Gotham City Impostors tends to set the video settings too high.
The first thing to do is optimising the game to meet your PC's performance.
1. Go to HELP & OPTIONS -> Settings -> Video Settings ->
Depending on your system change those settings. I also reccommend to change advanced settings to get more performance.
2. If your game is still a bit choppy and lagging try to change the priority of the game to "high"
Press ctrl+shift+esc -> From Processes tab right click on Engine.exe -> From set Priority choose "high"
3. Close all other things that can take too much resources (unnessecary programs and also torrent clients and other downloads)

4. If your game is still lagging, find out if your PC can even run this game.

Here are the minimum requirements.

Players have noticed that this game will run much better if your PC had 4 cores. I am playing on a very old computer but I don't have much lags because I don't do anything else while playing this fine game.

Here are some tips for making the "servers" less laggy

As we know this game doesn't have servers. Instead a player in game is hosting the whole server for other players.
So this is a small list of things people can do to improve the gameplay in multiplayer.

1. Open the TCP/UDP ports from the router (and of course from windows firewall) that GCI uses so the information can flow better between all of the players.

2. Keep in mind that anyone can be the host. So keep all of the internet and computer powers open for GCI in case you might be the host.

3. Tip from kondex [PL]: Set your internet speed in Options to proper value, but (from my experience) best is to set it to lower than it is in reality (to prevent lag when hosting - especially when players are international)

I have set it to 1.5. It seems to be the best.


If only you have a good ping (three green bars) and others have a bad (one red bar or two orange bars) ping then you must change the connection settings lower for a better experience for all the players. That means you are the host and the connection between the players is bad.

TIP: DONT EVER SET THE CONNECTION SPEED TOO HIGH. That doesn't make the connection better.

Keep in mind that this game is not so popular as it could be.
The most played gamemode is TDM. It should be easy to find games in this gamemode.
