Shooty Skies Boost Weapon Reviews

To begin with, listing the prices in this guide for purchasing all of the Boost Weapons from the Upgrade screen, with Coins as rentals or Golden Tickets for permanent use is irrelevant; just unlock them all so that Hidden Boxes earned every 7500 points will give only Coins instead of Weapon rentals.
Default Gun

The default weapon; thankfully, no matter what boost weapon you're equipped with, this tried-and-true machine gun will never be replaced.

Double Guns

Meh; just barely adds two bullets to the barrage. It's nothing special; you can barely even tell there's two extra bullets to the barrage. 😒

Wide Guns

Eh, it adds the Wide Gun that shoots bullets spread outward.

This IS a decent weapon but since it's usually the first weapon boost acquired from upgrade presents and can stack with more Wide Gun power-ups later on in gameplay, I don't see why you'd need to equip what's already a staple. But hey, if that's what you want, more power to ya.

Quad Guns

This one shoots 8 bullets at once; good for taking down single enemies quicker, especially stationary bosses that need to be taken down from the front. This might considerably be the most useful of the regular bullet gun category.

Homing Missiles

These are exactly like the regular homing missiles as the pilots' secondary default weapon in terms of speed and damage dealt; they're just automatically shot along with the bullet stream, that's all. This also means it's the weakest yet fastest homing weapons available but never acquired from power-up gifts.

Thing is though, while this weapon would be good for the mobile version, since in order to charge up missiles, I had to leave the pilot be and ergo a sitting duck, the same can't be said for the Steam version, as the controls are far more convenient.

So screw this one; besides, the missiles fired through the Homing Missiles weapon are just regular instead of the pilots' special themes. 🤨
Groovy Chainsaw

A chainsaw appears in front of pilots during the bullet stream to do plenty of damage to enemies...if you're at dangerously close range and will most likely get blasted from a bullet right in front of your face.

WHY WOULD YOU BRING A CHAINSAW TO AN ARIEAL GUN FIGHT?! 🤦🏻‍♂️ Never use this weapon as an equipped; besides, it's one of the power-ups acquired from presents anyway.

Seriously...just don't.
Badger Don't Care

Called "Honey Badger Don't Care", this weapon shoots a badger that hones in on a target to do a decent amount of damage.

For the weakest enemies, such as coin-holding robots, badgers can even go right through them with the chance of hitting another target afterwards.

The major con is that these marsupial missiles are the slowest in the game; just hope you'll get some more from upgrade presents, since weapons stack up. I can tell ya one thing - it'll be fun(ny) to have two badgers getting fired all over the place; three Badger Don't Cares and you've got a party goin' on.

Missile Tow Truck

Being the most expensive weapon in the upgrade screen, you'd think it would be the most useful, though it's anything but.

During bullet streams, small floating tow trucks are fired and will tug up to two enemies near to it in a near-futile attempt in getting them caught in the explosion the truck's self-destruct.

The tow trucks are probably the most dangerous to use, especially against enemies with spread projectiles...which is the majority in this game. You'd have to be pretty skillful in avoiding attacks with such a careless weapon.
Sky Rocket

These are fireworks that go forward but not straight forward. ...It's hard to describe the movement in words; just think of them like rocket fireworks in real life.

The pros are that their fired frequently and enemies hit will be knocked back with pretty firework explosions. 🎆

The primary con: they rarely hit anything; yeah, they're THAT inaccurate. The Sky Rocket would be better as an entertainment devise instead of a useful weapon. 🙄
Ball Challenge

This isn't a weapon, but a minigame during flight. The objective is to bounce the ball as many times as possible until you miss. The ball will then respawn and the game will start again at 0 while keeping track of your best score until you're blasted out of the sky.

Obviously, Ball Challenge wouldn't be included in this game without a purpose, which is for Achievements and unlockable secret characters. Afterwards, feel free to play with Ball Challenge whenever you want (if ever).

By the way, I'm guessing this is a reference to this game's primary pilot species being cats, who like to play around with balls (of string). And for those who've had it in their thoughts while reading this, of COURSE it's shaped like cube. It's a voxel game; EVERYTHING'S cubed. 🤨
Triple Cannon

Yar, this weapon fires three cannonballs straight forward at a moderate pace with ye billet stream.

While not as widespread as yer Wide Guns, these cannonballs be strong enough to keep going through destroyed enemies.

Tis a decent weapon to use indeed, matey. 🏴‍☠️
Zapulation Beam

Probably just a fancy way to say "ray gun" because that's exactly what it is. ...Well, a type of ray gun that is.

During bullet streams, this weapon will fire a pillar of energy in front of pilots, instantly destroying weak enemies. Toy robot hoards, a dozen charging freaks and piñata stampedes are no problem against this weapon.

Enemies with more stamina...as in everything else...are a bit harder to kill but the beam does go through them, ergo hits anything behind the baddies, too.

If you want a true death ray, you're playing the wrong game but this weapon is still decent enough to try for a few runs. 🔫
Bunny Bounce Blaster

Pathetic. All this weapon does in bullet streams is fire tiny, slow bouncing bunnies in random directions. They barely do any damage to enemies, if they even hit them.

Sure, enemies destroyed by these rabbit cause the little buggers to multiply and spread out but that's still rare occasions all the same.

Sorry but this weapon's firepower is small, slow and stinks. 🐇
Cruze Missile

Uhhh...yeah, this is a weird one; during bullet streams, these guys are fired periodically, moving slow then largely exploding.

Unfortunately, it's probably more for show, as Cruze may provide significant knockback to enemies but doesn't even destroy weak enemies like bullet bats in one hit.

Even so, I'm not fully sure about the potential of this weapon but if you're willing, go for it anyway.
Charming Wand

Last in the upgrade screen's lineup, Charming Wand is the second-most expensive weapon but by God, it's WORTH IT. During bullet streams, magic is fired and hones in on enemies. ✨

These projectiles outrun Badger Don't Care and does more damage than Homing Missile; for example they can easily defeat big screen TV enemies with just two hits alone! Best of all, enemies defeated by Charming Wand are turned into small woodland creatures that harmlessly hop off screen.

This truly is THE best weapon to equip. In fact, forget everything else I said in this guide and just use Charming Wand the rest of your life. 👍🏻
Other Weapons
There's other weapons in Shooty Skies that aren't available in the upgrade screen; only power-up presents.

  • Triple Guns: you can take a guess what they do.

  • Crossfire: fires a shot in all four directions of the pilot simultaneously; front, back, left and right. Useful enough against hoards.

  • Mega Guns: obviously powerful versions of the default gun that shoots stronger blue bullets; these bullets are also equipped to certain sidekicks like Robowing.

  • Mega Double Guns: need I say more?

  • Shootytech Shield: this is the only defensive upgrade in the game, only available in certain Month Missions for pilots and always for Bodyguard Missions for escorts (Bad News Bear or Golden Piggy) that protects them from one hit and regenerates a few seconds afterwards.

'Twas midnight on the ocean, Her children all were orphans,
Not a streetcar was in sight, Except one a tiny tot,
So I stepped into a cigar store Who had a home across the way
To ask them for a light. Above a vacant lot.

The man behind the counter As I gazed through the oaken door
Was a woman, old and gray, A whale went drifting by,
Who used to peddle doughnuts Its six legs hanging in the air,
On the road to Mandalay. So I kissed her goodbye.

Cruze Missle is a disadvantage if I've ever seen one, lost so many runs from that "power up"...

Nice guide tho
