Description

A Variation on the usual Stack Interchange designed for very high traffic volumes. Here, the straight-through roads go below and above the diagonal directions. Tunnels are usually more expensive to build than bridges or overpasses which is why the tunnel is the shorter of the two straight routes. Using the 6-lane highways from the NetworkExtensions 2 mod here to give the road it's high capacity and once the roads split, all directions use 2-Lane highways to keep the capacity high for all direction choices.

This Cities:Skylines asset has been added to Steam Workshop for anyone to download and use.

How to get awesome traffic flow like this:

* A custom Interchange testing map, I started with this one: https://steamproxy.com/workshop/filedetails/?id=1113152270
* To create a lot of cars I added a number of small towns to the outside edge of the map, but you could also try the Heavy Outside Traffic mod: https://steamproxy.com/workshop/filedetails/?id=1596838226
* I break some of the roads in the middle of the small towns to force most inside-town traffic to leave the town
* I break the connections between towns to force all traffic through the center of the map. For this step I re-used my old 8-way intersection map: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=278l9-nkPwI
* I used a custom intersection to force all the traffic onto a single 6-lane highway without the need to switch lanes.
* Timed Traffic lights to allow the traffic to build up before approaching the intersection
* TMPE lane management, every single node must be lane managed to ensure no holdups caused by inappropriate lane switching.
* Long approach roads that allow the traffic on the approach highways to attain full speed, then gradually slow down the traffic as it approaches the intersection, this causes the line of traffic to compress as it approaches the intersection.
* Manually removing too-fast vehicles as well as some emergency vehicles which can ignore TMPE rules and jump lanes. With this volume of traffic, a single emergency vehicle changing lanes is enough to cause a traffic shockwave.

The traffic is flowing so well, proably because you use traffic manager to make them go strait and not change lanes, so it flows smoothly. but it actuly would'nt
