Getting Started
Rogue's Tale is designed to be played with a full size keyboard or any kind of keyboard and mouse (where mouse is used to replace the movement keys on the numpad). It has many keys for many actions and hopefully the following image makes it slightly easier to figure out how the keys are meant to be used.

Most actions require that the player presses one of the action keys and then selects either a target or direction for that action. There are two actions, however, that do not work like that and they are the left Ctrl and left Alt keys, or "Use" and "Loot" keys respectively.

The "Use" key is used with the movement keys, e.g. (Ctrl + Numpad6) uses something that is on the right side of the player such as a door, torch, creature or items. Note that it can be also be used to skip animations while resting (Ctrl + Numpad5) making it slightly faster to rest (or die) when there are other creatures nearby.

The "Loot" key is used to show the loot menu by holding it down and hide it by releasing it. While the loot menu is shown, movement keys move the cursor in it instead of the player and they can be used to select which item you want to loot.

If you don't like to use numpad, mouse can be used instead (or you can reassign the keys in the options menu). Left click at any direction around the player to move (left click the player to rest), right click to interact with adjacent tiles (right click the player to use stairs). Mouse can also be used to open and close the talent menu, loot menu and inventory by nudging the mouse wheel on the left side, center or right side of the window.

Thank you for this post. I just came across this game from Splattercat Gaming on YouTube and couldn't figure out why it was such a weird mix of mouse and keyboard.

Press F1 and you can use hot keys :D:

Nevermind the hot key binding. Thirty-two deaths into it, and I've found out. On to die again.

I actually found it helpful. It took me 6 deaths before I found the equipment menu. Maybe you shouldn't hate. Its not like you paid to access it. I keep this guide open and flip back and forth while I play. I'm sure it will be useless when I have played the game a few more days, but so far I'm glad its here.
Does anyone know how to set hot keys? I have learned a few talents, but I can only use them through the 'X' key? Are hot keys only for items or can you map talents to them?
