Great you find a solution, you can leave the raptor on sector patrol.

Ehh, a single overequipped raptor, filled up with a lot of fighters and bombers, cleared it out, as well as the next such attack shortly after. Ended up spending a few hours doing nothing but shooting up Xenon nonstop.

looks like you need 3 defence station(each filled with 100+ fighters on it) by the gates.
