Mayan ended up losing most of his troops and retreating anyway cause they sucked. Actually Mayan had some troops better upgrades than Monghol, but tactically just ignorant. After mayan retreating, and I finished off Carthage, I finally finished off Monghol after 600+ turns of being locked down, he was probably relieved (I play Marathons). Although when I did go to war with Monghol, what I thought was entertaining.... he had a Settler he was holding on to for long time couldn't leave, and finally started running across my land. Unfortunately from him, I stollen Great Wall wonder from defeating Iroq, so settler only move 1 tile per turn, and my Culture was HUGE! 6 turns passed, he trying to pass my city. And I waited until he got to outside edge of my culture, before I finally snatched him with Lancer!
So all these mayan troops cross my lands and attack Monghol, who could only react with his Range units, until Mayan was on Monghol land. At the time, I wasn't at war with monghol, nor had any granted open borders. So Monghol couldn't enter my territory, which restricted all his land units from attacking any Mayan land... I thought it was funny as hell....
The AI just broke when it didn't have enough tiles for normal operation and it started to build wonders (no maintenance) and caravans (only way to get gold), because of gold shortage. It even managed to build Stonehenge before I reduced it's area to a single tile. Stonehenge can be seen in my lands, next to my norhern most citadel.
A Citadel next to a city will do 30% damage per turn to any miltary or civilian unit inside the city, including great persons or idle trade units. The AI built lots of caravans, which all died because of the citadel.
