What is this colored table mess?
Well, I love GearCity but I have one main question that hinders my game progress: which components could I reuse for different types of vehicle.

So for example, when I start at 1900 and build components for a Phaeton and want to build a Sedan later with these exact same components, what are the specification to look out for? And yes, the game shows you stars when you design you components but I can't easily compare it with other vehicles.

When you have the same trouble finding what to look out for when designing components for specific cars these screenshots could help you.

The colomns Performance, Drivability, Luxery, etc match with the recommended stars in the game.
Green is what you want to make sure is in your car
Yellow/greenish is important
Orangeis not so important
Red you could ignore

The columns First, Second and Third describe which specification to really look after.
Please note: I took some freedom in defining First, Second and Third advices. I used them to group/classify cars for component sharing.

Vehicles to share components with
The real reason I made this table was that I had difficulty reusing the same component. So I could reuse a set of components (frame, engine, gearbox) for different cars.

So my suggested vehicle classes are as follows:

Cargo
Pickup Truck
Van
Microvan
Compact Van
Minivan
Station Wagon
Shooting Brake
Coupe Utility
Full Sized Sedan
Crossover

Fuel
Subcompact
Microcar
Compact Car
Hatchback
Sedan

Luxery
Luxury Sedan
Landaulet
Town Car
Limousine
Full Sized Sedan (Cargo first)

Performance/Drivability
Supercar
Sports
Roadster (Drivability first)
Fastback
Coupe
Roadster 2+2 (Drivability first)
Coupe 2+2
Luxury Sedan (Luxery/Safety/Cargo first)
Touring (Drivability first)

The odd ones
I really could not fit these in any category, look them up yourself too.
Compact SUV (Dependability/Drivability/Power)
SUV (Power/Safety/Cargo)
Phaeton (Safety/Dependability/Fuel)

So this helped me to understand that I could reuse my Phaeton components for a Sedan as long as:
- I used a bigger frame for the Cargo
- and optimized the engine for Fuel consumption in the Sedan.

Other screenshot ordered by the First column:

Note that these are just classes/categories to use the same components for a 'class' of vehicles. So these are not marques, view Eric's YouTube tutorial for that:

limousines are generally fancier than a typical sedan, and are also driven by a chauffeur who drives the passenger(s) around, whereas sedans are a 'normal' car that is driven by the individual who is looking to travel.

Additionally limousines are often (though not always) set on a longer frame than a regular car, so there is more room for the passenger(s) sitting in the back.

You can think of a limousine as generally being a vehicle for the rich, whereas a sedan is for the general populous. One exception to this is when an individual or group of people rent a limousine for a special occasion such as a prom or wedding for example.

I'd have another question, maybe a translation issue; I thought a limousine is a sedan?? I'm confused...lol

LoL! No problem at all, thanks for your response though, much appreciated! :)

Hmm, seems I'm not quite awake yet as didn't realize what Dr. T. Was actually asking until i posted.... So previous post is answering a question not asked! *Eye roll here*

So sorry and have a great day! :steamhappy:

I apologize as well as only just got notified... Think steam has issue.

@Dr. T. Remote - to see in game what parts a vehicle utilizes you can go to your R&D department and select each vehicle under the modify tab. (It might also show parts if you select the vehicle under the view tab but can't remember off hand). This method is a little clunky but it can all be done in game.

Your R&D department is also where you offer your designs and parts up for other companies to purchase from you or license to build themselves.

The OP was specifically asking about contacts that they had won to produce parts for another company or government.

Sorry guys, I did not get notified by your comments!

@hungup_99 Thanks! I get those from the database of GearCity which is located at C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\GearCity\GearCity\SaveGames\{your save game}.db and access it with a program called SQLiteStudio.

Awesome. But where did you take these informations from? I always wondered where I can take a look what those cars need, didnt find anything....

@CoudyDOSH You may have figured this out, when you take a contract for a part, you need to manually assign a line to make that part, the game will not automatically utilize a line for you.

Each line can only be assigned to one job, if you have assigned a line to a part, (via assign contracts button in factory menu) it will not be able to be used to build vehicles, and vice versa.

In regards to how many parts a line can create, when you assign a line to a job, it will show you how many of that part that factory line can create per month. Multiple contracts for the same part can be fulfilled using one line. I believe that any production above and beyond the monthly requirement will simply finish the contract sooner. Generally I use smaller/older factories to fulfill part contracts. Not sure if this is the best way though

I have factory lines that make my cars and it says the max amount it can make a month but what about parts? If I take a contract to make engines for someone will my car production stop & switch to engines or is part production listed somewhere else?
