Antwan yeah it's certainly harder to pull off against humans (as they're better at generating culture) but i'd recommend you look up a guide on it. feel free to pm me if you want any advice :)

Cool, thanks for the answer. I like to grow my cities big because more pops makes more science and gathers yields from more tiles. I also low to keep my happiness low during a golden age because golden age points do not build up during golden ages even if you have extra happiness. However, I think I will try using your strategy too and see how it works out. Because sometimes having more pops in one city is not nearly as good as having another city with better tiles.

Ghost2070 It's because most of that excess happiness was either a) reserved to support the settling of more potential cities or b) coming from luxuries that were being traded to me, and therefore making at least half of my happiness subject to change. I was trying to lock most of my cities at 3 because of the local happiness provided by having both a mosque and a pagoda in the cities. Some are at 4 either because there was a tile worth working or I could build a circus in the city, boosting the supported population limit to 5. Also, I have 12 cities in this screenshot, with most being able to grow in 5 turns if not for my intentional stagnation. If all of my cities grew by 1 population I'd already be down 12 happiness, sending me under the threshold of my imported luxuries. Good question tho, I'm still trying to get good at micromanaging my happiness.

Why are you locking growth in your cities when you have so much happiness and during a golden age?
