Introduction
The Soviet Army had developed plenty of tanks during the interwar period based on the designs received by the already tank producing nations such as the British Vickers 6-ton and the Renault FT-17 which evolved into the MS-1 and the T-26 respectively. The Soviet Tank force would grow and evolve into a formidable fighting force during the second world war with thousands being built.

Keep in mind the Tank Designer in HOI IV doesn't allow for a lot of variety in the modifications so many vehicles will be stuck with the same gun.

The design may say basic radio however you can put whatever radio you want on any of the tanks with the listed basic radio modification. Also the armour and engine upgrading is up to your own preference.
Light Tanks
T-27
produced: 2540
owned: 0
The T-27 starts the list of the light tanks being a light Tankette of the Soviets during the Interwar and by far one of the weakest vehicles used in the Soviets early war arsenal it was quickly phased out of service at the beginning of the great patriotic war.

Interwar Light Chassis
  • Bogie Suspension
  • Riveted Armour
  • Gasoline Engine
  • Heavy Machine Gun
  • Light Fixed Superstructure

T-26
produced: 10300
owned: 1300
The T-26 follows on from the list of the early light tanks of the Soviets, the T-26 was built in numbers mostly being used during the early stages of the war before being quickly replaced by better tanks. I have put all the tank variants of the T-26 as one however if you wanted to make the earlier two turret variant switch out the two man turret for a one man turret as well as adding an additional heavy machine gun turret alongside switching the main gun for a heavy machine gun with around 1177 of them, the flame variant replaces the small cannon with a flamethrower with 1503 of them being built.

  • Improved Small Cannon
  • Two Man Turret

BT Series
produced: BT-2-5: 2534 BT-7: 5556
owned: 1000 BT-5's
I decided to group all the BT series tanks together as they're quite similar to each other. to simplify things the BT-2 and BT-5 will be under the BT-5 variant whilst the BT-7 will have it's own slightly modified variant. Another variant the BT-7A as a support arty variant replacing the small cannon for a close support Gun 21 out of the planned 155 of them was made. unfortunately rocket variants cannot be made in vanilla HOI as the rocket launcher option is only for the main cannon and not the special modules in which it should be.

T-37, 38, 40
produced: T-37: 1200 T-38: 1340 T-40: 663
owned: 0
Introducing the first of a couple amphibious designs of Soviet vehicles the T-37 is the first of them armed with just a heavy machine gun and only a 40hp engine it's role became more of a scout vehicle during the war. The T-38 countinued on from the design not improving to much over the T-37. Lastly the T-40 was the last of the amphibious tanks built by the Soviets during the Great Patriotic War it improved a bit more over the previous two tanks but not by a lot other than to keep the role of an amphibious scout tank. The T-40 includes a 85hp engine which greatly improves it's performance over the 40hp engines of the T-37 and 38's whilst being a little more armoured but only by 4mm more.

T-70/80

The T-70 and T-80 are the final Soviet Light Tanks of the Great Patriotic War armed with a 45mm cannon however despite that it's 2 man crew resulted in the tank despite having huge numbers on it's side being a redundant tank for the Soviet Army. The T-80 follows the T-70 not changing much other than having a two man turret and roughly 120 of them being produced.

T-50
produced: 69
owned: 0
The T-50 is another more expensive light tank compared to the previous ones which resulted in it's limited production. The tank itself resembles a smaller T-34. It's main advantage however was not the armour as it had less armour than the T-70 tank but instead came from the fact it was a more mobile tank with over double the engine hp of the T-70 and a two man turret.

The T-28 is the first of the Soviets medium tanks this large tank was designed during the early 1930's when multi turret tanks was the direction multiple nations thought tanks should be going in. additional prototype and limited produced variants include the T-28E which increased the tanks armour by 20mm's in which 111 of the existing models was upgraded to, T-28-57 was experimental variant armed with an Basic High Velocity Cannon the same gun would be used on a experimental KV-1 and T-34. Lastly the T-28-85 is another prototype armed with an 85mm (Improved Medium Cannon) and the OT-28 being the flame variant.

T-34 1940-1942
produced: 1940: 400, 1941: 3111 1942: 31609
owned: 0
The T-34 being one of the most iconic tanks of the second world war comes in next roughly over 50000 of the various variants was built during the war. The 1940 T-34 starting the series of was equipped with a weaker 76mm L-11 which would be replaced quickly by the F-34 on the later T-34/76 models however there is not a lot of variety of tank guns in HOI IV's tank design to distinguish that. The T-34 1941 improves only in it's gun which cannot be distinguished with the HOI designer. The 1942 on the other hand improved the armour of the tank mostly on the weak spots of the vehicle, this model would be the last model of T-34/76's as even though there is a 1943 and 1944 models of the T-34/76 they're very similar to the T-34 1942 as they improve in the reliability of the vehicle and getting rid of more of the earlier T-34's issues. The T-34/57 mentioned during the T-28/57 variant was a prototype variant of T-34 armed with a 57mm (Basic High Velocity Cannon) only 10 had been built they proved capable tank killers however ineffective at destroying unarmoured targets due to the lack of HE the gun could fire.

The T-34/85 continued on the success of the T-34 equipped with a new turret to house the 85mm to add more firepower this tank would be the most common tank found on the eastern front later in the war replacing the less capable 76mm T-34's on the front line of the Eastern front. Flame variants for the T-34/76 and T-34/85's was also made being the OT-34 and OT-34-85

T-44
produced: 1823
owned: 0
The T-44 unlike the previous T-34 saw little combat during the war and for the most part remained hidden from the worlds view until the 1960's. These tanks improved in armour a lot from the the basic 45mm front hull of the T-34's being increased to 90mm frontally for the T-44. The tank retained the 85mm seen on the T-34/85's but still even though a better tank it was overshadowed by the earlier T-34 and the later T-54. 1823 of them had been produced between 1944-1947.

T-54/55
produced: 80000-100000

The T-54/55 gives us the early cold war tanks of the Soviet Union with 2 very similar tanks starting out in the 1940's and entering mass production within the early 1950's the tanks differences are not really distinguishable to a person who has looked at them for the first time but the biggest difference would be found on the roof of their turrets. This pair of tanks would become the most produced tanks of the world and be distributed to many many countries including China who created their own variants based on the T-54 being called the Type 59. Later in the 1950's a stabiliser would be equipped to T-54/55 models. (Gave it the Advanced High-Velocity Cannon for it's 100mm to show it's good penetration but less soft attack of the heavier 122mm's found on Soviet Heavy tanks.)

The KV-1 was the heaviest and most armoured tank on the eastern front during the beginning of the Great Patriotic War. the 1940 variant also known as KV-1 L-11 had 75mm of frontal armour whilst the F-34 variant went up to 100mm of frontal armour. The later KV-1 1942 also known as KV-1C was even heavier in armour being a maximum of 120mm thick but due to the engine was slower. The KV-1S brought a new turret whilst reducing the armour of the vehicle back to 75mm of the earlier KV-1's

IS-1/2
produced: IS-1: 207 IS-2: 3854
owned: 0
The IS-1 saw limited production as the 85mm found on it was inadequate for a heavy tank when the T-34 was armed with the same gun whilst being easier to produce. The IS-1 had a maximum of 120mm frontal armour whilst being more mobile than the previous KV series of tanks. The IS-2 is the IS-1 but with a much more powerful 122mm cannon, the majority of the IS-1's had been converted into IS-2's due to the much more powerful gun.

The IS-3 was at a point in time the most feared tank in the world however due to it's late appearance in 1945 it saw limited combat but still struck fear for the western powers. The turret of the IS-3 had a maximum of 250mm of armour whilst the hull was 110mm of sloped armour which made it very protected against a lot of the WW2 ammunition from long ranges.

could you add the design for the t-18( can't find it anywhere for historical)
recce puff 28 Apr, 2022 @ 7:56pm
The SU-76M should not have a high-velocity cannon as it used the ZiS-3 divisional field gun which had a relatively low-velocity and was also designed for use against soft targets; a basic medium cannon fits this role better.

The ZiS-3 had only slightly better muzzle velocity than the F-34 used by the early T-34.

It was also a different vehicle from the SU-76 (the confusion is understandable), of which only 560 were produced.

Thanks for fixing, some other errors:
KV series and SU-152 and ISU series did not have sloped armour
For the early IS-1 and IS-2 (IS-122) models it should be not sloped, and later improved model of 1944 should be sloped
BT also had two turret variants in the same format as T-26
ZSU-37 is 4 man turret (but I know it is not possible in game)
