6. Gameplay & Items
The gameplay of SPY Fox: Hold the Mustard is similar to that of Defender, a 1980 Bally Midway arcade game.

You control the SPY M.E.S.S. (Multiple Environment SPY Ship), and try to stop King Konglomerate from taking all of the ketchup. To do this, you have to shoot the robots trying to take the Tomatoes. Their behavior depends on the world, but for the most part they try to make it to the ground, snatch a Tomato and take it into space.

The SPY M.E.S.S. (Multiple Environment SPY Ship) can be controlled using either the mouse or the Keyboard. If you use the Mouse, the ship moves in the direction of the cursor, going faster when the cursor is farther away from it. The view scrolls to keep the M.E.S.S. in the center of the screen, and wraps around when you reach the left or right edge of the level. If you use the Keyboard, you can only move one direction at a time using the Arrow Keys. You can Fire your Beam Turret at the robots by Clicking or Pressing the TAB Key.

Every World has a boss at the end & you need to do is keep hitting their weak spot. If you wonder why the rate of fire slows down, it's because if you keep firing quickly, that happens. The higher up you go, gravity increases.

Be sure to keep an eye on your Fuel & Air Gauge to make sure you don't run out & be careful not to crash into any Enemies, doing so will either Damage your SPY M.E.S.S. (Multiple Environment SPY Ship) or cause it to Spin. If your SPY M.E.S.S. (Multiple Environment SPY Ship) is too Damaged to Continue or if you run out of Fuel or Air, you'll lose a Life.

Hold the Mustard starts with 3 Lives & you'll need all the Lives you can get.
You get an Extra Life if you find a 1-UP and if you lose all your lives, it's Game Over.
