This modified patch appeared on the Internet more than ten years ago, but unfortunately people have forgotten or have never seen it.
But I still remember that it took me a while to find the record and reproduce it, and brought this modification to the Steam version.
This time I published the modification method, anyone can reproduce it without saving the patch.

This is a note of the original data that I modified a few years ago. I sorted it out and published it. Modifying this hexadecimal code can lift the upper limit of the number of three pets.

Use a hexadecimal editor (such as Hxd) to open the main program of the game (Insaniquarium.exe and InsaniquariumDeluxe.exe) and search for the following:
00 00 3B 88 30 01 00 00
Replace with:
00 00 83 F9 18 90 90 90

This search result is unique and exists, I believe you can find...
After saving, start the game through Steam, you will find the effect.

I wish I could play the sequel... but just hope.

Alright it's been a bit since I last did this. IOf anyone is having issues (even though the guide tells you) change the hex value in both of the EXEs the guide mentions. Sometimes when you use the ctrl+f search function in NotePad++'s hex editor tool it will tell you "no results found". It's a lie, restart, change the search a tiny bit, eventually you'll find it. Don't be like me and just assume the address doesn't exist or was already changed......

For people that want the location in the file it is 000585a0 for me, but it might be different for other versions. I used notepad++ with a hex-editor plugin. it is all free to use.

For yy non steam Insaniquarium! Deluxe, I could not find the string, so I did partial searches, and then replacing to test. in the end what I should have searched for is 00 00 3b 88 00 01 00 00. it is working now for my game that I did not get from steam.

Modify the executable file instead of modifying the file in progress
Decimal search: 19957819
You can also search for locations

@Misto Taco Laddy! Well the game was updated on Jan 2nd this year and with no idea what they changed in that update it's unclear. Just try it out and see what happens?
