OldGamer's General Chest Information and Advice (2021)
By OldGamer
This is a Beginner's Guide to everything Chest related with links to other useful guides within.

I will try to keep this updated every year or so. You can also find this Guide in "OldGamer's Combination List" on the Steam forums of Idle Champions in their sub-forum "Combinations". You can also search the title on the internet and it will be the first result.

What are Combinations?
This is a general information section about Chests and Combinations.

Below are the descriptions of each chest in game and a few Guides about how to redeem them.

Combinations (or codenames as I often call them) are codes of 12 or 16 characters long given out by CNE.
They often give one Gold, Electrum or Event champion chest per code and it is recommended to keep checking back to either my list or the sub forum in general to pick them up.
Currently there are 20+ codes given out each week which correspond from the CNEgames and their partners liveshows.
Links to those live shows are given here.

Chests & Their Descriptions
These are all the chests concurrently in the game. I would advise new players just to open a chest whatever it is immediately, as this gives you more benefits than not at the start.
Gold Chests
Gold Chests contain 5 cards (Uncommon to Rare rarity).
They always contain two equipment cards (at least one Rare),
one bounty contract and have a chance of dropping an Epic equipment card.
Chance of a Rare drop in a Gold Chest is 100% and an Epic drop is at least 10%
There is a pity timer every 10 Gold chests to recieve an Epic.
They are only for your 12 core champions and Evergreen Champions.
Silver Chests
Silver Chests contain 3 cards (Common to Uncommon rarity).
They always contain one equipment and one gold card.
There is a chance of dropping “Rare” equipment cards, but they do not contain “Epic” equipment cards.
Chance of a Rare drop in a Silver Chest is approximately 3.2%
They are only for your 12 core champions and Evergreen Champions.
Electrum Chests
Each chest contains 5 items (one equipment item for a random unlocked champion, one gem card, one bounty contract, one blacksmith contract, and one potion) with rarities from Common to Rare.
They drop gear for all champions you currently own up to Blue.
The current meta or advice is to use Electrums after Silver Event Champion Chests are used to gain as much gear for them as possible.

Although Electrum Chests do NOT guarantee or prioritise "gaps" or blanks in your collection.
Electrum Odds
Gem Cards:
- Common - 10 gems [25%]
- Uncommon - 25 gems [60%]
- Rare - 100 gems [15%]
Items (Only Owned Champions):
- Common - [35%]
- Uncommon - [55%]
- Rare - [10%]
Potion:
- Guarantee at least uncommon
Blacksmith Contract:
- Guarantee at least uncommon
Bounty Contract:
- Common to Rare same odds.
Patron Chests
Patron Chests, are available from a Patron which can be unlocked during the course of gameplay each having their own unique requirements, all are explained here.

Each Gold Patron Chest contains five cards between uncommon and epic with gear for Champions who meet Patron's qualifications.

It is advised to buy all the unique shop items before you focus on buying patron chests. It is also better to buy patron chests if it’s a challenge rather than just normally. So if you are wanting to buy patron chests, do this on the Monday shop reset which will detail the new challenges for the week and only use them if your core/evergreen champions are fully epic!

However, by the time you get to the stage of wanting to buy Patron chests, you will already know when to buy them and the game (better at least). My advice would be to save your currency until then and only buying Timegate pieces with the Patron Currency until you need Patron Chests to Epic out your event champions.
Weekend Chests
Weekend Chests are unique weekly chests which contain gear for the four or five selected champions that CNE have chosen to Buff that weekend. They give one out per week, if you sign up to their Newsletter, of that given weekend chest. This code is a unique code for you only. It cannot be used multiple times, so giving it away or setting up multiple accounts will not let you get to that 4 pity timer. Of course, Weekend Buffs and their corresponding Unique Weekend Gold Chests are to promote purchasing a Gold item of a champion, Legendary Feat of a champion or any other purchasable paraphernalia CNE decide to market that weekend. You can get the item in the lowest tier pricing for your nation’s currency (eg 3.99£ for me). However, keep in mind for each Tenner (10$) you spend (that’s 7.99£ to me) you’ll also get a shiny gear card! But as always with real money purchases, it is up to you and what you can afford.
Supply Chests
These are unique chests, usually given out as a free code or as part of a Spectacular Event by CNE. These are chests that usually contain chosen items by a staff member and can range from Epic Potions to Large Blacksmith Contracts.
Modron Components Chest (MCC)
MCCs are chests that are dropped everytime you progress a level in any of the Modron Cores. After this they are available to purchase from the Patron Shops for 5,000 of their currency. Each MCC contains Five Cards of Components for your Modron Core Layout (aka “Pipe Game”).

You can watch a guide to this here and what it’s all about here.
