeat, mistakes, etc. are all a part of the learning process. Everyone starts off as a newbie and develops skill over time.
  
• Have fun and be lighthearted. Frustration will happen but don't allow it to ruin your experience.

Communication - the most vital and helpful tool that ensures success is communicating with other players. The Mordhau community is a mixed bag, however you and your fellow players are united in the common goals of wanting to have fun and succeed.

• Let other players know what "class" you are planning on choosing. Having 3 Rangers and 1 Support is probably not going to work.
  
• If you don't know where something is just ask.
  
• If you are struggling do not be afraid to ask for assistance.
  
• Encourage other players. You don't have to actually type in chat to do this. But utilizing the 'salute' emoji or character 'respect' saying is definitely a confidence booster. 'Laughter' at the end of a wave is also celebratory.

Balanced Team - although you can choose perks from different branches, meaning there are no strict classes, what you invest in will determine what weapon(s) you are going to use. If you are upgrading one-handed slash damage then you are not going to be wielding a scythe. Likewise, if you are upgrading two-handed melee damage you are not going to be wielding a sword and shield. Note: a larger team size allows for multiples of the same class, e.g., 6 player teams can utilize 2 rangers.

• Decide what weapon/play-style you are choosing. You can get away with your fists for at least the first 3 waves meaning you have a little bit of time before deciding/investing in perks.
  
• (Referring back to communication) If people know what "class" they are pursuing then choose one that will round out the team.

Divide and Conquer - typically every map will spawn enemies in multiple directions that will converge towards the noble. Players should hold ground far enough away from the noble to avoid unnecessary damage to him, but also be available should enemies find their way to him.

• If you have an even number of players, split in half and pick a side of the map to operate on. You can always change depending on the circumstances.
  
• Having a player as a go between sides is always helpful and can always protect the noble while others are bathing in blood.

Support One Another - this should go without saying, but yeah, help each other. If someone is getting battered try to draw some bots off of them. If someone needs to be revived and you have the opportunity to hold that 'E' button, do it.




Miscellaneous Do's - these other factors will certainly contribute to one's victory and develop one's skill as a player.

• Buying and selling weapons + knowing the prices: the higher priced weapons tend to have greater damage output and should be saved up for. Of course, saving up 3,000 gold takes a number of waves and surviving those waves with just one's fists is a feat indeed! Therefore, purchasing an inexpensive weapon, utilizing it, then selling it in order to purchase a better weapon is the most sound strategy.
  
• Know the map you're playing on. Understanding choke points, where doors and corners are, shortcuts and byways, etc. is essential to strategy and success. As you memorize a map you'll find yourself being able to fight backwards and lead the horrendous horde away from your precious noble.
  
  
  

• Don't run to the other side of the map. It really doesn't matter how good you are, a slight error or finding yourself surrounded can lead to your demise. If you're too far from others then a revive isn't likely to happen.
  
• Don't try to solo the entire wave. Just don't.
  
  
  
• Don't lead the ogres to the noble. Ogres can one-shot players and do a lot of damage to the noble. When a horde ends in defeat, an ogre is a likely culprit.
  
• Don't lead a wave of enemies into your teammates. This is sometimes accidental, but it can lead to the demise of your teammates while you run away unscathed.
  
  
  
• Don't invest in chests. They are usually a waste of money.
  
• Don't hoard weapons. Owning a falchion, a billhook, and a recurve bow at the same time is not going to help you in the long-term. The exceptions are the ranger and support classes who will need a melee weapon as a secondary to their main weapon/tool.
  
• Don't be a jerk. Just because you're miserable doesn't mean everyone else has to be, too.
