Description

In this hop we are pitted against an aggressor F-15 excellent AI pilot. His load-out includes 4 AIM-120Cs and 4 AIM-9Ms. At the start of the scenario we are approximately 40NM away from each other at 15,000 feet.

This was a challenge for me. The AIM-120 is greatly superior to my 4 AIM-7M Sparrows and allows the Eagle the ability to maneuver freely after it has gone 'pitbull' (meaning the AMRAAM is now tracking with its own sensor and independently targeting).

When I first pick up the F-15 I move over as far to the left as I can while maintaining a lock. Once we approach 20 NM distance I turn back in to fire a Sparrow shot. By then he has already fired an AMRAAM at me and forces me to run and dodge his incoming missile.

After the RWR goes quiet I turn back towards the direction of what I thought to be his last known location. As I approach the coast I get a RWR spike at the 3 o'clock position. I turn hard into the spike. I try hard to pick him up on the radar but cannot. At this point hes hard locked me again and I could spot him visually as well another incoming AIM-120 shot. This forces me to evade once more.

After a run out on the evasive I circle once back to point up the coast and spot him visually. I fire off a bad AIM-9 shot head on far too close. After the fly by he goes vertical and I turn hard and fast to come around then zoom up. We pass each other vertically as he comes down off the top of his loop.

I come down off my loop and pull hard to climb out to get the nose pointed as he races skyward once again. At this point our range is about 1NM and it is just a matter of getting the AIM-9 tone and launching. I send one off the rail and it connects after a very short time of flight. I switch to guns as I notice the distance close rapidly before realizing he has been fatally wounded and is going in.
